    Definitely the best way to construct the garage/workshop first.

      Yes, we have made that mistake before - it will be a great building the house and able to retreat to the shop for a cup of tea 😉

      @@HomesteadingUncontained The music just made giggle 😀. To go back to what you were saying in the video about the flys, I live in the Limousine region and we have the same problem, Julie is right in saying cows as we have been told the same.
      Keep on with the good work look forward to the next video 👍

    All that faffing about!!...your soooooo slowwww......should of bedded the drainage when you did the shed base!...all that precision measuring for a mere shed!....joke build!

    • @HomesteadingUncontained
      @HomesteadingUncontained  ปีที่แล้ว

      A little more than a shed, plus it was my first pour so did not want to complicate it with added drainage. I have the time to do it at the moment.

    Very nice job. Looking forward to the steelwork going up! Only things annoying me at the moment are the red belly black snakes 😧

      luckily we only have mildly poisonous reptiles here. In fact I do search for them (had a pet blue tongue skink when I was growing up in Victoria...)

    Hi guys, have you thought of having underground water tank for those hot summers.

    • @HomesteadingUncontained
      @HomesteadingUncontained  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ah yes, when the structure is up, I plan to route all the rain water pipes into a common meeting point and then if we can afford it get a tank buried just below with an overflow continuing out across the fields. I hate missing the chance to collect rain water.

    Nice work on the drain. I started following because I am interested in buying a small excavator for use at my cottage in Canada. Then I saw you are working on this for your Bike B&B in the Pyrenees. I fell in love with riding in that area after doing Haute Route and some of the awesome climbs (Aubisque, Tourmalet, etc). Hope to find some info on your bike and stay services and come out to ride with friends. Cheers!

      Cheers Steve - We have been in the Pyrenees, running cycling holidays for the past 18 years. We are an agent for the Haute route (but have never done it) and we run a lot of different tours across the Pyrenees, Alps, Dolomites, Corsica and the Basque Country. We also have our base here where cyclists can trek out and do a multitude of loops, including the Tourmalet. Just drop us an email if you ever come across this side of the pond.

    Well done on another fine piece of work. As always care and attention leading to an excellent finish. You are setting a very high
    standard for yourselves but that will make it all the more satisfying when its finished. BTW - did you remove the surface drain
    from the floor - couldn't quite see from the videos. If so, any particular reason? Hope you get some good weather.

    • @HomesteadingUncontained
      @HomesteadingUncontained  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Arthur - I did not show me re-doing the whole drain. It was not correct so I had to pull it all out and grade it with a little more precision. It was so time consuming but I could not let it stay like it was. All good now though 😀

    A quick trick to keep you from burning up your hole saws is to Start the drill just enough to make your round mark in the wood. Then take a 10mm or so drill bit and drill a hole just to the inside of the big hole so it intersects the path of the hole saw. More than one is good to do as well. It gives the sawdust a place to escape to instead of packing into the teeth and gumming it up. Yes many of us here know what metric is. :)
    Don't feel bad about picking up one board at a time as that's the smart thing to do. I have been out of commission for almost a month because I have a metal insulated building and was building 2x4 framing and wall over it in my shop to insulate it better and have walls to mount stuff to. Well I think I ended up stretching a tendon and that was the beginning of December. Getting around was painful but finally yesterday it was like a switch and I am getting around without wincing and and in pain. Now not to push it too much as it feels better. It's easier to get hurt as you get older and it takes longer to heal now. Work smarter not harder.

    • @HomesteadingUncontained
      @HomesteadingUncontained  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tips - yes, that wood was very wet and heavy. Took me by surprise. And I am feeling the age thing. I got tennis elbow from the Poly Tunnel build about 18months ago and I cannot get rid of it. Both hands now seem to be seizing up so I am trying to take a little easier. We just ordered a piece of kit to help us a little more too.

    As a Beekeeper my neighbours are receipt of generous amounts of Bee pooh, but I don't charge them for the free car wax service! I find generous amounts of honey keeps everybody happy. Not sure the farmer turning up with a muck spreader would fill you with the same sort of joy 🤣

    • @HomesteadingUncontained

      argh, yes, when we have the big wasps they leave huge amounts. Luckily the farmers here dump all their muck at the doors of banks in protests..... 🤣

      I too don't know about Fly poop either... But I've seen plenty of our small spiders in So California leaving poop under their webs. And I know how aggravating it can be when it's on items that you need to use.
