    An important thing to note is that some air purifying units (I believe only the ones with ionizers) emit harmful OZONE. So even though it may seem to have the best mold killing capabilities, it may harm you worse in another way. Be sure to do your research on that to keep yourself safe. Personally I think a true hepa and carbon filter seems to be the safest bet. 🙂

    I have black mold in my house. For complicated reasons, I can't get it removed for a month, so I need something to keep me safe until then.

    Thanks for the video! I followed link and bought the Onyx, the Germ one had a lot of bad reviews for their products crapping out and even catching fire. Plus 180sqft sucks, the onyx covers 500sqft, which should be perfect for my living room.
    Appreciate it!

    What about a combo unit dehumidifier and air purifier for a basement? I purchased and received the SilverOnyx unit today. Our basement was tested at 2600 Aspergillus and 300 Stachybotrys so I’m curious as to what that will do to the air down there.

    • @HomeAirGuides
      @HomeAirGuides  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes a dehumidifier/air purifier combo unit can work to remove mold spores and lower the humidity in the basement. The advantage of using two separate devices (like the SilverOnyx you purchased) is that you can get the added benefit of the Ultraviolet light and Activated Carbon filter. Most dehumidifier/air purifier combos only have a HEPA filter. A good brand for dehumidifiers is TOSOT. That company makes a 30 pint unit that you can connect a hose to in order to drain as it removes moisture, then you never have to dump the tank.

      @@joeslacker1020 yes, green means the air isn’t great, yellow is worse and red is the worst for the SilverOnyx. My air is good according to the color scale unless we’re cooking which adds smoke. I’ve been running it for a year and only just now had to replace the filter. It has been working great. We added a toshiba dehumidifier in the basement with it and no problems so far. Still working on the moisture issue down there though.

      @@joeslacker1020 I also did mold remediation myself in addition to the purifier because the company I talked to wanted $24,000 to rip out sheet rock and spray an anti microbial spray you can buy right on Amazon. I also had an HVAC cleaning and replaced my HRV filters with MERV 13 filters.

      Molekule Air has an air purifier that is good for mold. It uses a PECO filter which is their own proprietary version. Check out this page for more details: molekule.science/molekule-air-purifier-indoor-mold/

    Are UV lights safe for kids and pets ??

    • @HomeAirGuides
      @HomeAirGuides  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The UV light is inside the air purifier and only emits light onto particles as they pass through the system. Therefore it is safe for kids and pets. Also, you can't see or touch the UV light when the filter panel cover is on.

    umm why would use trying to do this rather then getting rid of the mold?

    • @HomeAirGuides
      @HomeAirGuides  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Air purifiers are a great device to use in addition to mold clean up. These machines can also help low the total spore count in the air which reduces the spread of mold.

    • @NEOgeek402
      @NEOgeek402 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@HomeAirGuides first of all that's not quite how that works this is what I do for a living you absolutely do not want to rely on an air purifier it will cause problems. I said four people being cheap and lazy not to mention this is borderline setting yourself up for a lawsuit by trying to tell people that they can use this to take care of mold problems. Imagine if your apartment complex told you to do that that would be an immediate lawsuit that they would lose you should edit this video so it actually tells people that clean the mold mold is a very serious issue not only did you not cover the effects of mold but you basically encourage people to leave mold existing within their homes in their workplaces

      @@NEOgeek402 There's mold in my room's ceiling and I clean it with detergent whenever it spreads too much. Even then, it always comes back because it's like trapped within many layers of paint over the years, and sometimes my ceiling leaks due to brick gaps and rain, so it provides an environment for mold to grow faster.
      Because of that, I'm just looking for alternatives to deal with mold. I bought a dehumidifier to help reduce the rate at which mold spread. I open my window despite it being very cold right now in the winter. I also have a guardian filter and am looking into another filter to try to reduce the mold spores in the air.
      For the past year or two I've become more allergic to the mold. It's giving me breathing difficulties, phantom smell, dry/burning eyes, and forgetfulness.
      I really want to move out, but I'm still trying to find a job to do so.

      @@nomealow Wow good luck to you. I've had severe health issues for years and it didn't hit me until lately that it could be mold, I'm trying to find out how to get rid of it in an airstream aluminum travel trailer, the walls are like plastic or laminate and I don't think I have insulation but I'm not sure and I'm not sure what the floor boards are but I can bet there's mold in the carpets by now

    • @nomealow
      @nomealow 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joeslacker1020 yea it sucks that they come back so easily. I suggest removing the carpets. If it's affecting you now, then there's probably too much concentration of mold in your body. I suggest getting one of these air purifiers and open the windows until you feel better. I think it takes around 3-7 days for it to get out of my system and feel no symptoms.
      I'm gonna have to keep observing to see if my symptoms get worse again since I recently got the SilverOnyx and I have my windows closed for maybe a week now.

    I think one has to put out at least 500 dollars for a good purifier for mold. The cheaper ones will not do that good of a job.
    The Philips ac2939 is good. This has a meter that tells you the size of the particles that are being captured. It's called PM2.5 and PM10. Then you can know for sure if it's doing the job.
    If you can afford it, I would suggest Blue Air Blue air Health Protect. They have two versions. 7770i and the 7470i. The 7770i is the more expensive one.
    This also has the PM2.5 and PM10 meter that shows as to whether or not spoors are being captured.
    I'm glad I bought the more expensive one, because although I live in a small house, it does two rooms with no problem. Three not so much.
    The Blue Air is made in Switzerland and I think they put out better quality than a lot of other countries without naming any them. But you get my drift.
    I bought the more expensive one because it had the highest ratings in Amazon. Whatever you get you when you might want to order one of those home test kits for mold.
    Then when the air purifier arrives, check the results yourself with the kit to see if it really works. If the results are not good send the air purifier back and try again.
    I stopped buying completely anything advertised on FB, because I got scammed three times out of five.
    Amazon and Ebay will close the account when they find out it's a scam. Same goes for Pay Pal.
    Pay Pal will not play games when they find out about a scam and will destroy a business over night
    by shutting down the account which shuts down a once lucrative company's money flow.
