Can you imagine the stress she was under for her to menstruate for years? The hostility from those who should be using their energy towards guiding and re-building the heartbeat of our nation. you just make me confirm what i have been thinking for a very long time now, that most of our history are in the bible old testament. especially the way DIVINE CREATOR as them to make sacrifices and how he instructed Moses to tell Aaron on how to build the altar (Exodus 20:24-26)when they invaded Africa what they took mostly are books from Egypt.i strongly believe that acient Egypt have serious connection with the Benin kingdom, not this present Egypt today. in fact the acient KING of Egypt call pharaohs in the bible is the OBA of today,The kings are not bad the way the bible tag them to be,it is the invaders our enemies that change the story to make us look evil. This are some names of acient Egypt÷King Menes,Amenhotep,Akhenaten,Tutakhamen,Seti,Ramese,Thothmes.
Africa was the world power in acient time, they bring it down with combination effort.
This are the invaders ÷Hyksos,Hittites,Assyrians, Persians,Macedonians,Romans,Arabs, Crusaders,Turks,French and British.

Benin is older than the New Testament; there have been two certain female Ogisos in the first era, and likely more: Owodo is referred to in history as a Hemaphrodite!
Omose and Orhorho (Egharevba) were two female Ogisos/Obas.
In the 1500’s We can point at Edelayo’s failing to proceed from the Edaiken, but in reality primogeniture wasn’t established as known tradition till Ewuakpe in the early 1700’s.
We have a desperate affinity for a male dominated culture, but in this regard and in reality we are much more sophisticated than many of the cultures we mistakenly look to for direction.Through time we can point to independent women in Benin as fact.
Because we lost a war and were invaded is no reason to spend our time fettering some battered male egos. Ehendia - Ovoramwen’s sister - was just one, but much of Ugbague was occupied by women led households at the time prior to 1897, don’t let these tricky Europeans who came to distort our society with their male priests deceive you!

Thank you for the story which I have heard before, my question is why did Emotan story went to 2 direction, I remember when I was a boy, I was told Emotan came from the immotal world to trade market in Agbado market and Oba Ewuare wanted to make her his wife, Ewuare have to chase her to the spiritual world and fight his Spiritual husband name Egbedin,

Yes Bro, I 've asked the same question, Oba Ewuare 1, defeated her husband in the spiritual world {Erhimwin}, on her way returning from the spiritual world with the Oba, Her Husband fired an arrow or a spear towards the Oba, but the arrow mistakenly hit Emotan and she died, a tree was planted at the very spot she died or where she was burred, Centuries passed, the tree became a giant tree. Then in the 19th century and because of development, the colonial master was constructing a road through the part of the tree, they tried to chop than the tree, but the tree was bleeding blood, the history of the sacred tree was unveiled as Emotan, then Oba Akenzua instructed a statue should be built in place of the tree as a remembrance, Can Imasuen Amowie Izoduwa throw more lights on this please ?

both of you are liars. Please there is nothing like that in the history of benin. Go and make your research before you write what you don't know. Emota was the wife of the oba she was very lazy when it comes to house chors. That why they call her a nickname enometan, not sure my benin spellings are correct, but that name means useless. But one thing she was good at was trading at the oba market. She loves taking care of children, even when she is not their parents. She was always surrounded by children's. To cut the story short emota was actually the woman that sacrifices herself for peace to rain in benin kingdom. She made a proclamation that no one shall step foot on her grave. If anyone does that person must be killed immediately and his blood shall be sprinkle on the grave. The statu is there to make the very spot she was buried. And no one can stand on the grave till date. If you know emota shrine you will see that it's fenced to protect anyone from falling a victim. Go and read the story, please. I can say all by writing. There are more to it. Thank you.
