Yes, I would agree with that - I have the Mosky tone cranked to 3/4 where I usually run my Rats flat. If extra high end is what you're after maybe it's not for you. That said, the Rat 2, the Mini Rat and the Ratsbaine all have more high end than my original 80s Rat. @@n0cturnalsurfer
I've heard that Filter control problem quite a few times now. On the Rat, the high end rolls off with CW rotation - nothing wrong with that. And the Mosky rolls off high with CCW rotation - nothing wrong there either. I don't have the Mosky, but I am willing to bet that the A100K pot, has been installed, when it should be a C100K (the taper being reversed). I look at the tiny tweaks on the Mosky Filter, nearly fully dimed, and I think the rest of the sweep will make almost no difference to the tone. As long as you choose the right logarithmic taper and hook it up correctly, it will be 'usable'. I'll go out on a limb and say the right hand pedal isn't made correctly. If anyone has one to confirm, please correct me. For confirmation, the pot will be A100K, and pins 1 and 2 will be tied together (buzz through with the knob at 12 o'clock to confirm).
I have a Tyler PT-14 as well. Was excited to hear this demo using the same amp I would. Would have been nice to hear it in Turbo mode for more than a split second.
Listening to the two, I've come to the conclusion that... my "vintage" turbo rat is broken. Both of these sound way better. For $30 next day delivery, I may give the Mosky Black Rat a shot. I have their Klon Clone (silver) and it's an always on pedal on my "rockabilly rig".
For me, the Rat is such an affordable pedal from the get go that I would just (and did) start with it. That is if you want a pure Rat tone and nothing else, there are a lot of people that want a Rat with a slightly different sound, and that is where the Black Rat fits in. IMO, 1 for 1 copies of a pedal, like a TS and the TO800, need to offer either a much larger cost savings or take the place of something that you just can't buy without emptying your pockets. Like buying a Tumnus versus buying a Centaur. And yes, great demo! You should have a 100x more subs!
I have the Black Teeth with vintage turbo and dirty rats. Some have tone control instead of a filter but they sound similar. A fantastic rat is the Knise Crunch with tone instead of filter. Brilliant sounding Rat.
The Black Rat does sound good. But it’s not quite there. It lacks some high end clarity to my ear. If I had an EQ, I could make up for the lack of those frequencies, but I don’t have one. The Proco is only $70. My local GC has one in stock. I’m really tempted. But I also have an $11 credit with Amazon, and can grab the Mosky for $20 with it. Decisions.
Might be too late, but I prefer the Black Rat. The Little Bear has some fizzyness I don't like, but I think it can be mostly dialed out. They are honestly both good pedals in the end, and I like the dirty rat mode on the Little Bear.
I own several rats including a vintage 1983-4. The Mosky comes the closest and lives on my studio board. It's ridiculously good.

Where I live, the Black Rat is about a quarter of the cost. Man, the little bugger sounds good. I just hope the build is ok.
