You can use the same Elmers glue. Remember that dry wall is basically just paper glued to chalk. If the surface is coming loose then basic white glue will do just fine. If it goes deeper then you need to remove the bad area and apply Spackle to fill the void.
I don't think you understand. That press thing is all one unit. It's called a cargo divider or truck bed divider. It is just a set of poles that ratchet apart from each other. You can buy it at Harbor Freight for under $20. That is why I said that these are things most people will have around the house. That is also why I said that in case you don't have one of these dividers, you can also use a shower curtain rod that is extendable because it does the same job. Most people will probably have a shower curtain rod that they can use for this project. Extend it from the floor to the ceiling or on top of a dresser and up to the ceiling if the one that you use is not long enough. You can use a pole on top of a ladder. Anything you have that will simply put pressure to hold the piece of plywood in place for a few hours.
i have a spreader clamp that is a lot like that truck divider that I used to hold upper cabinets in place for a one person install. I bet you could use those deciders for that purpose too. if you wanted to get more use out of them.
what kind of glue would you use for a bathroom ceiling?

I think we all also wanted to see how that press thing was mounted to whatever pole or stick came up from the floor !
