In this first episode of Video Game Scams, we're going to take a look back at the time a "famous" rapper tried taking over the gaming world by drop shipping illegal game consoles.
Though these consoles could be found for cheap on popular retailers, Soulja Boy had the nerve to resell them for triple their price and rename them to the SouljaGame Handheld and SouljaGame Console as if he made them himself. Of course though, almost nobody fell for it and instead piled on to make fun of the no-name rapper.

1: for a while if you went to Soulja boy’s website it would automatically direct you to Nintendo of America’s website.
2: when he claimed he bought and owned Atari, literally EVERYBODY laughed at his face and called him out for the bullshitter he is.
I had no idea it redirected you to Nintendo website as I hadn't seen any articles about it and I didn't find out about the fact that he claimed to own Atari until literally right after the video went live 😭😭😭😭😭😭

@@josh24441 That last one that he tried to sell, he did a collab with the company that put it out, and then tried to claim that he owned the company. The company quickly denied that.
The thing about the domain name is it hasn't been proven that Soulja boy ever owned it to begin with. I think someone bought the domain and just redirected it to Nintendo as a joke. Because when you go to the Internet archive and put in the url the very first version they have in the archive is a redirect to Nintendo. So if he did own it, either it was never archived or he never used it.
So fun fact, the way Soulja Boy promoted his music back in the day was by uploading his songs to limewire under the titles of much more popular songs. Even from the very beginning he was doing some shady shit.
I never liked him OR his songs to begin with so I guess I was ahead of the curve.

Like obviously this sounds like it's not gonna work, most people who pirate a shitty Kanye song, and I start hearing a shitty Soulja boy song instead, they're not gonna think "Damn, this joint pretty good, maybe I will buy his album"

HOWEVER, doing something weird like shadow dropping part of your album on a popular pirating platform sounds almost crazy enough to make sense, might even endear you as a character to a specific audience, like "look at me, I'm quirky and don't just operate within the lines the music industry wants me to"
IDK, just feels like supremely shitty execution was the biggest issue here, like just because Soulja boy decided to jump out of a plane over the Nevada Desert without a parachute doesn't mean nobody should sky dive under any circumstances.
Yeah and then people starting uploading uhhh very very criminal videos under the name of his music videos. Or you got lucky and did not get placed on a FBI instantly arrest list and it was shocksite/gore videos with screaming&loud nioses instead. Dear god downloading shit off limewire was a gamble. This happened when I was at a party and when the video played 2 dozen people were horrified and dude instantly deleted limewire. The chick who downloaded the music video was legit traumatized&confused&scared. Limewire was fucking nuts. Music companies were totally behind this shit.

1. Impossible because the games run and control like shit.
2. Leaderboards usually require original hardware for games.
3. With the games the console did have, not a single person knew what they were because it's all bootleg/fake NES games. Most of the promotional material for the console showed games like Smash Ultimate which couldn't even be emulated at the time.

That's somehow exponentially more retarded than the age of the console lmfao, since companies use labels that specify age limits like "suitable for all ages" or "from ages 3 and up". I've also seen "0-3🚫👶" They use specific wording and symbols so customers won't be confused. "Age: 3 years old" sounds like either the age of the console or that the console can only be played by a 3 year old.

I dont really watch youtube video essays (if you can count this as one), but this really intrigued me as i just thought of souljaboy being a popular early 2000s artist at best, i had no clue he did all of these. This is an entertaining video that is still informative on Soulja Boy's console. Good job and keep at it! The TH-cam algorithm is doing something right for recommending your video.
Edit: some people seem to be taking my comment negatively, while reading it back I can understand where that's coming from. However, I simply meant it as I wanted to check the video out and give it a try since lower views videos tend to have worse quality. That's an objective statement. I've stuck with channels I was subscribed to, so that means not watching videos that also have lots of views as they didn't seem interesting to me. I clicked on this video not out of some weird I'm better than you vibe but the thumbnail and title were interesting so I clicked on it. People always seem to take the negative approach first, which is sad. My comment is a positive one, and if you didn't view it that way, then reading my edit will give you more context. This is why I generally don't comment on videos...
