Thanks. It was time consuming and I noticed that the edges were not as smooth as I would have liked. I think of I were to do it again I would but the discs. Painting all of these and getting a nice shine on them was very time consuming.
Oh man, this is great! I am making a game set for my buddy and was stumped on how to make the discs. This is super helpful! Thanks for making the video!
Honestly I don't remember now. I probably got it at ACE cause when I walk in they say hi and call me by name. I sometimes change my shirt when I go in multiple times a day so they don't recognize me again.
We would like the striking band to be rounded so when the buttons strike each other, or strike a post, they have a lively bounce. If the striking band is flat, they won't bounce. This is also applicable to curling stones too. But this is a great job.
Perfect. I have made several boards but never attempted discs. This will work great. What did you do to sand and finish them after they were rounded off? Thanks for the video.
I honetsly don't remember, I am guessin it was a 1/8 inch roundover bit. The height I just set up once I had cut all the discs so it just rounded the edge a little.
I can't remember what size round over bit, but I know I say it in the video so i would remember years later. For the height I just used a store bought disc and measured it to match.
huh, I guess I haven't seen official discs then. I have bought some that I really like from some guy up in canada, but they are not concave or convex though. Interesting.
I don't. I just had another comment saying something similar. I have bought discs from some guy in Canada, they are great discs, but they are not convex. That would be too complex for me.
Lets assume someone wanted to make them slightly convex like Sjoelbak disks. How would one go about doing that ? Also assume you need at least 30 disks for Sjoelbak.
It would be a lot easier to put a length of dowel in a lathe and mill the rounded edges first, then buck off the discs on a band saw after they have been grooved.
That jig setup with the drill is clever as hell.
Whats the saying, something like the mother of invention is keeping your fingers. Something like that.
Fantastic job. That’s a very smart and creative way to round the disc edges.

OH MY GOD! How many times did i risk my fingers with rounding off small pieces!! DEFINETLY going to replicate this setup, Thanks!!!
Glad it helped. Keep those fingers safe.

Im glad it was helpful
What kind of sticky putty did you use? great idea to make the discs, thanks for sharing

This was very helpful. Thanks for the brilliant idea!
Glad it was helpful!
Brilliant idea mate thank you. I have some made and I’ve been contemplating how to round the edges haha.
You just have to be careful to not take off a finger. They aren't worth a finger

This is going to solve my issue! What size round-over bit are you using, and what's the height you are setting?

Interesting technique! I didn't know if you were going to use a lathe or what.
Super helpful and really safe. Thanks!
I thought that "official" discs were not flat on the top and bottom, one face being slightly concave and the other being slightly convex?
huh, I guess I haven't seen official discs then. I have bought some that I really like from some guy up in canada, but they are not concave or convex though. Interesting.
In Canada we have a manufacturer who produces discs with a nipple. This isn't actually proper. A good disc will be totally flat on both sides.
@@TedFuller-Crokinole-Canada Thank you for that info. I think I have some of your disc and Love them.
You are welcome!@@brothersheldonnixon4489
Loved the video. I am making my first Crokinole board and I wanted to know if you could link to some of videos that you found helpful.
Brilliant
My Genius!
So... You don't make them convex?
I don't. I just had another comment saying something similar. I have bought discs from some guy in Canada, they are great discs, but they are not convex. That would be too complex for me.
@@montgomerypw official crokinole discs are perfectly flat.

@@phaedruscj3330 Oh great...Now I have to look up what Sjoelbak is and probably try to make it. Lol. Thanks for the suggestion

Sure.. If you already have a lathe.
@@vjsoeifi and a band saw
And seeings how I don't have either lathe or bandsaw....I did it this way. I would love a lathe. Maybe that will be my next purchase.
Need a project? Lol 😹 Bernie has lots of tools he will never use again. ???
