Praise God! He's done (and continues to) work on my heart. I praise Him I can be used in this small way for His glory. Thank you for the encouragement! ❤❤❤
16:30 was for me!!! Thank you for the encouragement. God bless you and good to see you. Dont worry about the long videos, we love it! ❤️ you have helped me so much in my homeschooling. You are a blessing!
In the beginning of TGTB ELA curriculum, they mention they don’t focus on words that they basically can spell phonetically because they can read it. They focus on the harder words to spell. Then they mention something along the lines that it will come later and get better, as the child learns to read more. They explain it better 😊, but it’s in the front of the book.
Your authenticity is just so beautiful to me. Thank you for sharing. It's such a blessing to me. It heals my heart even hearing you say these seasons are okay, being partway through a curriculum is okay, screens in the needed moments are okay. Your faith and kind spirit are so inspirational. I hope you continue to feel better and better on your health journey, sending prayers for you! Thank you for sharing, i love your videos!❤❤
I’m so glad you are back! I just love your videos. You inspire me so much with your love of Christ and your sweet personality. I love how real you are about not having finished your curriculum for the year; every year I have finished, but this year we have not and we just need to be done. Thank you for reinforcing the idea in my mind that it is ok to just stop and pick up where we left off when we start again and that it’s not the end of the world not to “check off the box” (I’m trying to work on that). Many blessings. Praying for your health journey ❤
Yes! This is the first year we're only half way done with all our books. But it's good to keep reminding each other that it's ok. We will NOT ruin our kids! 😅
Welcome back! I’ve missed your videos so much! My kids are slightly younger than yours and you have helped me so much in my homeschooling mindset and journey!
I love every time a video pops up from you. No matter how long it’s been. I’m so sorry you had such a rough spell with your health. Glad you are doing better now. And Sarah Mackenzie would be my one and only reason to go to a Great Homeschool Convention too. I adore her!! ❤
All of my kids learned their times tables just by listening to the Musical Multiplication Songs over and over. Like we'd do Set A for a week every day, Set B for a week every day and so on with some brief quizzing of the prior sets. Now someone will say "What's 6x7?" And I'll say "rabbits" and they know it right off.
My kids love the musical multiplication too. At first I was worried because it didn’t seem to be working but I stuck with it and after a while they got it, it is great!!
We added in All About Reading & All About Spelling in addition to TGTB and it has helped tremendously!! AAR/AAS is strong in phonics and spelling and TGTB is great for grammar and poems / geography etc! We love pairing them together
@@PursuingPeace we do all the lessons ! AAR is usually around 50 lessons a level and AAS is around 25 so we only do those 1-2 times a week and then do TGTB 3-4x a week! Looping through them all
I'm so glad you're back! And happy that you were able to take some time to focus on your family. So important! But your presents on TH-cam is a blessing as well. 💜💖
Awww how precious. You’re older kiddos taking the time to do circle time and help with the younger ones. That’s such a blessing. So sweet I just picture them helping and just blesses my heart. ❤ You are doing so great! Look at all what you’ve accomplished this year with them! You are a blessing and so glad I stumbled upon your channel years ago.
We didn’t do skip counting as a kid, but I remember doing practice worksheets and flash cards and our teacher let us have an ice cream party when everyone had 1-12 mastered. Ice cream is a great motivator!
Hi Dina!! So glad to see some content from you. I'm sorry to hear that you've been sick. I'm happy that you are seeing doctors to figure out what is going on with your body. It was my first year Homeschooling. I have 2 girls. Kindergarten and Preschool. We will finish our school year late June.
Good job coming back to make a video, it was a great one! …. We use Mickey’s typing adventure.. I love that I can have it download on the computer and turn off the internet so they can’t venture off into videos and such. I also learned typing on a game as a kid and loved doing it that way.
Yes missed your videos....this year as been a hard one for us in just getting on a flow but thankfully we are back on track I was putting so much pressure on finishing like the regular schools I was sucking the fun out. We are in the process of us buying land, last year of renting and me signing with the Navy reserve after taking a long period out of the military switching from army to Navy. Now we are back to focus and just enjoying the new journey in our life. Not putting pressure just making sure we learn everything and have fun.
Oh how wonderful! Just having land and learning how to work it is teaching the kids SO many life skills they'll take with them. What a blessing! Sounds like you're headed in the right direction mama! ❤
That clip of your daughter reading and scribbling everyone that can't come to the party... 😂 got me laughing so much! These are the moments (little big moments) that I go back to, and I'm like ... this is why I homeschool... these are the moments I want to keep in my heart ❤Missed seeing your beautiful face here, Dina. For Early American History this year (for my second grader) we just read books/literature, watched an occasional video and took a lot of trips to historical sites and museums. We used a lot of the books recommended from numerous curriculum and found some of our own. Eventually you start to have favorite types of series/authors. It worked out well for us. My kids are really into collecting badges through the National Parks Junior Ranger program and there are many programs/sites that include history within their junior ranger activity books (some places will mail the books/badges to you if you aren't close). We are an east coast family so we just so happen to be relatively close to a lot of those historical places in early American history but I'd imagine you are closer to a lot of places in late American history.
You are in such a sweet season full of littles. Embrace it and enjoy it!!!!!! I have two graduated and four left at home but teen heavy and one elementary that I am totally loving teaching elementary. 🥰
Thanks for the reminder!!! I'm always saying that to Mama's with kids younger than mine but sometimes I forget to do the same with the season I'm in. ❤️

That is SO amazing that you guys have access to funds!!! Is homeschooling extremely regulated there? I wish we had funds but all our homeschooling lobbyists in our state are hard core against it. So homeschooling here is hard in that sense. The more money you have, the better education your child gets. We can’t afford curriculum so I’m thankful for all the free options out there!

10:50 !!! This! I have wasted so much TIME, MONEY, & STRESS just “changing it up”. You watch all the TH-cams, see something shiny & new, or you’ll mentally want to agree with something that’s “not working” for one family & will want to follow in their footsteps. I saw sooo many TGTB math “isn’t working for us” videos, that I started to believe the same thing, even tho not a darn thing was wrong with it on our end. I tried out not 1, but 3 different maths, I ended up going back to TGTB. My child was so happy when she saw the “pretty” book again. We as HSing parents want to do all the things, but unfortunately it’s just not feasible.
So wonderful to see your face again ❤️❤️. I know just how you feel when the baby starts to not be a baby. My littlest is going to be 6 at the end of July! I am struggling with the idea of him being Kinder/1st.
Yay! So glad to see you. I feel the same way about Beautiful feet. I love to learn history through books too! I second Typing club. It is free online (or cheap pay version) with rewards and even some very game like levels. Also, I love hymns too.
Something I am thinking about is doing 2 lessons Math every other day and 2 lessons English every other day. Then we do one of those so we have more energy to do the "fun stuff". My kids don't like transitions from one subject to another. It might help us. Hope you feel better soon.
You would love Sonlight for history. It’s much more books with a simplified schedule. It’s more pricey but includes Bible and literature. From levels D and up it has correlated readers (aside from read alouds you read altogether).
Also in AZ using ESA. Changes this year 👀 right before the school year. It has definitely slowed our orders down, but we're still thankful for the program. I also have 5 kids, but all within 8 years. The first born Sept 18, the last Sept 17 😂 they're 13, 12, 11, 7, and 5
Typing without Tears looks really good. We haven’t tried it because TGTB has been working for my boys but I did look into it and it looked good. My son was the same way with the skip counting. I got Math Facts that Stick Multiplication (by Kate Snow) and that really helped him. It’s super simple games going through the multiplication facts.
I tried that math with my oldest. The games were fun but nothing stuck. 😅 I'll check out typing without tears. I'm glad TGTB typing is working for y'all! ❤️
We started out with Abeka phonics and math and boy are they strong in phonics. We switched to the good and beautiful in kindergarten and I regretted it and did first grade half way. I will say this…. Kids learn from repetition. And Abeka does that. And it helps them to spell better too when they see it daily. Tgab just did not do enough review of concepts. Idk I’m seeing so many different options and they are all so different. I love the traditional method. It is so plain and clear and easy to teach. I don’t like how tgab has words all over the pages for the teacher to explain my kid didn’t like it she preferred for me to teach on a board because she’d loook at all that all over the page and got distracted and just wanted things plain and clear. Abeka she can read simple directions and do the work. It’s fun! I like the good and beautiful! But not my kid :(
Caution to all who struggle with spelling: it’s a major factor in reading success. Make it a priority if you can and try out a scientifically proven program like Logic of English, EBLI, Spelling Connections, spell to write and read, IEW, all about spelling etc. For reference, see the work of Richard Gentry (brain words), David Kilpatrick, Diane McGuinness, Denise Eide, Stanislas Deheane, Wiley Blevins, Louisa Moats etc. spelling is the litmus test that demonstrates if the child has orthographically mapped the words or not and offers insight into legitimate phonics and phonemic awareness gaps before they snowball
That is something TGTB does well. They're method of teaching spelling is similar to what you're saying. They're learning more about why things are spelled a certain way and what letters together make what sounds. So that's good I guess! I'm just used to repetition spelling. Thanks for clearing that up! ❤️
41:32 THIS! MWC is one that I was sooo looking forward to thriving with & I simply could not find my groove with it. The black & white was not helping lol
I've been having a hard time with energy, productiveness, anxiety, etc. I thought it was from having 5 kids, but I started working overnights too (in home care) and ended up in the hospital for a 118bpm heart rate. Found out i have hyperthyroidism 😅. Now I've stopped working, no caffeine 😭, gluten/dairy free (mostly)... So check your thyroid levels too
Changing things cause you’re sick of them…I feel that. I just finished MFW K with my youngest and last, and with each kid I was more and more over it. BUT I had to remind myself it’s new to them, and all of my kids have come through MFW K and 1st as excellent readers. Plus, I already own everything. But man, teaching the same thing over and over….ugh.
You are right that it is very important for a child to memorize the math facts and not just skip count. Skip counting is great to help with understanding of the concept, but the final result should be quick recall of the math facts. What has helped each of my kids are simply speed drills. That seemed so simple that I couldn't believe it would work, but so far I'm with my third child now in multiplication and every one of them has mastered their facts after using speed drills. I'm expecting baby number seven currently, so I'll have a few more kids to try out this theory on before I'm done homeschooling. 😉
Level 3 TGATB, we just started a few weeks ago and I was highly skeptical of the spelling ( still on the fence) BUT so far it seems to actually be working out really well for my daughter.
I bought the letter of the week and k5 curriculum for my kids, I never got to actually use it, my youngest is 7, but I still plan to use it, along with TGATB. We are with an umbrella school that doesn't accept kids until 6 years old. In 2020 when I planned to use it with my then 6 year old, my two oldest boys died, (8 and 10). So we pushed the formal school aside, now that boy is 10 and my youngest is 7, I paid for that system and at least one of my kids is going to use it. Lol.
I love your videos! We also use the good and the beautiful! Hope you feel better soon. I’ve been there with low iron and vitamin d. Thank you for recommending Read aloud revival and the no sweat nature study. I’m going to look into those! Do you get rar premium and read the recommended book? How does it work?
Do you feel Math With Confidence and TGTB teach concepts equally well? We've used MWC for 2 1/2 years, but this year stopped 2nd grade MWC on week 24. The approach just isn't the right fit for my daughter or myself. I've really struggled with leaving it because I think it's one of the best or the best programs. We've been trying other programs for a couple of months and she loves TGTB math. I've been doing a lot of research on the 2 programs, and most everyone seems to love MWC, but I see mixed reviews on TGTB and over and over see it described as "a mile wide and an inch deep." However, my daughter finally loves math and actually says it's fun now! She catches onto concepts quickly and prefers visual learning vs hands on (like you were describing about the base 10 blocks- she dreaded using them with MWC but loves them visually in the pictures in TGTB). She is going into 3rd grade, and I'm especially nervous about leaving MWC before learning their multiplication and division methods, but we just can't use it next year after trying for almost 3 years.
You do what works for your child. If she is struggling with MWC then switch. Even if MWC teaches in a better way, if your child doesn't grasp it because she learns differently, then it's not going to work for her. I've found that I can teach TGTB math better because I've done MWC. So maybe TGTB plus YOU is exactly what she needs. ;) Hope this helps. ❤
I don't think it's the official one. But if you're part of a community you can find it in CC Connected. Pinterest also has a few good books lists for each cycle. ❤️
Did you say you are in AZ? How much do they give each child for curriculum? Im curious. We have take advantage of that here in CA to homeschool, and we will be retiring in a few years and need another state option.
@@PursuingPeace That is so great! I live in Kansas and its a very hands off state. The requirements are almost non existent, however, so are the resources. Coming up on this election year I would love to see a change!
For Language arts you need the course book and the Booster Cards because they put stickers on the pages when they master it and the bonus mazes are all done.
@@tiffanyhoudesheldt7004 Hmmm.....That one I don't know. I've only ever done 2nd grade. You definitely need one for second grade but idk about the rest. Sorry!
Yes, you 100% need the parent guide for all Math With Confidence levels. They are not just answer keys, they are scripts for the entire lesson with all activities. I have used levels K-2, and have in depth videos on levels K and 1.@@tiffanyhoudesheldt7004

You're back, yay!!! 🎉 🥳 🎊🎉
😀❤
We love right now media thanks for the heads up on that option!😊
Aw your kids are getting so big! I’m glad you’re feeling better.
Thank you! ❤
Great video! Happy to know you're doing well🙂🙏
Thank you! ❤️
So wonderful to see your face again ❤️❤️. I know just how you feel when the baby starts to not be a baby. My littlest is going to be 6 at the end of July! I am struggling with the idea of him being Kinder/1st.
Oh wow! It's such a crazy, bitter sweet feeling. I still try to hold her like she was a baby. Lol! She's pretty petite so she thinks it's funny. :)
Yay! So glad to see you. I feel the same way about Beautiful feet. I love to learn history through books too! I second Typing club. It is free online (or cheap pay version) with rewards and even some very game like levels. Also, I love hymns too.
Oh cool! I'll have to check out Typing club. Thanks for the suggestion!❤
Just started the video and you dont age!
Aw! Thank you! You're so sweet! ❤️
Something I am thinking about is doing 2 lessons Math every other day and 2 lessons English every other day. Then we do one of those so we have more energy to do the "fun stuff". My kids don't like transitions from one subject to another. It might help us. Hope you feel better soon.
New edition of Level k was so much fun! ❤ my son loved it too and is reading so well ❤
Hi Gina! Yay! I'm glad it's working for y'all too! ❤
Thank you for sharing your real experience. We have the same issue with completing within an actual school year. #reallife
There are so many that don't complete the whole thing. I need to remind myself of that all the time. 😁❤️
I’ve missed you!!! I loved when you said, “there’s so many words!! I had to figure outwhich words to say on the page!” 😄 That’s so me!
I was between Math with confidence and Apologia math and I really went with apologia math and I like it!!!
LOL! I'm glad I'm not alone. ❤
I thought about Apologia math too.
I'm so glad you're back!
You would love Sonlight for history. It’s much more books with a simplified schedule. It’s more pricey but includes Bible and literature. From levels D and up it has correlated readers (aside from read alouds you read altogether).
Interesting.... I'll definitely look into it. Thanks for the suggestion! ❤️
Also in AZ using ESA. Changes this year 👀 right before the school year. It has definitely slowed our orders down, but we're still thankful for the program. I also have 5 kids, but all within 8 years. The first born Sept 18, the last Sept 17 😂 they're 13, 12, 11, 7, and 5
What does ESA stand for? I've never heard of it before.

I'll check out typing without tears. I'm glad TGTB typing is working for y'all! ❤️
So excited to see a new video from you!
Thank you! ❤
Good to see you! I miss the videos.
Thank you! I've missed chatting with everyone here.
But not my kid :(
Can’t wait to get our order from The Great and the Beautiful! I also signed our kiddo’s for every VBS. 😂
LOL! That's the way to do it!
So check your thyroid levels too
Instead of doing 1 video of all kids/grades can u do a video for each one and how u plan out the day?
How did you do them? Worksheets? Verbal? Thanks!
Oh congratulations on baby #7! What a blessing! How did you do the speed drills?? I think my kids would like that.
New subscriber! Az mama here too 😁
Level 3 TGATB, we just started a few weeks ago and I was highly skeptical of the spelling ( still on the fence) BUT so far it seems to actually be working out really well for my daughter.
Yay! ❤️ I'm glad it's working.
Lol.
Welcome back! 🎉
Thank you!❤
I love that you don’t edit your kids popping up in the background 😂 seeing their little expression like “oh, I wasn’t here”… hide 😆😆
Lol! Yeah they're pretty funny. 😂
Yes! I have Premium and we do the monthly Family Book Clubs. It's up to you how much of it you wanna do. We love it so much!
@@PursuingPeace Great, thank you!

😂 She's so hilarious! I love being her teacher and getting to hear all the crazy things she says. LOL!
@@PursuingPeace That's so cute😍
@@PursuingPeace Thank you so much for the encouragement ❤️!
If you have the official CC book list for cycle 2, I’d love to have it! I have cycle 1 and 3.
I don't think it's the official one. But if you're part of a community you can find it in CC Connected. Pinterest also has a few good books lists for each cycle. ❤️
"You're dead bad" 😂
😂❤😂 She cracks me up!
Did you say you are in AZ? How much do they give each child for curriculum? Im curious. We have take advantage of that here in CA to homeschool, and we will be retiring in a few years and need another state option.
It depends but it's somewhere around $7,000 a year. $5,000 I think for pre-k. It's plenty and SUCH a blessing!
Amazing!
We get $2800 per year here in California
Do you think GB is challenging enough for older kids and offers all they need to learn
I think it is. It teaches a good bit of grammar and has a heavy focus on writing. We've only done up to level 4 though.
Can you please share a link for the my body book? X
I believe it's in my Amazon shop. The link for the shop is in the description box. 😁
Does Arizona have strict guidelines for testing? I wanna know more about ESA's!
Not that I'm aware of. I'm very free to use the ESA funds as I see fit for educational purposes and it is such a blessing!
@@PursuingPeace That is so great! I live in Kansas and its a very hands off state. The requirements are almost non existent, however, so are the resources. Coming up on this election year I would love to see a change!
If buying the same level for multiple kids is all you need to buy after the set just the course book or?
For Language arts you need the course book and the Booster Cards because they put stickers on the pages when they master it and the bonus mazes are all done.
I’m sorry, another question. Do I really need a parent guide for math with confidence for k and 1st grade?
@@tiffanyhoudesheldt7004 Hmmm.....That one I don't know. I've only ever done 2nd grade. You definitely need one for second grade but idk about the rest. Sorry!
Yes, you 100% need the parent guide for all Math With Confidence levels. They are not just answer keys, they are scripts for the entire lesson with all activities. I have used levels K-2, and have in depth videos on levels K and 1.@@tiffanyhoudesheldt7004
Glad you're back!
