I like Russell's point on mainstream TV, essentially treating the audience like small children. For what it's worth, I have never watched BGT, Strictly nor Bake Off, mainly because I am not 6 nor 58.

No, Russell, the spelling of Chihuahua is just fine, because it's a name in spanish, and in spanish we don't pronounce the H. Also it's the most fun dog breed name to say.
Russell makes a very good point in regards to jokes about bigotry VS joke about what some Liberals have done. You take the piss out of the Nazis, massive laughs from audiance (and rightly so.) Throw some jabs towards some of the things modern Feminists have done, some of the audiance laugh, some of the audiance will get offended AND/OR label you anti-woman. It's a risky thing to pull (unfortunetly) but if it hits, it'll hit well and gets a great response.
Well, I think he is definitely right as well, but it's difficult to joke about things that are unclear to most people. For example, you say "modern Feminists" as if all are the idiot type of Liberal Russell talks about, when most are definitely not. I would argue that the "idiot Liberals" (including those who claim to be feminists) are people who don't actually understand or really care about the cause they claim to be fighting for.
Unfortunately, those idiots are the ones who get the most attention and media coverage which leads to people thinking that they are what the cause stands for... That's especially prominent when it comes to Feminism, as it has always been met by a huge resistance due to deeply rooted prejudice and misogynism. The idiots just add more fuel to that fire... (=..=')
It's a very tricky topic to joke about, as Russell pointed out. But I think he (usually) does a good job of shedding light on the issues people are ignorant of, through his comedy and interviews. And other comedians like him seem to be getting more and more attention, which probably means that people are becoming more aware and involved (despite us living in a very narcissistic time).
I think comedy is a very effective and accessible method of educating people on social issues and politics.
That's why I love comedians like these two. Although my absolute favourites are Sara Pascoe and James Acaster. (James's comedy is a bit less political though.)

I have a tiny bit more respect for Russell now knowing he would like to take the piss out of both extremes, only he has to attack "bigots" more to keep his career going.
