yeah... we had a couple of drum instructors from DCI when i was in high school... and our heads were always tight. we went through so many that my senior year we ordered in bulk. Blue devs have always been so sweet!!!
I came from a small school in a small part of the rural world, and our drumlines were always small and under-talented. I remember the first year we weeded out the non-hackers and trained everyone up, we were the only line that did runs at competition and took home best in class. It was fantastic. A good bass line is essential.
I just got finished marching bass, I moved to snare, but I loved bass. It is truly amazing when your bass line nails runs, they will soud amazing. Good luck dude!
bassline is 100% worth it!!!!! it's taught me to be patient and to work my ass off!...if your in a really good drumline like ours you must practice all the time or you will get behind. And if you have a group of great players that can count and sub divide their ass's off then it makes for the coolest thing ever and people will love to watch!!!
0:43, I think if this was split up to 2 bass drums, some in the audience may realized what they saw and I heard it may have been the first public performance of hand to hand splits, you can tell bass 3/4 were awaiting a reaction and got nothing. What a feat, circa 2002 for crying out loud
@SpDrumz seriously, bass line is usually the one that gets little to no love :( finally glad to see them showing viewers what we're all about :3 bassline ftw :P
In fact...put "drum corps bass line" in the TH-cam search bar and click on the link titled "2011 Drum Corps International Walnut Show - Santa Clara Vanguard Bass Line, Pt. 5 " Note the tempo, and the fact that the feet are moving....and listen to what they're playing...VERY complicated and intricate...and it is part of the performance show on the field.
i think they get the different more muffled sound because of the type of base drum heads they use. they're thicker than the more commonly used ones in any marching band
I had this on my myspace profile for some time(no joke). This was definitely a great bass line, even though corps and their show were no match for the Cavies in '02. I've always been curious as to what causes the slight skip at 3:25. If anyone can explain, please explain. Other than that, good stuff.

SWEET!!!!!!!! I love, really love low instruments, simply love bass drums... exquisite video...
Classic Blue Devil Bassline, runs all over with huge Unison finishes. God I wish I were that good.
gah, if only every band had a bassline like this one. tight, and trained. the devils are certainly elite.

Yay first bassists!
Yeah, I'm the first bass in my drumline.
The Blue Devils are amazing.
It was actually two nights before. We had two midnight rehearsals and then a couple runs the morning of I&E. Good times...

It's always gotta start slow and speed up.
@SpDrumz seriously, bass line is usually the one that gets little to no love :( finally glad to see them showing viewers what we're all about :3
bassline ftw :P
Everything was so clean!
i spent 30 min looking for this, finally fucking found it. haven heard this in 4 years. so happy.
Sick, man, sick. It sounds like one person playing some massive tenors . . . with about eight extra arms. I loves me some bass ensemble.
i love bass lines and this one was sweet

Gives double bass a whole new meaning!
cuz theyre all in amazement!
This makes me happy.
I like that they put some of their show book in the solo.
Why is it that there's never any good bass line videos in good quality. This shits amazing regardless.
that is some fucking amazing shit! I'd love to be able to play like that!
I dig on bass three, but that five has got some mad chops!
Dam 1st bass is my baby and this is what i would love to fricken be a part of. a awesome bass line
they are the best for ever
Love the ending.. so powerful, it gives me goosebumps :)
that 1st bass is a beast
Chamber Music, thank you. It was a fun summer.
The run at 3:27 made the whole clip for me
The amazing part is that this was all put together in 3 days.
that takes a lot of practice. mad props
this was amazing lol, i just wish they had added a filler like the blue knights when they switched sticks
This is absolutely unreal
fo sho these guys are so tight!
one word explians it all....WOW!!
bass 5 is where the party is at man.
This needs to be an olympic sport

I just came
the blue devils are my fave
sickest bassline ever!!!! 1sT BASS!!!!!!!!! all the way
tenors are where its at, i gotta give basses some respect when they get nice runs and grooves like this though
It's because they're stunned speechless.
i think they get the different more muffled sound because of the type of base drum heads they use. they're thicker than the more commonly used ones in any marching band
kick ass runs!
imagine being in that audience and having to keep yourself from exploding.
Bass 5's got chops!
The visual demand......damn.
Bass 2 , Ryan, is my bass tech. Haha
daaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmnnnn!!!
nice. I'm bass 4 in my drumline. we do a song like this with basses on the ground, but it's no where near as complex.
perfectly said.....
SIGN ME UP!
I play bass 3 too :D
Yeah, Odello is amazing. He has the hardest part and never drops a note.

these guys fucking pwn
wish my bassline was that good
i love to do bass line, but the bass line at my school wasnt great. i wish we were good, other wise i wouldve stayed. i do tenors now
That's amazing. But I'd be more impressed if they were holding the bass drums and moving with them, while playing, and staying in step.
sick nasty
that's technique or also you can do it with odd strokes,an cordination practicing a drag
I play bass 1 i was 2 as a freshman but now im 1
i know the 4th bass player. he taught at my hs drumline once. lol
its shit like this that keeps me drumming
@gfaithw kinda like a slow role with one hand, basically...
@gfaithw not really, 32nds at 60 beats a minute is only 8 hits a second.
@NicoleWrite They wouldn't be doing this sort of thing on a marching band field, it's an ensemble.
thats crazy how are there that many people?
HEY GUYS.. The tied and untied roll in snaredrum is played alike?
Not the crossover stuff...but the intricate playing?? Sure...if the music required it (especially in an exposed feature)
haha lol i wanted to know what 偶像 meant so i accually got it translated lol...its idol by the way people
i hear a bass lick from 1997
i just made the d line at my school and i play bass now but isnt my 1st choice at all..
is bassline worth it?
google search bass ensemble and you get tons of good videos
have you been eating that yogurt again?
Just curious, what place did this ensemble get, that was great!
if you kinda cross your eyes while watching the sticks come out of the screen...
does anyone else besides me play 1?
if u had beast ass subwoofers you could get good quality.
Sorry double bass pedal players, you can't compete with this.
If it is, I'm not laughing....
@master22drumfool sounds more like a "phew"
which bd corp is this? bda or bde?
phantom regiment in 2001 was better. but blue devils have always had a really good drumline overall
