    In this video, I show how I made a cutting board out of European walnut, oak, cherry and epoxy resin, I also used oil to protect the board from moisture.
    This is a simple woodworking project that you can do with your own hands.

    The author does like to from scratch, th-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.

    I have to be honest. If someone gave me a cutting board like that, I would hang it on the wall in my kitchen. No one would touch that thing with a knife. That thing is gorgeous. Edit: also, your videos are extremely well made and I'm glad you don't put a bunch of background music on them. This is like ASMR. I've never seen your content before. I clicked on this and sat down to do some paperwork with this in the background and I couldn't get my paperwork done, I had to set it aside because this video had my full attention for the duration. A positive minded person would point out that it would make a good charcuterie board if not an actual cutting board but some just see the negative in things. Also, it is my understanding that epoxy resin, once fully cured is considered food safe. Beautiful work!

    This cutting board design is a distinctly refreshing departure from the run-of-the-mill products we see so much of these days. Not that they are poorly designed and executed by any means, but this version, complete with the unusual pattern of additional wood rounds encased in epoxy certainly, is an idea that takes making cutting board to a new level of creativity. And, it certainly doesn't hurt to have killer toys to make it happen, either. Well done, my good man!

      That's the thing. It is certainly a beautiful piece, but how do you make it into a cutting board you could safely use for cutting food stuffs. It is as well, like maky have mentioned, an elegant and very watchable video. The weird thing is that you seem to be the only one who brings up the fact that the epoxy, and probably other unidentified caulks and glues, would not be that healthy to cut into your dinner. Which make me wonder whether people watch these videos because they actually want to learn to make something functional, or just for the pleasure of watching somebodycrafty something?

    I'm very curious to see how this thing holds up. I'm wondering about bark seperation from the epoxy, the multitude of grain directions and contraction of the log pieces. It looks great and well done, I just want to see how it looks in a year.

      @@avswood well by the looks of it hopefully you'll still be around and making quality content in 6 months to a year, and that would actually be a great video to put out. So many things we make with wood need a timeline to see how they'll do. That video and info would be awesome :D Best wishes

    This is the coolest looking cutting board I have ever seen. Love the way you filmed it, it's functional art. You glued the bigger round parts with wood glue and then you did the little round parts with a clear glue and you sprayed something. Can you share what you did there? Was it super glue? What was the spray? Great work, I am inspired to make something similar after watching this video. Thanks.

    • @avswood
      @avswood  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you) I used superglue with an activator for temporary fixation, after pouring with resin everything is firmly held.

    • @LukeAndersson1
      @LukeAndersson1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@avswood Thanks, for the quick response. I read the comments from those people doubting if it will hold up over time, but I bet it holds up just fine. Using the resin will lock it all in for a long time. Bummer you do all that great work and then go through all the editing to have people turn around and rain on your project. Keep up the great work, you are an artist.

    First off, it's really pretty. I do have a couple of concerns though. 1. Once you apply epoxy it can no longer be used as a cutting board, unless you like plastic shards in your food. 2. You mixed edge grain and face grain, I wonder if wood movement is going to be an issue. Maybe not given the small surface area, but I have seen edge and face grain boards crack over time.

    • @avswood
      @avswood  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks) it's more of a serving board... about the different expansion of wood, I also thought about it, but I think nothing critical will happen, in any case it will be possible to restore ...

      @RT-jf9pp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thinking of the same thing, epoxy can't be used as a food cutting surface!. THis would be great for a dining room table top though!

    • @MorgusVR
      @MorgusVR 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@avswood even as a serving board, you need to make sure you use an epoxy that is rated for food contact. There are a few out there, definitely wouldn't go with epoxy as a cutting surface though.
