I've been backing Messier before he lost the Santa Anita Derby. I'm not jumping off from him. I do have Mo Donegal, Epicenter, Zandon, and Taiba covered. Put a W/P on Smile Happy and Crown Pride. They have great posts.

Muddy field goes to Taiba. Small hoofs, less strain on movement. With even only 2 races, he's proven as a speed merchant. I like his chances with mud & rain.
Just remember this, Smile Happy has finished ahead of Zandon and White Abarrio before and his odds could be in the 20s. Zandon might have fluked. He could bounce from that win. And the #5 is the most successful post.

Toss all the horses who ran in the Florida Derby and Arkansas Derby. I took a long hard look at Barber Road. I just don't see it. Same with Simplification who's only raced in Gulfstream like Charge It. White Abarrio's final 1/8th was awful.
Mo Donegal was my 3rd horse but once he got the #1 post, forget it. I had Known Agenda. The race is over for Mo D the first 10 seconds. He's not fast enough to prevent getting stuck at the rail. Happened to Lookin At Lucky too.
Churchill Downs changed the starting Gate a couple years ago. It's no longer in two pieces. There's one long gate now. Don't give up on him in the one post. He won his last race from the one post. Besides with the new configuration of the new gate at Churchill Downs the number one post actually has more room now it's about 8 ft further out from the rail than it used to be he's not going to get squished besides the number three horse is going to break and take all the bouncing and bouncing number one's going to have a fine trip the whole way ;don't regret it play Mo. I am playing Mo first second third and fourth in a superfecta. He's got less running to do on the rail post.
What makes you think he doesn't want to be on the rail? He's a closer. That's actually a great spot for him. He'll save ground. Irad is great at sneaking inside too. He's dangerous...

Without question , my choice is Mo Donegal 1-4 in a Superfecta. Churchill Downs changed the gate a few years ago. The starting Gate is now one long piece not two pieces. With the new configuration there's more room at the rail. I think the early speed horses Crown Pride and Epicenter will take a lot of the bruising and bumping for Mo Donegal. I look for more Donegal to run along the rail the entire way allow the speed horses to get out there and he will pick up the pieces late he had the fastest closing fractions of any horse in the prep races he even beat maximum securities time in closing fractions. That said, it is a nice field and one of the fillies not in the top 4 will likely hit the board.

Tawny port is 💩. Lexington was SLOW. Too many races too close together leading up to the biggest race of his life. TOSS!

Yeah Abarrio is getting a lot of love. I've read on HRN that he did the 9th furlong in 14.1. Whereas (for reference) Donegal did it in 11.9.
