Speaking of attaching things to the Kahakka bags how well does the 15L attach to other bags in the same manner that the Hatka does. Could the Kahakka 15L beat out the Hatka as a supplemental pouch/pack attaching to larger packs.
Hi Tim, could you try to attach the Kukkaro on the Kahakka 15's lower front row of PALS? I was wondering if this could be done with MOLLE sticks, creating an additional admin pocket with quick release option. Thank you for your consideration!
Tim_Keys, Subscribed to your channel a couple of days ago. At 2:00 minutes into this video you say you can ad a hip belt to this pack. Could you demonstrate that? I mean, does Savotta make one for this pack as an option? If not who does? Would it have to be sewn in? So far, that’s the only reason I wouldn’t be interested in this pack because it doesn’t have a hip belt. I’d like one as wide as the 25 L. Comes with if that’s possible. Thanks in advance for your reply. Gary.
Hi Tim. The German sleeping mat. Wasn't mainly designed prior as a sleeping mat. It' s more like a generell multi purpose mat. Of course you can use them for sleeping, combined with a wood crafted "Jägerbett" or Hunters bed. This mat got sorted out by the German Bundeswehr. But it still is a very versatile tool for use as Backpack mat, knee- and sitting Pad, Shooting mat and of course sleeping mat. Thanks for your vids by the way. Hope to see ablotore customization vids. Even on the older Jäkaari and "older" Savotta products.
Thank you for the info, I did not know that before :) And as for customization of different packs, I have not had to customize too many Savotta products like I have with other brands. If I modify, I will definitely show you all
Already have the bag but couldn't resist watching all the way through :D great vid Tim! I got the 25 on my external frame last night and oh boy does it rock. Minimal modding needed, just two loops of paracord/webbing!
Hey! Great review! Could you include fitting tests in future reviews? For example, showing how different bags fit standard items like a 14" laptop, a 0.33L soda can, or other universally known items. This would help give a better sense of their size. Thanks!
Hey Tim, thank you for your videos, i really like your modifications and the way you do your videos. Keep going! The only problem I see on the 15L is, you can't overpack it. Because on the longer weebing on the 25L, you can let the lid a little bit open. Great from Europa!
Thank you :) I will keep going for you guys. I always love to hear back that I helped or just entertained for a while. And the overpacking is something that a few people have mentioned, but I very much prefer the flat closure myself. So far, it is working perfectly for me
Thanks man, it's always a pleasure to see you around these parts. And as for the sleeping pad, I am not too torn up about it. Although you and I are different breeds of rough sleepers. I'm never alone out there, haha my 7 year old would never forgive me. So I am at a bare minimum 25+ liter pack for overnights. When he gets bigger though and can carry a little bit more than water and basic sustainment, that minimum bag size may change
Great pack. My only criticism is that I wish there was an option to extend the top straps that are connected to the two buckles. This way, you can extend the capacity of the main compartment if you really need to. The straps are a fixed length and are stitched on, and the buckles can not be removed. On the other hand, it provides a very solid and sturdy build. As it stands, the top flap folds 2.5 times before you can close the buckles. A tight one fold closure would be adequate tbh and would provide a decent amount of extra capacity.
I'm not too familiar with exactly how the prototype process went, but I can say that out of all the designs this one fit the professionals best. Take a look at Finnnco, and you will see what these folks do to torture these bags to a breaking point and more. All with a fix and a commitment to keeping you alive and duty capable
I'm hoping you also do a G40 sleeping bag liner review and how you use it in combination with other bags. No other videos seem available on that liner. Note that there is an american small company, vertex outdoors, that sells bags made by what appears to be the same manufacturer of the carinthian bags. I bought several because they are able to get them made in a XL long (I'm 6'5"). Vertex seems to have european connections to get these bags. Their midsize bag is exactly the same bag as the carinthia D4, inside loops, insulation, and compression bag. I have several carinthia bags and the vertex bags appear to be the same.
I am trying not to branch out too far, I don't want to become a full time reviewer, but I will see what I can do. I just don't want companies calling me, and some already are.
I do believe in Carinthia, so I just may do it for you. I just have to tread very carefully. But my entire year can be summed up like this: Spring/Fall- Tropen Summer- G40 Winter- G40 inside Tropen

Another Great video Tim!.. was cool to see the hatka, kahakka 15 /25 litre side by side.. was wondering if you could show others. i know you have Jaakari M.. i have M and L myself .. do you have the large xl?
First... thank you for the video! :) Always looking forward to them... :) Do you always have to roll the lid three times in order to close it or can you adjust the height somehow (overpack)? The 202 is a nice daypack as well with its 17l plus little pouch outside. Sure.. you cannot attach something but still... and if you consider the price. 202 plus Askare is cheaper than the 15l I think... ;) Maybe something for your 202 video... ;)
The Kahakka 15L is not designed for overpacking, you need to fold the top a couple of times for a proper seal and the buckle straps are not adjustable. The 25L on the other hand can be overpacked a bit due to it's more "lid-like" closure system.
I am seeing a ton of people wanting a 202 video, I will get that to you right after the Kahakka attachments video. And thank you Savotta for coming in to save the day again, you guys are awesome :) give my love to the customer service team and tell them I'm sorry on behalf of all us Savotta nerds
13:05 What's the knife? It looks like a Varusteleka knife but I'm not sure of the size. Does the handle line up well with the top of the pocket on the 25L like it does with the 15L?
Can you maybe do a video about Savottas Colors one day? Comparing them + maybe other popular brands interpretation of the same color(s) I've just got a 'Brown' Savotta Fannypack, which looks very 'coyote/sand' on the official Product Pictures but quite a lot more greenish irl
Tim_Keys, 2:00 minutes into video you say you can ad a hip belt to this pack. Does Savotta have a hip belt for this pack? Does someone else? Does it slide right in to the bottom opening? Also, would the hip belt be 2” wide? Thanks in advance for your reply! Gary.
Savotta does not offer the hip belt but you can very easily make one out of a pack strap or any other webbing. I intend on making one out of a 50mm shoulder strap that reduces to 25mm
@@Tim_Keys, OK, but will the 50mm width slide into the bottom opening like I assume the one does on the Savotta Kahakka 25L or will it have to be sewn in? Gary.
Nothing I show you guys will ever involve sewing. What I am planning is using an existing shoulder strap from Varusteleka, cut in half. It is 50mm, reduced to 25mm by metal rings for connectivity. A wonderful piece to have on hand no matter what.
Are the interior compartments waterproof on the 15l and 25l? I see that rubberized coating on the inside so I was wondering. That'll probably be the deciding factor on purchasing for me.
Blue Falconing the lower enlisted? @Varusteleka needs to give you the BF patch ..lol The drainage holes seem to be a smart design; No worrying about metal gussets.
Hahaha I hated myself right there mentioning that, but a Finn will put a PKM can and a tank mine on pretty much anything so I might as well tell them where they can do it comfortably
Great video! Will a 15“ MacBook in a sleeve fit in the 15l version or is it too small? I wanted to get a small backpack I can take when shooting pictures (with some spare clothes, coffee and snacks) but also carry my laptop when needed. Guess the 25l version might be better
It will not fit in the 15L, it is not wide enough for your laptop. But it will fit perfectly in the 25L and leave you a bit of extra room for added padding if you want to do that
Yes it can, but with some adjustments in mind especially if you have something in the side bellows. But with the 4 point front attachment system you can really put anything on the front of a Jääkäri. A lot of people switch to G-Hooks on Jääkäri to access more possibilities
You know I'm not really sure, I'm not a camouflage kind of guy so I don't have anything to look at and see. I would definitely ask customer service this one, but it might have something to do with multicam being a licensed product. Definitely let me know what you find out though!
You can buy it directly from Savotta, or from this retailer if you are not in Europe scandinavianoutdoor.com/savotta/gear/backpacks-and-bags/backpack-and-bag-accessories/happy-patch
Great video, thabks for that! Would those straps work on a keikka? It also has d rings, just not sure if thw spacing on the shoulders side would be too wide
Yes they would, but not for intensely heavy loads like you would have in the 80L Keikka. Plastic hardware at the padded strap base, it's removable (split-bar, modifiable) but you would have to get crafty with metal hardware before I would use it on a heavy 80L
@@Tim_Keys Well actually! We use those same or similar plastic ladderlock buckles on some pretty big backpacks too, including the Jääkäri M, L and XL. They are strong enough for some pretty hard use. Side-release buckles on the other hand wouldn't be too cool on heavier packs, but ladderlocks are by design very strong.
I am sorry for the late reply, I knew the answer but I wanted to properly test it for sure in the morning for you. Unfortunately, they do not fit in the 15L back panel slot
I’m glad to hear it’s made in Estonia. I used to live in Estonia and looking for a backpack made in there One question, can you fit a 16 inch laptop in the water bag compartment? Maybe you could tell me the dimension of the “German sleeping bag”. Anyway thank you for the great review! Supporting you from Japan :D
Arigato my friend :) I don't know exactly about the laptop, but the sleeping pad measurements are 27.5 x 38 x 3.5 cm If you ask on reddit.com/r/savotta I am sure someone will take care of you better than I can
It would definitely be invasive, but it is possible. If you have a heavy duty seeing machine or a service near you that can do it, you definitely can, but as a friend I would say to think very long and hard before making that commitment. Getting the Jääkäri straps back on will probably be impossible after that.
There is a PU coating along the inside of the material. It can handle the first rain but you need a rain cover after a bit, unless your stuff is in secondary dry bags. The weak point as with anything is the seam, these are not taped but that can be done easy at home with some GearAid stuff. Still maybe not 100% water PROOF but a damn high level of resistance
Il est bien dommage qu'ils n'aient pas conservé la poche fermeture éclair sur le dessus comme sur le 25l , cette poche là est toujours "extrêmement" pratique ..pour moi. 🙂
These went through a huge amount of testing and prototyping, and from all the feedback they got this was the best design for a soldier's go-bag to stay as small as possible. And that top zip pocket adds a huge amount of work and price to the final product. Armies buy enough product, that even one extra strip of webbing on each bag can cost a small fortune
They are 2 entirely different beasts, but look very similar. The very high amount of modularity, and included pieces of the Kahakka 15L make it a great backpack right from the start. The Jääkäri S is great from the start too, but to match the comfort and modularity you have a little bit of work to do. But the Jääkäri S will expand to hold your life and more, while the Kahakka 15L will only expand at the side bellows pockets Both will survive the apocalypse, and both have great merits, but they are very hard to compare
I got the S for quite some time now as a Bushcraft pack and I gotta say that it fits everything I need and can fit bigger nor bulky items than this one here, but the main reason I want the kahakka are the side pockets. The jäkäri is basically a big old stuffsack with less comfortable shoulder straps. I still love it though. When I go shopping groceries on a bicycle I always have this to pack it all. Also keep in mind that you can't overpack the kahakka. Greetings from Germany ✌️
The S doesn't come with a foam pad for the back so if you don't pick that up separately you'll feel all of the contents of your pack digging into your back
I tried to like a comment right before yours, but I accidentally hit remove when the option screen changed too fast, I wish I caught their name I would reach out and explain what happened. I am going to be thinking about that all day now.

Oh shit! Well luckily I think this is the only place I have said that. I will keep that info in mind for the future
Does the Savotta Foam Pad and the German sleeping pad fit in the bag pocket where the grey foam thingi is inserted?
I am sorry for the late reply, I knew the answer but I wanted to properly test it for sure in the morning for you. Unfortunately, they do not fit in the 15L back panel slot
there's no top zippered pocket as on the 25L?
No top pocket on the 15L, it is just a fold top closure
@@Tim_Keys a thank you! And overall, wich one do you prefer 15 or 25?
It depends on the day really. If it's just me the 15L will do me fine most times. Tomorrow I'm having a picnic with the family so that's a 25L day
Tutorial and recommendation for added hip belt please
I’m glad to hear it’s made in Estonia. I used to live in Estonia and looking for a backpack made in there
One question, can you fit a 16 inch laptop in the water bag compartment? Maybe you could tell me the dimension of the “German sleeping bag”.
Anyway thank you for the great review! Supporting you from Japan :D
Arigato my friend :)
I don't know exactly about the laptop, but the sleeping pad measurements are 27.5 x 38 x 3.5 cm
If you ask on reddit.com/r/savotta I am sure someone will take care of you better than I can
As an eesti, we may have never met, but we miss you, come back sometime :D
@@Tim_KeysI really appreciate your reply! Thank you❤
@@matimikk2275For sure man!
Happy suunipaev :D
Hello friends. Is anyone aware of an easy and non-invasive way to update the straps on the Jakarii M to the new straps offered with the Kahakka?
It would definitely be invasive, but it is possible. If you have a heavy duty seeing machine or a service near you that can do it, you definitely can, but as a friend I would say to think very long and hard before making that commitment. Getting the Jääkäri straps back on will probably be impossible after that.
@@Tim_Keys good point sir. Thank you for responding!
does this backpack have waterproof coating?
There is a PU coating along the inside of the material. It can handle the first rain but you need a rain cover after a bit, unless your stuff is in secondary dry bags. The weak point as with anything is the seam, these are not taped but that can be done easy at home with some GearAid stuff. Still maybe not 100% water PROOF but a damn high level of resistance
Great review. Where can i purchase? Do they Shipp to the usa? Thanks
Check with Varusteleka.com
Great people up there, close friends and partners with Savotta too
Il est bien dommage qu'ils n'aient pas conservé la poche fermeture éclair sur le dessus comme sur le 25l , cette poche là est toujours "extrêmement" pratique ..pour moi.
Salut mec 😎, est-il possible de mettre la ceinture ventrale du JAAKARI L sur le M ?
What is the difference between this one and jakari s
They are 2 entirely different beasts, but look very similar.
The very high amount of modularity, and included pieces of the Kahakka 15L make it a great backpack right from the start. The Jääkäri S is great from the start too, but to match the comfort and modularity you have a little bit of work to do.
But the Jääkäri S will expand to hold your life and more, while the Kahakka 15L will only expand at the side bellows pockets
Both will survive the apocalypse, and both have great merits, but they are very hard to compare
The S doesn't come with a foam pad for the back so if you don't pick that up separately you'll feel all of the contents of your pack digging into your back
Just like in school, just put the big book against the back and whatever else happens just happens

First comment :)
I tried to like a comment right before yours, but I accidentally hit remove when the option screen changed too fast, I wish I caught their name I would reach out and explain what happened. I am going to be thinking about that all day now.
@@Tim_KeysI'm not sure how that all works but is the comment author still able to see their removed comment? The only comment I've seen before this one sorting by new is my own and I've been refreshing every short while to watch the comments come in.
Same as you, I am not sure how this all works yet. I don't know if they still see it. But I found it easier to keep the page open on the youtube studio app and on a phone browser app so I don't have to keep switching and losing my place. The accidental removal happened on the phone browser app
Sorry mate but I Identify as First 😊
@@Tim_Keys So I switched accounts and sorted by new and my comment isn't visible so I guess it's mine that got deleted. Hopefully there's some way to get it back because it was first comment by 13 minutes and actually had substance to it instead of just saying 'first!'. Anyway no hard feelings. Looking forward to seeing how well these Kahakka bags attach to other bigger bags in the attachment video you're talking about.
