  • My 1HD-FTE diesel Land Cruiser has swirl flaps, which I didn't expect. So I'm removing them, and doing an EGR delete at the same time.

    I've been loving these vids on this 100 series. I have one coming from japan and can't wait. Great videos mate keep it up

      Thanks for the feedback. Glad you are enjoying it! Are you doing a full import from Japan?

      @landcruiserscotland Yes, sadly, after looking and looking at, i couldn't find a clean one. i the uk thehy were just too rusty, so i used an agent i have used in the past to import myself one. It's a 100 series in white with no rust and 124k miles on the clock. The bodywork is very clean. Dont get me wrong. it's a tad bit more expensive, but honestly, due to the condition, 100% is worth it.

      Yeah I'd love it if that was an option for me. The rust here in the UK is wild after 20 years. Unavoidable. What country are you in?

      @landcruiserscotland uk mate based in West Yorkshire. I know you folks up in Scotland have it way worse then us down here for rust. Its costed me just shy of 20k to do it but honestly not regretted it yet. Its due to arive mid march. Was thinking about a 80 series as i love the luck of them so i could possibly even sell my 100series if i find a nice 80 in japan. If you have instagram drop me a link and i can pm you some pics of the 100series

      Lovely! The Instagram is also land cruiser Scotland too, and them over! If it makes you feel any better, I spent 16k on two landcruisers to build one good one 😂

    I had the same issue with my 12 valve 80 series. Did everything external and still had that issue. It had a poor service history, so after thousands of dollar's spent i came to the conclusion it was an internal issue. Goodluck all the way from New Zealand.

      @landcruiserscotland sold it on with the buyer aware of the issue. He drove it two days straight on the return trip home with no issues. Never heard from him again.

    Hi, if its blue smoke and mainly on overrun its more likely to be valve stem seals. Blue smoke is oil and white is unburnt diesel.
    Also I would give it a good run first to clear any pre work build up of oil, get it nice and hot.
    Let me know how you get on.

    • @landcruiserscotland
      @landcruiserscotland  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately there's low compression on 3 of the cylinders. Looks like I've got some piston ring damage :(

    • @julianchambers8372
      @julianchambers8372 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well mate only one thing for it, its cylinder head off to take a look. It could be valves causing low compression , with the amount of carbon build up this could cause a valve seat issue. Also would confirm ang vale stem seal and guide wear.. This would be my first line as you don`t know until you get into it. I don`t think its the pump and I would defiantly remove the head first to see whats going on.

    • @landcruiserscotland
      @landcruiserscotland  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think in hindsight you're right. The amount of blue smoke makes me doubt the pump, but it's the only thing left apart from major engine trouble.

  • @davidgirvan6007
    @davidgirvan6007 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Surely a fuel injection pump issue would cause black smoke and damage to the pump should only be a result of contaminated fuel, as the fuel lubricates the injection pump. The blue smoke when your mate revved it first time would suggest engine oil to me. How it’s getting into the combustion chamber is the difficult question to answer

    • @landcruiserscotland
      @landcruiserscotland  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think you're right, but the internet just keeps suggesting "it's the pump it's the pump" so I'm working through all the checks starting with the cheap and free ones. The resistances on the pump all work fine, and the car runs great once it's warmed up. It's a shame that after all these years we have to check smoke by looking at it and guessing the colour. Modern science should have made a smoke tester by now :D

    Are you loosing coolant at all? If not, then its likely not your head or the head gasket. Low compression is likely from the gunked up valves. But light white smoke is fuel related. You know your injectors are good. I would think it's the pump at this point. If you ARE losing coolant, all of this could def be the head gasket after all. If this motor is anything like the 1KZ in the Prado, it has a MLS gasket, which when those go bad you don't get a ton of billowing white steam like you would with gasket of other materials. MLS gaskets when they go bad typically result in rough starts, light white smoke during idle especially once motor is hot. I just replaced the cylinder head on my Prado because of these issues -- was a bad gasket.

    Yes mate, head off its the only way. If it is head problems its not such a major prob. Easy enough fix if its valves and seal/guides. Piston/cylinder problems more of a problem.
    I`m of the understanding these engines are very rugged = long life. How many miles has it got on it.

    • @landcruiserscotland
      @landcruiserscotland  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      150k but I have a suspicion the servicing is poor. It was cheap and I suspect it's got major damage internally now.

      @@landcruiserscotland wow goes to show how tough of an engine it is. Here in Australia it's still thought of as the best Diesel engine we have. Prices for LandCruisers that this engine are very high.

      @@AJScunjurong Over here they seem to be pretty fragile for injection pumps, piston rings, turbos and so on. I think they break as much as any other engine, but it seems like they just don't stop. Even with 5 cylinders and crumbling bearings mine still had plenty of guts in it 😆
