I have a tremendous amount of respect for them and the work they do for this city Most of this footage is the flaw of the resident over-stuffing the bin, broken bins, or an equipment malfunction. Agree. They will drive right by ours if the lid is not closed. I never knew why as I'm not there when they come by so now I know.
If they see that their can is broken the people should call to get their can replaced. It’s not the drivers fault
I wish we had a national holiday for these guys. They literally pick up the garbage our nasty bodies throw out . It would be nice if they had a recognition for their work . Appreciation
The arms that grabs and lift the containers maybe too aggressive or too strong and they look like that the pressure pumped is like 200psi
I was gonna say, the arm is super jerky, no wonder it flings garbage everywhere, lol.
Some of these trucks do have high PSI. Keen observation! They are always messing with it, so some rougher days are bound to happen

@@oscarq180sx I don't even own one, but I see some over packed all the time around my neighborhood but surprisingly, I went to watch them due to this video (lol), and they do just fine I've never seen them drop trash.
I mean they must have obviously, I just never seen it personally.

This is why the collection company that serves the community I live in will not service a toter that the lid will not close completely. They will come back later and will charge extra. That's the rule and people learn quickly when extra charges are involved.

Same in New Zealand. They just leave the over-full ones and don't come back. No extra charge - you just don't get your rubbish collected - lol.
The part I'm most interested in is the fact that these garbage trucks use an automated arm controlled from inside the truck. Where I live, the trucks do have arms on them, but the operator has to get out at every single stop and physically hook the bin to the arm, and also the arms don't clamp around the bin but rather slide inside a groove on the front of them. As well the trash opening is low enough to the ground so that if needed garbage can be tossed in by hand.
I'm very intrigued by the design of these garbage trucks 😂

That sounds similar to the most common designs in my region till around 10 to 20 years ago, when operating these apparently started to cost less than that style, so cities have been shifting to this style either as they replaced their trucks, shifted to a contracting model, or switched contractors.
The garbage trucks where I live don’t have arms at all, except in the front to get the big dumpsters but the rest the workers have to put it in the truck on their own

They use side loaders to pick up the bins in some parts of New Zealand. The ones in my town seem to have a camera or lazer on the side that helps the driver line up with the bin.

The people whos job it used to be to do this manually arent in love with them. Just more automation costing livelihoods. Give it 10 years and the bin truck will be automated and not need a driver.
The only time they actually decide to pick it up is when theyre being recorded. 🤣

The two that “failed” were overflowed or not closed properly, the one with the lid down worked fine.
its not the carts fault, its the arms fault. The normal amrep arm can work fine with overflowed bins. The type of amrep arm on the truck is an N3 and isnt very good at overflowed carts. the stop at the top of the arm causes a lot of fails

In my area if a can is so broken and damaged like that one at 1:46, the truck will just dump the entire thing in the back and replace with a undamaged one

When I was about 4 I first saw the trash men. It was fascinating to watch them work those barrels and trash compactor in the truck. Im 65 and I live in an old European village now. These guys use hydraulics to lift the dumpsters into the rear of an original old round back truck with the compactor. It comes down and grabs the trash and smashes it in. And then, They jump on the rear step and ride to the next stop. I still go out and watch them. Maybe if I hang around enough, they will offer me a ride on the step. I always wanted to cook hamburgers at McDonald's too. Life just goes by too fast!!!!

As a kid in the 1960s, the highlight of my week was Friday when the garbage truck came around.
I still remember the Chevrolet Apache truck with fastback style packer body...

As a fellow nj resident I can confirm. Especially on bulk trash days where people like to throw out window A/Cs and office desks. Dudes can probably pull trains with their teeth
Where I live in PA we have to manhandle the garbage and throw in the back of the truck it ain't as easy as you think I wish people would think of that before they put their garbage out
I never seen these in Europe, in Europe we have two garbage men riding behind the trucks and dumps it into a crusher thats behind it, we use coloured sorting bags so the sorting machines sort it out in the facility.

Our garbagemen did the same thing--only they DID NOT clean up. So this guy's much, much better.

they are essential people who work on it to keep the city clean. imagine you'd be on their spot. we should appreciate them
In the future, people will be shocked that instead of reducing the amount of trash we generated, we simply automated the disposal of it.
More like user bin filling fails. fill the bins properly and you wouldn't have these issues.

I use to install those rooftop red dot air conditioners on refuse trucks. They work great in Arizona.

Cul-de-sacs, anyone designing a neighborhood should have to drive a 37' long garbage truck through them and pick up 100 cans. There'd be a lot less cul-de-sacs in neighborhoods , that's for sure.
Even worse when they put them next to mail boxes and cars with no space between the cans... And then they Park all their vehicles up in there I have one landscaper every week on my route who literally parks in the middle of the cul-de-sac and slightly to the right blocking three houses at least and then you can't even turn around because you're back and might hit him

In my town, if the lid is open they tag you and do not pick you up. I agree with that.

Those first 3 recycle cans were so full that he threw tons of recycling from the toter on 0:22 fell on the other side of the truck and he damaged the rihrigs lid they were all pretty funny!

A lot of this isn't the fault of the driver. Some cans have instructions saying not to over fill, and to keep multiple cans separated from each other or obstructions by a couple feet.
In my country the garbage collection is being done by the city. So we have workers who ride in the back of the truck and get down every time to lift the bins and place them on the hooks. It's so strange to watch automated trucks
Garbage men should t have to pick up the mess. People are lazy and don’t break down their boxes or bag loose items that blow around. Use your heads and stop being so lazy lol.

In most of these instead of operator error it appears to be a problem with the bin itself being damaged or the mechanism not properly calibrated. The bins are being grabbed too tightly, pulled up to fast and flipped back down too vigorously. Get that fixed and that solves most of your problems

The only fail thing for me is when they don't pick up your trash for 3 weeks but reported it that they did, and you tell that to the clerk and they kept telling you the trash was always picked up. No, it wasn't not!

Weirdos in my city want to switch to roll carts. They say it will be an improvement over placing trash bags at the curb.
Whoever designed these trucks must have been a complete... "insert word opposite to genius"...
Most of those are so typical of city of Phoenix trash collection they rush and don’t care that they make a mess or break the containers and sometimes they drop the trash containers off at the next house.
Ya unfortunately that can happen. In my 5+ years of documenting primarily in Phoenix, I have seen a huge range of good and bad. From amazing customer service and hard workers, to lazy drivers who rush collection and the messy streets show that

Where I live there's just some dudes that hang onto the truck and go picking up the garbage bags manually (there's no trash bins), but this mechanical stuff is no doubt 100x times cooler
