This way you make sure that they only do it when it’s a particularly important goal, like in the final minute of a cup final, making it particularly cathartic when it happens. If they always did it, it wouldn’t carry the special significance it does.

They might aswell just say we don't want players promoting politics that we/our sponsors don't like. Premier league is sanitized garbage for people who hate genuine football culture. No drinking in the stands, no flares no tifos, no pitch invasions, just sit in your seat and give us more and more of your money.

A red card certainly would make more sense since how it is now you can still display a political message and only face a very minor penalty all things considered, making it pointless. The other rules are useless as well considering all the things that waste time, but aren't strictly penalised.

I mean, i do get it but i also dont get it at the same time. I'd rather have it be a case by case basis (I.E. someone removing their shirt to tribute a dead family memory or friend vs someone removing their shirt to display something political and/or distasteful) that makes more sense to me and stops players for being punished for trying to show support to someone, especially those who are no longer with us.

That’s the problem of free speech, how do you police what’s alright and what’s not alright? What if someone gets yellow carded and then sent off for a double yellow and then later on it turns out it was alright? Or someone SHOULD be sent off but isn’t? It makes more sense to just ban it entirely because you’re no longer exposing yourself to unnecessary controversy especially over an unnecessary gesture.

The reason was actually because a player(forgot his name) still had his shirt off when the game started after he scored and he was running around with his shirt on his hands. The messages under their shirts has nothing to do as players can still do it by simply showing the message without taking the shirt off and they won't get punished.
