Huh, the male A.I. voice kinda sounds like Space Tomato... Ray's Guide did a really good explainer on why he believes it's actually the name of some future DLC for Star Citizen. Which sound odd at first until you remember that Star Citizen (somewhat stupidly, IMO) canonized the concept of *souls* in their universe. Not gonna lie, I'm not terribly thrilled with their explanation of, "Herp derp, humanity uses magical alien tech for cloning that we somehow don't understand whatsoever yet can mass produce. My money is on a custom LLM that let´s you have dynamic conversations with certain NPCs. The tech has been available for a while now and CIG are certainly innovative enough to try it. The words soul and singer kind of make me think this is about human interaction in the game, but who knows.

Being that it's trademarked it's going to be a significant thing like a game mode. Considering who they had review it however, along with the name, I wouldn't be surprised if there's some AI related tech coming in. Remember they're doing A LOT of work on their NPC AI in SQ42. They could be looking to license that AI tech as part of their Star Engine but as its own thing if a studio wants just the AI.
If it is an RPG fantasy, they may compete with Hello Games’ Light No Fire if they put out a trailer. But it wouldn’t surprise me if CIG kept things under wraps, Sean Murray does the same thing. Nice AI convo. 😎
Probably just a fully upgraded ai system named “soulsinger”. I couldn’t imagine they’re building a whole new game or dlc this early into development when they’re not done with SQ 42 or the PU.
Lots of speculation but the first thing that came to mind was tech: As you said, something to do with A.I. but I thought it might be the overarching Trait & Behaviour System for NPCs at scale, giving them life and personality . . . . a Soul-Song? My second thought was the Xi'an angle, echoed in comments, linked to SQ42 part *whatever*. This I feel is less probable. It could, of course, be an in-universe game for the Sim-Pods we will be getting . . . . one day. I love theory crafting! Thanks Dig 🤔👍
Could also be the tech they spoke about which is machine learning for the planets but it would be better to just wait and see, enjoy other games while we wait for the project to finish.
Just as there were different titles for Wing Commander episodes I II and III, eg Wing Commander 2: Vengeance of the Kilrathi. Soul Singer is likely just that, and may just be the name for Squadron 42 Episode I.
I'm gonna keep an open mind and wait. That said, I do hope they know what they are doing as the fan-base's patience has gotten thin and they have 2 entire games they have yet to get out the door.
Erm . . . . 4 games to get out the door! The P.U., SQ42 part 1, 2 and 3. You are right about the patience comment though: Mine is holding but it's not as strong as it once was but I think it will see me through (inhales hopium).
The AI missed the nuance of how arena commander and star engine are also listed as “downloadable computer game software”. My first thought was; it’s likely their AI personality/trait system. Or possibly even their server meshing tech bundle. Or the working title for sq42 dlc or maybe episode 2. TLDR only CiG knows
I hope we'll find out for better or worse at Citizencon. I would love to see Tony Z make a grand appearance with a soulsinger announcement, could be epic, could also be an epic fail. My personal hope would be some continuation of simulated economy.
In all likelihood its going to be the next chapter of squadron 42. The soul singer name itself is telling because that sort of phrasing is very common in the Banu culture that they've developed for one of the alien races that exist in the lore. If I had to guess, because they are essentially in final clean up mode for sq42 that this was merely them taking the first steps towards working on the next thing. So yeah it would tie back into star citizen because we already know that once squadron 42 is out, many of its assets and even the Odin system the story takes place in have been stated will be introduced into the MMO side of the game. So it would stand that the assets and content created for soul singer will eventually find its way there as well. I really think people are reading too much into this. I know people love to speculate but really we've zero actual evidence of anything other than the fact that the did file the trademark. Better to just let them cook whatever it is they're working on and show us when they think its ready to be shown.
I bet is their new AI technology and NPC crew features, this thing is on paper so deep that for sure they would want to make it a trademark and monetize it along the Star Engine (AI is usually not included or very limited in the base game engine like UE5)
someone brought up the audio system they talked about last year and then seeing this title makes me think it could be the name of the audio engine. So that's my guess
Given CIG said new mech suit is a tool and not a cash grab and then a week later they release a tool for more than many ships I think the punters rightfully called it what it was. A cash grab.
Cig has obsessed on npc AI interactions and believability since the beginning with things like janitor ai, weapons armory gunsmith npc, city train transit passengers npc, cafeteria meal time npc, on and on. But they never really gave us full info on their fancy tech for dynamic conversation with npc - and now I think this is their AI powered dynamic convo with npc tech
Everything that has ever happened from cig was announced. When there's a demo reel and an outline we will definitely hear all about it.
