    Hey, just discovered your channel! Really appreciate your no nonsense approach in this one, helped me a lot. I find a lot of photography tip channels go so far with the edits that it’s just not practical when faced with 1000+ sports shots from one event!
    Anyway, apologies if you made this video already, but I’d love any tips for combat sport, like boxing, indoor with a dimly lit ring. Trying to edit them now! Thanks in advance

    Great tips .Im very amateur and I just tried to shoot a sports event, Karate with an 80D and twin lens kit. Took about a 1500 and got about 10 decent photos, and about 100 usefull for the folks who were in it. Got one of boxing those spit leaving the mouth photos but the guy was facing away. I also learned sometimes sports mode AF will focus on a busy backround. I dont know if there is a way to bracket focus within two limits. I also didnt notice I was shooting a little too close and body parts are cutoff sometimes. Its all learning.

    • @RobSambles
      @RobSambles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey John, I tried to do these with a quick edit like you would pitchside, I didn't include lots of details that you would want to if you're working on an image a bit more. Generally speaking I tried to look at stuff you could do with an image and have it sent within 3 mins of taking the shot. My monitor is calibrated yes.

  • @odarrien
    @odarrien ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for this. Are there any go-to aspect ratios or do you just crop to suit the ideal composition for the shot?
    I see you are not afraid to crop in considerably, but is there a limit you dont go beyond, for instance no smaller than an 8 megapixel crop?

    Hello Sir. I saw some of your videos today and I'm doing my first steps in sports photography. I really like your work and the fact that you get the chance to work in the premier league speaks for itself. I hit the subscribe button in no time. I saw another video that you shoot with the Canon 1DX which is an 18MP camera. I see now that you crop quite a lot. Do you notice any significant loss in image quality when cropping that much with an 18MP sensor?

    Hey Bob, thanks for the video. I photograph dog sports on the side and have a website for my wildlife photography, but it doesn’t give me a great platform to sell large amounts of the sports photos to clients. Can you tell me the best and hopefully free ways I can load over 200 or so photos online so that clients can choose from them? I don’t need them to purchase them from the website, as I prefer to just email them finalized digital prints and send them an invoice. Can you tell me the best way I can load them into a giant client folder they can choose from? I hope this makes sense. I’m using squarespace at this time, but I’m finding it maddingly difficult to load them all up on there for easy client access. Any thoughts? Thanks.

      Hi Gary. My website is with squarespace which I actually find easy to use. Have you tried speaking to their customer support line to help you work it out? Free ones are Facebook, flicker perhaps?

    Hi Rob, thanks for the content as always. I just wondered if certain media prefer sports photos to be submitted at specific aspect ratios? I would appear not as you are freely cropping these images. I had been trying to stick to 2/3 or 4/3 for consistency but maybe you see this an unnecessary.

    • @RobSambles
      @RobSambles  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my experience some will want you to maintain 4:3 and some not too worried

    Great video.
    I have two questions.
    1. I recently shot a non league level football match at night with poor lighting. This caused my ISO settings to be quite high and left many of my shots with a lot of noise/graining. Is there a way i can edit the picture to reduce the noise in the photos?
    2. Do you have any advice for what to do settings wise when shooting sport such as football matches at night where the lighting isn't so great to prevent a lot of noise in the image?
    Many thanks.

    • @cnunez200290
      @cnunez200290 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @SC85Photography... I also shoot a lot of High School football and High School soccer games and as you know the lighting is very bad at those fields, especially towards the end of the (end zones) field. Even though I shoot the games with 2.8 aperture lenses I get some noise. There is a great program that will almost eliminate all the noise from you photos. It's called Topaz DeNoise AI (www.topazlabs.com/denoise-ai). I was skeptical at first when a friend told me about it but I downloaded the free trial version of it and I was amazed of how well it worked. Look up some videos of this program on TH-cam. Hopefully that will work for you. 📷

    I Rob. I have a question. how much of the image can I crop to social media without losing photo quality? I have a 24 megapixel camera. Sometimes i crop 50% of the image but i dont know if i can crop more without losing quality.

    • @RobSambles
      @RobSambles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For most social networks you could crop way more considering most of them only display photos 1080p wide. I made a video on it - take a look back on my channel

    Also, you didn't use the colour channels when editing the black and white? I thought that word have been the first thing to do with any BW photo?

    • @RobSambles
      @RobSambles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's just a very simple b+w conversion for the photo, I'd actually very rarely use black and white for live sports images (like 1 in 1000 maybe). For a 'proper' b+w conversion you would want to play with the colour channels 100%

    Don't know how this works with .jpgs, but with those guys in the high viz vests, you can desaturate the vests and bring down the highlights in the vests. Decrease the contrast there and reduce calrity and sharpness, what works. With this particular composition, you can even do this with a graduated filter.
