11 national titles in 14 years and 18 national titles overall is crazy! Not to mention beating most FBS teams they played with a few being in top 20. They were one play away from beating Colorado this year, this team needs to go FBS!
I don't think they could compete with a all FBS schedule. It's doable for them to play one game against middle of the road FBS team early in the year, but I don't think they would survive a late October gauntlet of playing back to back top teams.
@michaelphillips2629 You must be new to college football. NDSU is ALREADY competing against FBS while having 22 LESS scholarship athletes, playing 100% of the FBS games on the road, and having ZERO 4 or 5 star recruits. Now imagine if NDSU moved up, got 22 MORE scholarships to hand out, played some FBS games at home, and we're able to get a few 4 or 5 star recruits... NDSU would be in the CFP within about 5 years
A former Bison grad here, THANKS for the video, very well done. We had similar success at the Division II level for decades and many didn't think we could complete at in the FBS. I totally agree on your assessment, moving up is probably not in the cards for any of the ND and SD teams, but we do enjoy beating the FCS teams on occasion when we do play them, or almost knocking of Colorado at home like we did this season.
People also don't know that Craig Bohl was an assistant coach at NDSU in 1984 when NDSU lost the national title on a 50+ yard field goal as time expired. Had NDSU won that natty, that would have allowed them a 4-peat as they won titles in 1983, 1985, 1986, 1988, and 1990 So Craig was familiar with NDSU before he took the HC job in 2003
It will be a miracle of Bryce Lance is still on the roster at the start of fall camp. You know the P4 FBS schools have been calling him non-stop since Monday night with 6 or 7 digit offers to transfer. NDSU can't afford million dollar offers to keep one WR on the team.

NDSU and Fargo is just built for football. The Fargodome hosts not only Bison games but hosts high school playoffs like the section championships for the Minnesota Section 6 and 8 every year as well as the North Dakota football state championships plus the Fargodome also has two days of having the local elementary football league have the end of season capstone games there as well. Local kids grow up with the want to play in the Fargodome. Then you have Scheels headquarters in Fargo and they sell a lot of Bison gear. Heck, NDSU alumni are everywhere either running companies in the area or working at places like Bobcat, CNH, John Deere, Microsoft, Sanford or RDO, all huge companies in the area. So you have a fan base with good incomes. Then you have the surrounding communities that are playing good football like Casselton, Kindred, Barnesville, Fergus Falls, Mahnomen-Waubun, Perham and Fertile that are all in the Fargo media market. These kids grow up with a healthy dose of Bison Football. On top of that, you are about 4 hours on I-94 to the Minneapolis-St Paul metro and are able to recruit kids that are not getting looks from the Gophers. And there are no serious FCS schools in that market. To me, having them and the other Dakota schools in FCS is a good thing. Rather have them play for national championships every year and not for some unheard of bowl game.
If NDSU is so rosey, accomplished and rich, how come they cannot get a simple bond to upgrade the 33 year old Fargodump, a measure that has failed repeatedly? SDSU's outdoor stadium, the Dana J Dykhouse Stadium, is nearly 8 or 9 years old, has larger capacity and much more modern than the aging and outdated Fargodump. (and SDSU's stadium is nothing great to brag out either, and is also lacking for any real FBS consideration in the future). NDSU"s small and outdated playing facilities are doing them no favors for trying to get into the FBS. Big NDSU fan. Many NDSU grads from both sides of my family. Friends around the country always ask me how NDSU is so good. Think of it this way: if you were a HS football player who is looking at going to a mid tier FBS school, or going to a multiple Natty winner 1 division down (who has the mentioned financial advantage over many FBS schools) where would you go? Lots of kids from around the country make the choice to go to Fargo. It is a special place with special fans who LOVE the BISON. As for fan support: try and buy a ticket to a rivalry game at the FargoDome, the secondary market prices are ridiculous.
Every thing you said was right until the last sentence. It's a well know fact NDSU attendance has been shrinking terribly over the past couple of seasons and even had playoff games this year with the Fargodome being only 50 yo 70% full for home games, until the SDSU semi-final game and that didn't even officially sell out until the day before the game. (Ouch!!!) Also, the Fargodome (or Fargodump) is a 33 year old facility that is desperately showing its age and needs a major upgrade and renovations. Several votes have been attempted for a Fargodome remodel and addition and each of these bond measures have failed after several times. The current state of the Farogdome is not helping NDSU getting into the FBS and is not up to other FCS playing facilities in the region, but nobody in Fargo wants to pay for it because they can't afford higher taxes. The smartest thing NDSU should have done decades ago is give the middle finger to the City of Fargo and build their own stadium that is owned by the university, just like what South Dakota State and the University of South Dakota both did a long time ago, so they are never held hostage and handcuffed by needing a vote of city and taxpayers to even paint the walls or change the carpet.

North Dakota State can't for a multiple reasons. They would have to add sports due to Title 9, add more scholarships that are required to even be FBS level, have play a big exit fee to conferences they're already affiliated with, pay a fee to move up to the FBS to begin with, have a conference that actually wants them, have the revenue market to do so because they don't, and not be an extreme geographical outlier. NDSU also has no FBS programs in its recruiting footprint. The program immediately above them in the upper midwest recruiting heirarchy is in the Big 12. The team two spots below them is the best program in the MAC (NIU)
I know some people are going to say to bring these guys to the FBS level, but we already have enough FBS teams and we don't want to dilute the FCS even more. Not to mention they have a lot of complicated stuff to get through before even thinking about considering a jump to the FBS.
The FCS is not going to survive much longer in its current state. Missouri State and Delaware are leaving for the FBS in 2025. NDSU, Sacramento State, and UC Davis have all made it public they are pursing moving up to the FBS. Where is that going to leave the Missouri Valley and Big Sky FCS conferences?!?! Totally gutted out. Don't laugh, the Missouri Valley and Big Sky may have to combine and become their own FBS conference and leave what is left of the crumbling FCS behind. Don't laugh....stranger and stupider things have happened.
This whole thing about the FCS being diluted due to programs leaving for the FBS doesn’t really hold water. This same process was happening long before NDSU jumped to FCS. Other DII schools have jumped up to FCS and became powerhouses and we’re already seeing some of the recent jumpers becoming close to playoff caliber. It’s really kind of historically cyclical in the FCS where you’ll get a log jam at the top with high quality programs and some will make the jump then others step up to fill there place within a few years. It’s within the realm of possibility that a new FCS member or even one ready to jump to FCS could step up in the next however many years and surpass NDSU and the other powerhouse schools and become the dominant program.
As a 4 or 5 star recruit I'd rather go to NDSU, start for 3 or even 4 years, win a Championship in 2 or 3 of those years then go to a school like Texas, Alabama or Ohio State. Having those Championships would be absolutely awesome.
Interesting take on this. I disagree with the idea that NDSU doesn't want to move up. Where can they go which fits with the university? Mountain West? Maybe. I also remember a very old interview which said that the former Minnesota Gopher coach Glenn Mason basically created NDSU. He ignored the home-grown talent and NDSU reaped the rewards...
NDSU started a NIL collective in 2023 and SDSU started their collective in 2024, because both schools realized they cannot afford 6 to 7 digit NIL deals on their own, both schools had no choice to do this, or completely lose their roster and coaching staff every 1 to 2 years.
It's pronounced "Bizon". I'd have hoped a decade and a half of success would have solved this, but I guess not. They talk about this on literally every national broadcast.
NDSU has an amazing program, but they dont belong in FCS. Outside of the MVFC and Big Sky, the FCS division has become much weaker with the departure of most of the top East Coast schools.
Great content but your comment about their completion has left. You do realize JMU and Sam Houston only beat NDSU 1 time each and both teams thought they rules the FCS before they left. But obviously they were wrong because who's won the most Fcs championships. The Reason they keep winning is the "culture" they are a family. You never see arguments between players during games. They really care about each other.
The Big Sky Conference is trying to match the MVC. Montana State got close save for 2 massive errors this game. Georgia Southern, Appalachian State and JMU all left division 1 after success. NDSU is probably smart to stay at where they are? Where would they go? Mountain West? They could compete there. AAC or MAC? Could compete there too. But this dominance will end. Look at GS, AS and JMU now? If the Fargo Dome is full and it is best to stay put. The Big Sky is coming for you MVC. What fun yes?😊

How come the Bison aren't in the FBS yet? I mean seriously, these guys (and South Dakota State for that matter too) are good enough to compete with the big boys! If JMU can do it, then North Dakota State can too.

Anybody who watched Monday's game can see why. They can pass just fine. They beat a #11 ranked Iowa team and the defending Big 12 champs. There's a reason FBS schools won't schedule them anymore. If you ever go to a game in Fargo just remember to pronounce it Bizon not Bison
why do they mispronounce it?
I don't see how its possible to have ever heard of this team and not have heard how to pronounce it.
@@greenwave819 We're pronouncing it correctly, everyone else is mispronouncing it.
@@greenwave819 I'm thinking it's pronounced correctly in states that actually *had* bison roaming around. Elsewhere people who have only read it on a page use /s/.
NDSU also has no FBS programs in its recruiting footprint. The program immediately above them in the upper midwest recruiting heirarchy is in the Big 12. The team two spots below them is the best program in the MAC (NIU)
You should talk about the new Fresno state head coach
Matt Entz head coach of Fresno State, Sean Lewis is the coach of San Diego State
Evaluation and development is key.
How do they keep on winning? 1). Good Coach 2). Good Talented Players 3). Good School 4). Good Chemistry 5). Good player development
Wheaties!😊
Good watch.
If the Ivy League ever gets serious about football, they have the resources to compete with the biggest FBS teams, let alone FCS
As a 4 or 5 star recruit I'd rather go to NDSU, start for 3 or even 4 years, win a Championship in 2 or 3 of those years then go to a school like Texas, Alabama or Ohio State.
Having those Championships would be absolutely awesome.
@admiraltiberius1989 now a days, 4 and 5 star recruits are looking for NIL money does the Fargo area have boosters like that?
The NDSU Bison or Minnesota Bison?😊They have big lineman on both defense and offense. Montana State made 2 massive errors which cost them the game!
Iowa western CC is also dominate in their class. also kids from the mid west not highly recruited.
Do Texas Tech transfer portal buying going in depth on some player and how they got some good players with there oil money
Speaking of Texas Tech...They scooped up NDSU's best defender but NDSU go one of their DB transfers in Jalon Peoples
They must pay very well
NDSU didn't even have an NIL collective until 2023 lol
NDSU started a NIL collective in 2023 and SDSU started their collective in 2024, because both schools realized they cannot afford 6 to 7 digit NIL deals on their own, both schools had no choice to do this, or completely lose their roster and coaching staff every 1 to 2 years.
It's pronounced "Bizon". I'd have hoped a decade and a half of success would have solved this, but I guess not. They talk about this on literally every national broadcast.
I truly believe NDSU would be a 7-win team in a P4 conference today. And who knows what they could become with a few years of P4 money
@@Jack51971 Bullshit. Back in 2007 NDSU beat the pants off of Central Michigan 44-14. Central Michigan went on to win the MAC that year.
@@MHDBisonFan 2007? Seriously....that is damn near 20 years ago. Some of the players on this year's team weren't even born back then!!! You better have something better than that to hang your hat on.
@@smithn.wesson495 You can't be that thicke. It proves the point of nearly 20 years of continued success that they can compete and do so at that level. With the additional 20+ scholarships they'd more than hold their own at the next level in a G5 conference. Try and keep up next ti.e before you type more nonsense.
How come the Bison aren't in the FBS yet? I mean seriously, these guys (and South Dakota State for that matter too) are good enough to compete with the big boys! If JMU can do it, then North Dakota State can too.
James Mad, Coastal Carolina to name a few. Teams have been consistently jumping for 10 years. As the big conferences steal from the smaller conferences, the smaller recruit from FCS. I would love to see the Bisons playing Boise State, Utah State, etc. The Mountain West is calling.
@@S.C.-wo8hq Now that Boise St and Utah St are potentially joining the Pac 12, now seems like a chance for the Bison to hop aboard the Mountain West train!
6:16: A couple of NFL teams would like to forget about Trey Lance!
It's in the agua
"I already told you I aint got no agua"
Either they step up to the Mountain West or i'm not impressed. Too many teams have made the jump to FBS for them to be still in FCS.
Entz was hired at Fresno State not San Diego State. He's the worst coach we had and I think he's going to be a bust at Fresno.
You're clueless. Entz won 2 nattys including the 1st 16-0 season since 1894
@@paidtourist6563 With Kleimans recruits. Just look at Lance if you need an example. Entz totally missed on his value and didn't use him. Care to guess how many receptions Lance had in Entz's last year at NDSU?
I wish him well in his future position.
They can recruit all the best players and everybody else in their division can only recruit players that ND State doesn't want.
Everybody buying in. No bs
Coach Bohl is almost a dead ringer for Terry Francona.
Oh my God were so far away from everything, yet Pac 12 teams plays East Coast teams WTF
When will they jump up to FBS screw this if I ever become the head coach there I’m taking NDSU to FBS and winning a National championship
They need an invite first
You need to get informed. We have to be invited.
Get them an invite. I guarantee they will go.
🤔🤔 Would the NCAA allow NDSU to move up to the higher division with a football stadium that only holds what 20,000? I think they have some rules about stadium size?🤔 Yes? No?🤔
@@Jack51971 NDSU and the Dome seating capacity are just fine. Would it be nice to have more seating capacity? Absolutely. But the Dome meets the requirements
If you want a guaranteed ring, go to NDSU… my lord lol
Come pull up to the FBS stop beating up on them FCS schools
Perhaps you might want to look at their record against FBS teams? They don't want to play NDSU in an exhibition game cuz they'll probably get the butt wooped..
@ that’s better.. my point exactly. They dominated FCS now Dominate FBS
They get the best no stars.. this league us all about development, and nil should set most of these guys up since there years in fcs doesnt count towards eligibility... Its like practice squad tryin to make varsity
@@DevinHoyt Please read up on the collegiate athletics rules regarding eligibility. They do count regardless of if FBS,FCS DII OR DIII. Good lord some of these comments are ridiculous.
@MHDBisonFan does the fcs not count as the new rule? I would have assumed they were included .. that's dumb they should be.
Simple. Winners win.
what 🤯🤯🤯
ND has a great governor, Kristy Noem. Except for publicly admitting to killing her dog. This toughness leads to great football programs. We all are ND!
@@messagetous You do realize she was the governor of SOUTH DAKOTA not North Dakota and she is a great governor and will be great in Trump's administration.
Its bizon
It's pronounced Bizen.
i love all dakotas even if north dakota winning it all !!!! the rabbits will be back in contention again!!!!
If we could ever get UND to get with the program.
@@chrisbg99 i watched UND play iowa state they held there own for while this year, UND an the COYOTs are about the same playing levels where, the bison an rabbits are above an beyond them!!
@outofrhythmfantasysports SDSU's entire team was just emptied, so, no, they won't.
@@michaelrudolph7003A lot of their roster is staying in Brookings and seems like they are getting a decent amount of transfers and recruits still
@@michaelrudolph7003 so your saying that the rabbits wont be a playoff team again for 2025??
They should move up.
Need an invite first
What dont you understand.
In the case of Mt State the answer would be with help from the refs.
BS. The only reason the game was as close as it was is because of a phantom defensive holding call in the endzone on the same play that their TE had a linebacker in a bear hug.
Carson got hurt and it ruined him dude was dog before getting hurt
Correct, he was on his way to NFL MVP with the Eagles when he had a severe leg injury.
Means CU won!
Think about how many players they've had go to the NFL. Why would you go to a bigger school? So you can have more competition for your position. Maybe somebody else better known gets the nod instead of you. If your really as good as they say or you think you are..Come to NDSU And then your next stop will be the NFL.
Didn't know
Put them in FBS and SEE HOW GOOD THEY ARE THEN!!
They would be fine but the dominance would end.
They are 9-5 playing FBS programs. They beat Iowa at home in 2016 the year after they were in the Rose Bowl.
You can’t just put them in. Need invite.
They play Youngstown state, that use be a CC, nothing special about NDSU... They make their Qb's run, try that against Bama or UGA..... until then, keep playing technical colleges and acting tough haha As someone who played for UGA i think they are a joke!!! They lost to a terrible CO team, and if not for covid they would have played Oregon. play a real team and you all wont be the college football joke.
You are wrong. What makes NDSU tough is the size of the offensive and defensive line😊
Remember that division I schools get 22 more scholarships and have zillions more in their football program budgets. They would elevate their program much higher if given those advantages, plus they are 9-5 beating FBS teams. You sound jealous.
They have three QBs currently in the NFL and the one who started this run had a camp invite. Their current QB has a 70% completion rate and is also getting NFL looks. Anybody who watched Monday's game can see why. They can pass just fine. They beat a #11 ranked Iowa team and the defending Big 12 champs. There's a reason FBS schools won't schedule them anymore. How about you tell Kirby to put them on the schedule, after all if he's not afraid there's no reason not to. But we both know Kirby only schedules FCS teams from the cupcake conferences.
Wku, mtsu, south alabama, troy, ulm, kennesaw state, sam houston, fau, fiu, ect... need dropped to FCS and NDSU, SDSU, Montana, and Montana State need to go FBS.
NDSU: 🗿🦬🟡🟢🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
All of us other FCS fans: 🤬🤬🥲😭😭💀💀
Anybody who thinks this team could compete in FBS is crazy.
They would become a 6-6 team maybe 7-5. Logically.
Then how would you explain their 6-2 record vs FBS teams over the past decade+ (and 9-5 overall). They were one play away from beating Colorado this season. And if it wasn't for Heisman winner Travis Hunter, the Bison would have beat the Buffs as well.
@@Jack519716-6 isn't a bad start for a team's first season in FBS, they can get better from there
Anybody who thinks they couldn't compete in FBS knows nothing about college football. No they wouldn't be challenging Ohio State, but they would compete for any of the G5/6 conference titles.
