Definitely, if all there star players are fit and ready I can see a final in the making
Yes, but no more than SA or NZ… the problem with French rugby is that the players have a lot of games, top14 + champions cup = more than 30 games in a year, not counting international matches. Therefore, a lot of injuries…
@etiennetavitian3361 valid point. It's definitely going to be an interesting year for them
a big one
They'll be strong contenders
As a Kiwi, I respect France more than the Springboks because France don't play like scared cowards. They play rugby as it was meant to be played.
Meant to be played😂😂. How is rugby meant to be played. Rugby is a game of all sizes and how you use your size and speed js what makes rugby rugby. Just because france can't scrum etc doesn't mean their rugby is better 😂😂😂
As a frenchy i have no more respect for AB since 2011

The Springboks play to their strengths. Can't blame them and can't disrespect them for it

Joubert might be the frenchiest name i've ever heard there might be some kind of lesson here..
When we visit France we notice a national focus unlike anywhere else. Supermarket products routinely labelled with the flag and the region. Clothes shops with the flag on products. Cars with the flag on the dashboard. Much national manufacturing available in shops. Local products sold widely. Go to a French rugby match and it is sold out. Noisy like a festival. Kids and women everywhere. A quality stadium even in ProD2. Affordable tickets and an expectation that national or local.Ftench players will play. It is just in the culture. As a British it leaves me sad at what we let go.
This is for sure a surprising point of view from outside our borders, because in France we mostly feel a loss of our culture and identity for american culture essentially. But I have to say, self-flagellation is our National Sport (far before striking yes). Because any form of pride is easily perceived as arrogance.
@@acdejoureebut f**k yeah we are arrogant when abroad 😂
But yes at home being proud a patriot is not well perceived
@@Franfran722 Agreed but at the end of the day being accused of arrogance wether we are or not, as a frenchman in the US in my situation or anywhere else for that matter, we might as well embrace the concept and f@"k with the reception. There is a consensus french are arrogants, can't fight clichés might roll with it.
that's true especially for the south part of the country, i leave near la rochelle, and even 50 kilometers from the city you will see flags of La Rochelle , hoddy, scarves etc.. everywhere
@@acdejouree I realised a while ago when talking with French people that like people everywhere there a problems and issues. These always feel 'big' or 'critical' or 'unique' from within but it's only when you visit somewhere else, and not just once for a week in a hotel, that you get some perspective. The French sense of French and France, the demonstration of this in everyday ways, the difference in the quality of life is stark. You follow the Anglo Saxon Thatcher model at your peril. The UK is a very fractured and disconnected country and has the society and infrastructure to prove it.

France isn't a 3 times World Champion because Commonwealth referees keep robbing them.
Lies the only chance they had the time to win the world cup was in 2011 when the All blacks played badly and still didn't win a easy game
the scariest part of french rugby is : the sport is NOT developped in the north of france, almost ~30/40% of the french metropolitan population have no pro club in their REGION
Vannes is the first team from Brittany to play in Top 14 (and not even the biggest city in Brittany)
not any Top 14 team is from the north side of France outside of Paris
you only have Nevers in Pro D2, and Rouen in 3rd division
the game is developping fast in these regions, because Top 14 is more and more popular everywhere + world cup 2023 here in france where stadiums in Lille and Lens were full
@@neme6is.mp4 it's going to be interesting to see how the national side develops as the game grows throughout the country especially the North. France could be dominating the game by 2027
Allez vannes
Simply put, 80% of the top 14 teams are from the South of France. Rugby is only the 10th or so most popular sport in France, and was still amateurish till the early 2000's.
This new appetite for rugby is also due to the fed-up feeling with football. French football has become a sport for immigrant scum...
The LNR Ligue Nationale de Rugby managing the professionnal Rugby (Top 14 and Pro D2) was created in 1998. The JIFF (standing for Joueur issu des filières de formation aka Player coming from training courses) system in 2010.
Love him or hate him Antione Dupont is a maestro

Interesting comment, is Antoine Dupont hated normally? New to Rugby here in the US, and I have only heard great things being said about him, and when interviewed he seems to be humble... A true legend of the game
I've been watching international Rugby since the 70s, and France, to my knowledge, has always been considered a tier 1 Rugby nation. They were the last team to beat the Allblacks at Eden Park, not to mention against debutant Jonah Lomu. In my opinion, France has always had great players.
True they have always been contenders. Just a bit inconsistent at times but hopefully with the recent changes they can find better depth and consistency
The truth is that France will never win the Web Ellis Cup as long as it is refereed by a referee from the Comonwels. Even a final against Georgia, if the referee comes from the Comonwels, France will lose, even with fifteen Antoine Duponts.
If the French have that attitude you very right, France have no chance. If you want to see what needs to happen to WC try watching “Chasing the Sun”.

France should've won against the Boks in the RWC 2023. But O'Keefee decided otherwise.
During the last World Cup, something happened that went almost unnoticed: New Zealand and South Africa were obliged to sign up to the World Anti-Doping League's agreements, on the threat of having to play under a neutral banner. We'll see in the years to come whether these 2 nations continue to outrageously dominate world rugby, or whether the balance of power shifts... I have my own ideas on the matter. 🤔

Good analysis. I hope the system which has been built will be as efficient as what has been build for French handball (3 Gold Medal, 6 time World Champion, 4 times European Champion, all this in the last 30 years) . The critical part will be "who to succeed to Galthié?" Here can be the trick.

@@henryfynn7562 Ugo Mola, Yannick Bru
Hugo Mola, probably. And I think Galthié is not as good as we tell
@@AndreMalraux20341 Can you elaborate on what is not good in Galthié job ?
I know my team very well. I've been watching them play since 1978. I saw them in 3 WC finals that I didn't think they could win and they didn't. I saw them in 2 WCs that I thought they could win and they didn't (2003, 2007). I thought they were losing a bit of steam before and in the 2023 WC and they lost in 1/4.
All this being said, I think this is the first time in France rugby history that they have a real system meant to produce players and a team focused on winning games and competitions, including the WC. That doesn't mean they will win the WC. That just means they will be one of the teams that has what it takes to win it. I think France can keep this up for a long time so possibly they will regularly show up in WCs as one of the team that can win it and who knows, maybe one day ....
@@jeanmas4197 they definitely have a great team right now. Able to go all the way if all their players are fit and healthy and playing to their best on the day
you make some very good points there

@@Dkouts 2003, they really had a WC winning team. Kudos to England for handling them perfectly. They too had a WC winning team and they won it. I do believe if France could have passed England, they would have won it.
Losing to SA in 2023 was heartbreaking, but the SAs bench made the difference, + a couple of errors, like Ramos taking way too long to kick so Kolbé managed to block him. And the gap he left in the 1st half that resulted in a SAs try. France even though they are fantastic lack this little thing that makes a difference. We shall see in the next wc if they managed to get to the next level. But as a French fan of that team I am delighted by the games they offer. Allez les bleus damn it!
Unfortunately, as long as the matches are refereed by Anglo-Saxons, France will never win the World Cup.
Let's bring in refs from other countries to officiate important fixtures
I love watching French rugby and certainly we are seeing more youmg talent coming through their academies.
The T14 is a tough and long tournament and teams like Toulouse and La Rochelle are going well in the European Champions Cup. With real depth coming into the national set up i am really intrested to see how France go in this years 6 Nations especially as i think it will be the most competitive tournament in years
The 6 nations this year is going to be epic. Ireland, Scotland and England are out on a mission and the French will be tested in all areas
Can't wait for 6 Nations 2025 !!!
Keep in mind that this year isn’t a good one for the French team, as they’re will be 3 games outside and 2 at home for France, with a game in Ireland and one in England. Even if I support France, I think Ireland are the favourites.
Their academy setup is the best in the world
Absolutely, a lot of countries can learn a thing or two from them
Leinster
@DylanSyllabeu leinster are probably the closest when comparing those academies. But the whole of France are doing something special not just one club
@xaviermurray7698 exactly 💯
the rest of the world could learn something from them in this department
Amazing to see the French flair back under Fabien Galthie
Always exciting to watch
Now to keep it going strong for 2027
As a French, rugby lover from the father to the son, I follow the rugby since early 70’s, but I really need to say I’m not trusting anymore the IRB, i guess now it’s called World Rugby, all is setup for an Anglo Saxon dominance, starting with the referees, for me, in the last World Cup, south Africa was meant to win, and France was not the only victim by the way, New Zealand was also. Then, to my concern, in the current state of the international rugby institutions, France will never have a chance to win, no matter what team we got. And most of the French rugby supporters are thinking the same.
I am supporting a secession from the present international institutions, and the creation of another international system.

The JIFF regulation is truly a great thing. As a frenchie myself I really like it. Slight correction on your comment : teams in the top 14 and pro D2 must _maintain an average of 16 JIFF players per game across the season_ , as opposed to on any game day as you said. My favourite team, ASM Clermont Auvergne, had a couple struggles with that regulation and would regularly have to bring in more JIFFs even though they're not the best players to keep up the average.

jiff system proves they intend to build a production line .
this is no longer about having talented teams it’s about building a production line of players that will be in business for decades and decades …
Never before have we seen it in the “smaller” sport of rugby union (compared to soccer ). It is led by the French . and I am honesty impressed.
It’s a production line wow !
jiff is incredible
And the scariest part is that these lads are just the first generation of JIFF, plenty more to come. The job that has been done by French Rugby has been incredible from the ground level. Just watch this last game between La Rochelle and Toulouse where Toulouse used 15 new players (average age of the team 21yo) and they lost to a last minute penalty) The future is bright, Dupont's generation is just the "Entrée" to hopefully a very long dinner!
By First generation I mean the first generation of kids who grew up in these academy from the beginning
The future is bright indeed. Can't wait to see what other talents come through the ranks
As a frenchman i was afraid about English rugby going broke after Covid since it could have cause an emigration of the best players towards french championship, distabalizing the french national team. It turns out it helped enhancing concurrence and made the french even better. However, playing for Toulouse made Willis and Kinghorn better than ever
@@RAPHAEL-di8hz Toulouse had a cracking game vs Sharks past weekend. Kinghorn looked hungry to get the ball
The JIFF system is very well thought out because it is flexible. If a particular team doesn't want to or can't put enough youngsters on the field on a particular day, that's fine. What matters is their annual stats at the end of the Top14 or ProD2. And if they don't meet the requirements at the end of the year, they will be fined and start the next championship with a handicap. Some clubs take this more seriously than others, Toulouse being one of them, and it helps them stay at the top of both the Top14 and the Champions Cup, despite sending half their team to Les Bleus.
Incredible system indeed
It should be noted that the recovery of French rugby was achieved from the moment when people WHO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT sat around a table.
Balances have been found, unfounded fears have disappeared, Upon arrival, France has the most spectacular national team, the best championship, and a wealth of talent, from all generations. inexhaustible

We have so many young talents players...time will come!
For several years there has also been a lot of work by the federation to bring rugby to “popular neighborhoods with immigrant backgrounds” (Cameron Woki is an incarnation of this). This is an important change for the culture of rugby in France which has a “peasant” image.
The pool of young players is much larger and therefore allows us to have a larger and better elite at the top of the pyramid.
If the implementation is done completely and for a long time, I think we are at the start of something colossal.

South Africa - France 1995: France, the favourite, was ultra-dominant during the match. But the referee received a gold watch from the president of the South African rugby federation (true story!). The South African try scorer admitted in his autobiography that he had never scored the try that the referee had validated. 4 tries were disallowed for the French, while 3 were indisputably disallowed.
New Zealand - France 2011 : R. McCaw deliberately knocked out M. Parra with his foot and knee. He had to take a red card, but the referee did not look back at the slow motion. About ten fouls not called during the last 10 minutes in the rucks while the French dominated the Blacks. I watch rugby from the DR Congo in Africa where this sport is barely known. I love the French team (why the heck didn't they win the 1999 World Cup after beating the All Blacks in semi final?). As an African I also have a sweet spot for the Springboks particularly since the arrival of talented and less physically intimidating players. I would have liked the France-South Africa quarter final during the last world cup to be at least a semi final. That match was one of the most epic rugby matches in history with a real 50%-50% chance for each team. My opinion may not be popular: I regret the way some French people still do not accept the defeat and have almost developed a hatred for the South Africans but at the same time I come to find that the Springboks are sliding into a form of arrogance. May France win the 2027 World Cup (or Ireland).

They should at least be considering to up the importance of the national side before the 2027 RWC
@WatchRugby24 Hello. I think that it won't be the case. Why ? Because players are paid by clubs, and clubs already made efforts for the 23 world cup. Galthier could engage up to 42 players during that period at each international period, he had a lot of support and he only won the 6 nations once and felt to win the world cup.
For instance, next summer series for France are 3 matchs in New zeland but top players, who play the top14 finals, won't attend.
@@toutopoil yes we have already seen a lot of negativity about the French stars not attending the games in NZ. It's sad to see because they could be such an impeccable side if they were given the opportunity

Plenty of comments about referees. Did Ben O Keefe really cost France the quarter final or were they simply not good enough ?? Comment down below
They were brilliant on the day but they were beaten by a better team not by the ref. Great teams don't point fingers at everyone else, they focus on what they can do better. France didn't take all the chances available to them and made costly errors like the Jalibert kick. They are an excellent side but constantly blaming refs and rugby boards won't make them any better.
@@greeruguru If they were using video to doublecheck every action during the match, I would truly and happily agree with you. Sadly, none of the actions were doublechecked and we could not even see it twice on screen because there was no replay.
Sorry my friend but when we cannot see anything on TV, it means something. I'm used to watch Rugby since a very long time, I know what we are supposed to see in replay when something happens.
So the fault is not only on O'Keefe of course, the fault is mainly on World Rugby.
We should be able to see everything as spectactors behind our TV.
If we can see everything during non world cup matches but we cannot see anything during the world cup games... Well, it simply stinks to me. I was highly disappointed by World Rugby during the last world cup... And I believe there is probably some corruption somewhere in this organization...
@Tardyg interesting points. Glad everyone can have their opinions and express them respectfully
As a South African I have witnessed many times where South Africa was hard done by referees as well, the Bryce Lawrence game against Australia is one and the Owen Farrell tackle on Esterhuizen is another that springs to mind. So I don't think it's a case of world rugby purposefully having something against France because all teams get the short end of the stick every now and then.
France have also benefitted from ref decisions in the past such as the 07 world cup.
Tough to say it's a referee that cost them the game but at the same time referees definitely play a big role if they are making bad calls and not listening to TMO's as they should. We've seen this happen a few times in the URC season already
World Rugby officiait recognized that Ben O’Keefe cost France in this match.
It was a shocking performance.
Referees will never accept that france win the final !!!
Unfortunately, let's hope times can change
for me, the 6 nations tournament is more valuable than the world cup. too much politics, too much money under the table, too much pressure from certain countries, if you know what i mean.
I seen 3 finals with France but the hight deception has been the quarter final in 2023 ... for the first time in my life i cryed in watching sports . 1987 we can't beat the All Blacks , 1999 i think they just missed the mission . 2011 is special , i think referees steel the victory to france but our pacrour in competition was absoluty dirt and finally we doesn't deserved the trophy . 2023 was our year , our moment , our wold cup .. a very sad moment .
We concur. 2023 match was one of the best games ever played. A nail biter right till the last minute
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I am waiting for a south african to throw his anger and disgust at this video.....
@@electroaimant5402 what is there to be angry about? 😂 France deserves respect in the rugby world
Why should we be angry, our trophy cabinet is full, when you actually win a world cup you can sit at the big boys table.........
Most Springbok supporters actually have the greatest respect for French rugby. Ignore our trolls please. Your domestic competition is setting the standard internationally, and the national team is on fire. While I'd love for us to win the next one, I also hope you guys (and Ireland) get to win the WC soon!
@@chriswganser God create rugby so that the world would know where SA is. Without rugby, you'd be famous for all the bad reasons and be nothing but a third world nation... remenber that.

Excellent synthèse, Merci !! 👍🤞
It is not a matter of if we wind or not…
It is always a matter of how we played the match.
More brillant we play, more victory is possible because what we love first
is the "Panache" that we put in the game and that you call the French Flair.
But for sure, wind the world cup is one of our goal !! 😀😉👍💪🤞🇫🇷
It's a pleasure. Thank you for the support 🙌🏼
Ty for this video (sorry for my english (jking)) If we dont win the next mrwc, im gonna cry even more than 2023.... We can win, but we dont.... +1
They stand a good chance
Our pleasure and thanks for watching 🙏🏼 2027 will be great 💪🏼🇫🇷
I watched my country lost 2 world cups because of refball, I don't even watch international rugby anymore (since 2011), just Top 14 and Champions cup. International rugby disgust me 😞
@@John47mg so sad to hear that
And here's one more piece of evidence: this weekend's La Rochelle-Toulouse match, in which Toulouse's starting line-up was made up entirely of players born after 2000...

Hum… Ben O’Keefe?
« Toulouse and Montpellier are dominating European rugby”. Well absolutely not mate. Toulouse and Bordeaux are dominating. Montpellier doesn’t provide any player to the national team, Bordeaux finished at the Champions Cup first place with 20 points out of 20 possible. Louis Bielle Biarrey, Penaud, Jalibert, Lucy, Gazzoti, Moefana, Depoortere, Buros,… all are playing for Bordeaux.

Why then send a second string team to NZ on tour this year. Why not send the best and see how you go against the AB's at home ?
Would have been nice to see their first team in NZ
Because the final of top 14 would be just a few days before the tour would start. If WR cannot accommodate the French leagues by moving the tour calendar two weeks then the French are entitled to tell them you know what.
