I love to climb the four animal mountains..but never know these religional events...it looks like combine the Tao and aboriginal religion, in front of the chinese temple but dance the aboriginal dance...feel weird...but really impressive.........Thanks for sharing!

You will only see Taoist and Buddhist able to mold other religions together. Say example, in Singapore and Malaysia.. You will get to see Taoist Temples pray to Datok-Kong and also pray to Hindu Gods.. In Indonesia, You will get to see Chinese Temples get the indo tribes to join in for prayers and get into trance.

Hi wcwturtle ... thanks for viewing my videos and taking time to comment.
Yes, the Four Animal Mountains ... there are perhaps 30 temples there if you ride around looking for them, maybe more. I haven't done much hiking except to elephant Mountain as I used to live in Purple Cloud street (Zi Yun Jie) ... The area is well worth explaoring.
Just back from Yen Shui Feng Pao , will add videos soon ...
    Thanks again

Nice video, will there be another event in 2012? I really want to attend if there is? Nice to see your work in this area, more research is need in this area. Taiwan was not flushed of it traditional spiritual healing arts. Are you still living in Taiwan?

    1) Hi Phil. Sorry, but no more events in 2012. The next medicine festival at this temple is scheduled for 2016. I am in Taiwan right now, but heading back to the UK in med-September. I don't think that the dancing and rituals in this video are particularly traditional. For traditional, you want to take a look at either orthodox Taoism or traditional spirit medium practices (tang-ki). (continued ...)

    2) ... You can find videos of all of these on my channel. Fot Taoism check the video "Sword Dance" and for traditional spirit mediums either the "Tua Ya Pek" or "Ritual flagellation" videos. How about yourself - are you an academic ?
