Foden put the best chance of the entire game on a plate for Harry Kane on the edge of the 6 yard box. If Kane finishes that then suddenly Foden had a great performance even though he’s never given a chance in his actual position.
Foden hasn’t been our worst player though. You could drop him but he has been decent. Saka has been terrible after playing a good first half vs Serbia.
Thumbnail is spot on. Can’t think of a single game for England where I’d say Foden was the difference for us

You can't say 'Difference' is only when games are won by one goal, for instance Grealish was the difference when England beat Germany 2-0 in the last euros and he didn't even score one. Fodens stats in the Iceland game were twice as good as anyone in the attacking 3rd.
Foden is exceptional at club level but there he has the experience of De Bruyne, Rodrigo, Silva around him. At England he has to take more responsibility and initiative and at present he's lacking in both

Look at Mainoo. Some of his passing was atrocious. Just lumping it forward several times into their keeper. Foden played a good ball in which Kane should have scored.
True, move Foden into 10 because he's better there than Bellingham and have the balls to move Bellingham deeper or drop him. Foden scapegoat is crazy, he's way better in the number 10 pockets than Jude has been so far. Lowest level analysis says 'but Jude scored in the 95th minute imagine if we took him off?'. Well, imagine you play someone more effective in the role for 90 minutes, same with the left wing and right wing positions. Maybe you'd have scored goals in the game already and not be relying on a lucky bit of magic that you never deserved in the last minute.
The team he should've tried from the get go is bellingham next to rice, foden 10, gordon left, saka right. When Saka gets bullied and muscled off every ball like he has done all tournament, give Palmer and Bowen a chance from kick-off, not 70 minutes plus. Both of those players looked more effective than Saka has for the limited time they've been on the pitch. We act like Saka is our 12 year old son for some reason, hangover from the protection he got after missing that penalty a few years ago. He is not beyond criticism or being dropped but everyones terrified of saying so.
Wokegate will never drop Saka. And hopefully I don’t have to spell out the reason why.
@@Cityzen567you having a laugh Foden has been offside for two goals that saka has been involved in both. He’s always performed better for England and he’s there on merit. Your guy isn’t the same outside of peps system and the whole country can see it
totally agree. Bellingham has been poor and one goal shouldn't blind people to that fact. Foden has at least been trying to make things happen but we're playing him in the wrong position.

Even if he starts Saka its nice to be able to freshen it up with Palmer is the big thing. Foden could do the exact same thing for bellingham instead of starting both. Also if you play gordon and he doesnt do to well then ok bring Foden on if you really think maybe him fresh vs tired players will give him that extra edge.
Foden has played the Man City way all his life. He isn't a player who can easily adapt to different ways of playing. Seems a bit thick, lacking footballing intelligence

Southgate should be more afraid of the fact that he's got some world class players and he's playing them in a way which stifles all their collective creativity. The only formation to play those players in and reduce their effectivity is the one he's using. He's not playing to kanes strengths, utilising bellinghams strength, or fodens ability to feet. The reason these players play well for their clubs is because they have managers with the ability to utilise their players to get the most from them. They look stifled and unsure what to do at times and that can only be to being in unfamiliar positions with individuals strengths working against each other rather than in tandem. Individual brilliance has seen us through. Tactics and selections have held us back.
I rate a foden but it’s hard to argue with my fellow Boro fan here.

Stans been smart recently. Gareth cud be Sir Alf 2.0 if he makes subs earlier & also starts with fresher legs v/s the Swiss. Keep praying 4 a 3 🦁 cup win to aid Gareth to make good decisions like Sir Alf & 4 pur boys to get fitter & pass quicker. I think GS will learn from this narrow win & improve.
He now knows that Foden & Trippier must be dropped as starters & used as impact subs.
We gotta start with Trent & Saka as wingbacks. Palmer cud be the new Sir G.Hurst & Gordon cud be the new M.Peters & Trent cud make passes to our attackers like Bobby Moore did to Hurst in the final.
Try asking prime Iniesta to play long ball football.
Try feeding prime Messi with long ball towards his head, and blame him if he can’t out muscle his opponent.
Of course they would not perform well.

And also, when Pep first arrived to England, their own very fans questioned Pep on why are their players keep passing back to their keeper.

@BruckyG95 international football is a complete different ball game my friend. And look at his heat map in all the games. Hes spent more time in the centre rather then the wing. He just gets out powered, doesnt have the pace and zero link up play. Hes just ball greedy

I remember in ‘06 the Italians having a dilemma between Del Piero and Totti. Managers benched went with Totti and didn’t try to fit Del Piero in elsewhere!
Foden is used to playing under a manager who knows what they are doing , plus he has a role in a team that requires skill to accommodate. Same with other players.
If you are going to pick a star player, playing him in his best position might help rather than shoving him out on the left wing with a right footed full back who won't run on and give him a option to pass and move with...

System ManCity player who also doesn't have enough strength to carry the ball up against direct body pressure. Does well in tippy-tappy and slalom dribbles, but not among England starters and more disjointed interplay. He's also nowhere near the crosser that DeBruyne, Trent AA. and Reece J. are.

Foden is a good Premiership player, not exceptional in any way, he is elevated way beyond his ability, by having a great Manager and system at Man City that is sadly
