    Wow! I knew my 2 yr old 12 lb rescue Pomsky was different than any dog I'd had before, but your video helped me see he's normal for himself. I love how wicked smart he is, and the aggression he was allowed to have by whomever, is significantly better with a quiet home, lotsa exercise, and calm pets. Oh yeah, and "No Bite Mommy" jail time-outs. LOL

      They're not lap dogs? My husband calls ours my 40+ lbs lap dog. She jumps on the couch and then let's me know that I'd better get my duppa over there so she can cuddle. Cuddle as in plop her 40+ lbs self right on top of me.

    Thank you for this video. I've had a Malamute, a small Eskimo and still have a Pomeranian. I was applying to adopt this incredibly beautiful male Pomsky puppy on Petfinder. He is Peach colored with blue eyes. Magical fox dog! Woweee! But I watched your video, and I ended up changing my mind. If I were younger and had more energy, I'd get one. But I'm a little older now and realized that I just want a calm, mellow lap dog companion more anything. Luckily that puppy has gotten over 10 applications for adoption, so I'm sure he will get a good home. I'm sad, but a bit relieved. Appreciate the public service you are doing here.

      Thanks for the thanks. There was very little meaningful content when we were looking at getting a Pomsky, aside from thousands of pictures of cute Pomsky puppies. We had a rude awakening when Beedi showed up. She's 3 now. Still a lot of energy and still requires lots of walks, but a lot more manageable than when she was 8 weeks-old.

    As a first time fur dad, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into lol. My Pomsky has been a nightmare at times, but I’m not gonna lie, I’m obsessed with him and although I wouldn’t say I wouldn’t have him any other way … I love him now, so it’s too late … but not sure I would have gotten him if I knew everything beforehand lol

    Awesome vid! Owning a Pomsky has been one of the best choices in my life, HOWEVER it can be a ton of work if you underestimate their need to be mentally stimulated- I believe this was mentioned in a prior video. My furbaby is 6 mos, super sweet but it's terrifying how smart she is...I call her my escaped military pup/experiment. They NEED puzzles, etc...don't be surprised if you have to start off at intermediate level. If you are serious and have the time and patience, a Pomsky can bring so much joy and laughter to your home.

      Have you seen that YT video where the woman has developed a gadget that goes on the floor and literally allows her dog to speak WORDS to her?
      The (lab) retriever literally knows how to pick the correct color to tap to tell her what’s on his mind.
      Not surprisingly, it’s often “go walk”
      I guess us humans underestimate our dog’s intelligence.

    We get our two pomskies the SuperChewer Barkbox. They love it and await the box every month. They love getting the new toys, treats, and bones. They hardly ever destroy the toys and if they do barkbox will replace it no matter how long you have had it. Love my pomskies. They love the toys so much. They both know some words and they tilt their heads to words like walk, treat, bone, ride, and many more words. They shed so much which is horrible when you wanna wear black or dark colors.

    I enjoyed watching this video & it’s great that it’s informative of the pros & cons. 8 years ago my kids wanted a Pomsky as our second dog because the online pictures looked soooo cute (puppy pics). I did research but there wasn’t much info around but it lead me to discover the Finnish Lapphund breed. I researched that breed and it was the right fit for my family. Pleased we did as we now have two Lappies 8 & 2. Look similar to some Pomsky’s but are very very different.

    I have a Pomsky named Polaris, who is 17 months. I adopted her at 9 weeks. Your video is spot on. She is more clingy with me, and the dominant dog in our home. I have an Am. Staff. Terr and she keeps him in shape playing in the yard. She has her moments of wanting all of the attention, especially if I am giving attention to our other dog. Then she just wants to be alone for awhile when she is resting. My Am Staff Terr helps to tire her out, and calm her. She has been good with my 5 yr old, but they are both learning boundaries and respect. The destruction was something I was not prepared for. She did chew up her potty pads. I expected her to do some chewing, like most puppies do, but she takes it to the next level. I have two sofas that she has chewed the arm rests up, the corners, some of the cushions. I have given up on these sofas, and accept that I will have to buy new ones. My question is, do Ponskies grow out of this stage when they get older? My Am. Staff stopped chewing on everything at about 2 yrs old. I am hoping and wondering if she will grow out of her chewing up my furniture stage. I would like to be new sofas. Any info and advise would be apricated. Thanks

      2 1/2 seemed to be the age where Beedi matured a lot. She still has lots of energy and still needs long walks, but she is a lot more reasonable than when she was a puppy. Still very stubborn, but no longer destructive. You have another year to wait :)

    I absolutely love pomskies on top of huskies, Pomeranians and other dogs. I've heard that the Pomeranian husky mix can be extremely friendly and also clingy, which makes sense since they've inherited those traits from their purebred counterparts or parents. One of my online friends as a pomsky and I've heard that they can be a great substitute for people who prefss a smaller or mini version of a husky (Though I imagine it requires the right kinf of space at the same time). Pomsky's and Huskies may not necessarily be suited for apartment or condo life though, unless it's a particularly big space and you're in traveling distance with lots of parks

    Our pomsky is now 8 months old and weighs approximately 32 llbs (our breeder thought he would grow to be 25 lbs). Like you, we had an eskipom previously and there is definitely quite a difference. Alfie has a lot of energy only I find he is not so keen on morning walks. He prefers longer walks in early evening. He loves being in the woods and made out very well tenting with us this summer. He is certainly opinionated, stubborn and a picky eater. Before Alfie I thought all dogs love peanut butter...not Alfie. He is certainly not a lap dog but does have an affectionate side. We wouldn't trade him for anything!

    This is such a helpful and much appreciated clear-eyed tutorial. We are experienced Samoyed parents. It seems that Pompskies share many characteristics with Samoyeds. Except, we found our girl cuddly as a puppy but then as she matured, affectionate in the way our cat's are... A dignified affection on her terms. Maybe people don't associate dignity with Samoyeds but ours certainly carried herself that way. She was as destructive as a puppy and certainly as active throughout her life. With all that said, do you think that having had a Samoyed is good training for considering a Pomsky?

    • @JamesandLaurent
      @JamesandLaurent  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We're not Samoyed experts, but from the little we know, they indeed share a lot of similarities.

    • @brandie1937
      @brandie1937 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have had a pomsky, Cloud, for 5 years now (we got her when she was 8 months old) and my sister has a Samoyed named Bailey. The two dogs are markedly different!!! Cloud is half purepred Siberian husky and half purebred pomeranian. They have completely different temperaments but both can be destructive if lacking adequate stimulation/bored. Cloud chewed up every single electrical cord in our home at least once but that stopped when she was 1.5 years old. She is much smarter than Bailey, more affectionate and clingy, more hyperactive and much more animated/expressive. That being said, my sister laments to me often that she wished she had gotten Cloud instead 😂 Bailey is chill and not hyper at all... she is not easy to train and she loves to compulsively dig lol

    • @brandie1937
      @brandie1937 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cloud is so animated that multiple ppl have commented to me that she should be in a live action Disney movie. Every emotion that she has is expressed in her face/blue eyes. This is a relief and takes a lot of guesswork out but it can also be exhausting as it's like caring for another human being who can't speak, only motions and gestures intensely pretty much 24/7 except when they are asleep. She is only 26 lbs but she pulls on her leash like a much bigger dog. Tug of war is her favorite game and like the video says, toys dont survive any longer than a few hours. Like Bailey though they both eat/destroy their beds

    ❤ Sounds like a full blown husky … just miniature. My daughter has a four year old female husky Princess. Her favorite toy lamb chop ( we buy on three times a year. . The first year my grandson and i walked for long walks. She sniffed for hours outside. She enjoys people watching. And snuggling comes upon her request… Tv calms her down she must have the best seat next to any tv. The best thing we did is crate training. It’s her safe quiet place… oh one year she did eat all the ornaments on her Christmas tree LolL! It took two Christmases for her to calm down and enjoy the Christmas tree. The energy is extreme!
    Thanks for educating on the Pomsky.
    My girl is a rescue. I got her from someone who got her from someone who got her from the pound.
    Please please think long and hard about any dog so they are not rehomed or dumped.

    We have a 2.5 yr old male Pomsky and an 11 yr old Pomeranian male. Both have lots of energy and play well together. We were alittle worried about the age difference but they really have become good friends. Our Pomsky was stubborn and a terror as a puppy but very friendly. As he is maturing his behavior has much improved, he is trained and gets into trouble less and less. His bond with my family has become stronger and he has much love to give.

    • @JamesandLaurent
      @JamesandLaurent  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Beedi is 3 1/2 now and has matured a lot as well. But still lots of energy and lots of walks required.

  • @tay13666
    @tay13666 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Pretty accurate. Our boy is named Teddy. He is just over 3 years old now. And almost 40 pounds. He got the pomeranian coat, meaning he has husky markings but is poofy like a pom. So yeah, lots of brushing. I do two or three partial brushings a week so it isn't too much of an ordeal for him.
    Even though he is almost 40 pounds, he still thinks he is a lap dog. He will climb up in the recliner with you and wiggle around until you make room for him. He also loves to lay on the chaise with someone.
    Thankfully he wasn't as energetic as your dog is. He did want plenty of play time in the back yard when he was younger but not so much anymore. He loves walks, but doesn't go far because he wants to stop and sniff everything. For an extended period of time. And then turf the grass in the area with all 4 paws.
    He wasn't too bad with trash, but he did love the wife's shoes when he was a pup. He would take those, and any bowls out through the doggy door to leave them outside.
    Oh, and he loves everyone. Always looking to make a new friend. And if I don't let him while we are out walking, he whines and cries. But if anyone asks to pet him, he eats it up. Leaning into it and just looking as adorable as possible so they won't quit. In the winter when it is cold and snowy, and in the summer when it is hot, he doesn't get a walk. Too stressful on him when it is 90+ and too stressful on me when it is below 35. So I take him for car rides. That way he gets the mental stimulation he needs as well as exercise running back and forth across the back seat hanging his head out the window.
    Just like huskies, you don't have too much trouble with them chewing if you don't let them get bored. You let them get bored and they will get destructive.

    I ride my bike with the dog. I ride and she runs. It gets her energy out. She will run 1 and occasionally 3 miles once or twice a week. And I do not mean she trots around. She runs! She only stops to wait for me. The rest of her energy is exerted in the back yard fence. She is also cuddly. She is not stubborn like some say huskies are. Her biggest problem is being too excited when meeting new people or dogs. It is like she is frantic to get to them.

    My husband and I when we were younger we had three huskies, we did a lot of sport with them today, at over sixty years old, I fell for a pomsky thinking that its size would be more in line with our age, in fact this cute three month old thing is an electric battery ⚡ and it is sometimes exhausting, in fact I am surprised to see how much she looks like a husky by her behavior, (to the point of going to bury an ear pig that she couldn't finish), we'll have to adapt 😅 that being so, we love it 😍 but I really underestimated the pomsky, thank you for your videos on the pomsky it's very instructive

    Pomskys are half husky. Huskies have wolf in them. Therefore Pomskys have wolf in them. You have to set up a "pack order" when you bring your Pomskys home. There has to be an Alfa male and or female who is the boss. I have a Husky/Siberian Spitz and he looks like a mini husky. I trained her to pull a wagon for enrichment and exercise. She doesn't pull musch or often anymore due to her being in her 13th year. She was born in my living room. She is my soul friend. She has saved me from attack twice.

      Huskies don't have wolf in them. They are completely domesticated dogs. In fact, there are many other dog breeds that are far more related to a wolf than huskies, including malamutes and GSD. I have 2 huskies and people always seem to ask if they are wolves. The thing is that they don't even look like wolves. They are was too small, they are not that leggy like a wolf, and their heads are way too small. Their personalities are stubborn, but they are completely domestic and if you are ever around wolves or wolf dogs you will notice their behaviors are extremely different.

Day after Christmas out of the blue it attacked my sister in law and tore up her hand and was trying to bite her legs even though she was no where near his toys. It just wouldn’t stop biting her. I breed pomskys. Have bred them for 7 years. The big difference is where you get your pomsky. Large breeders with many dogs tend to result in pomskys with behavior problems and lack of cuddling. I am a small breeder and my puppies grow up in a house with a family and other dogs teaching them l, us loving on them til they go to their forever home at 8 weeks. My clients tell me all the time ...best dog I have ever had. I'm convinced the early interaction and love a pomsky gets before 8 weeks old has a huge impact on their temperament and behavior. The only thing I agree with is that they do shed...alot.

    • @JamesandLaurent

    @daphinehanshaw3391 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    We have had Melina Filomena Panzera, our Pomsky, for almost a year. She is like the video says, energetic, can be destructive and very smart. She LOVES TO PLAY and will follow you around bumping your legs with her toys.
    She is good natured with other dogs for the most-part. Now and then she meets a dog she doesn't care for but that is rare. She uses pee pads like she was born knowing what they are and how to use them.
    We do kennel her when we are at work. About $5-600 worth in losses around the house inspired me to get her a NICE BIG CRATE. We have a blanket covering the back half of it so it doesn't feel like a cage. She has enough room for a blanket to lay down, toys and chews, a small bowl with some water that rests on one corner of the pee pad. The joke is that it is her Apartment. She loves it. She goes in there to lay down and chew or retrieve a toy and then hangs out.
    We NEVER use the crate as punishment and she is most agreeable about it. She often tears up the pee pad in the back of the crate, but not the pads we keep on the floor in a corner for "uh-oh!" moments.
    She is pals with Jynxy, our cat. But she does get a little carried away at times and we have to call her off the cat. But seriously, we joke they are girlfriends. You should see them walking side by side, shoulder to shoulder through the house giving each other loving side glances. Smh. Funny girls.
    I find that through play she tends to be much more cuddly than she is when we are not playing. I rather appreciate that she doesn't want to be on top of me all day every day. There is no lack of affection from her however.
    We keep her hair clipped down to just above the undercoat. She overheats very easily. She will just be sitting there, at night, the house is calm and quiet and she is panting. When we keep her hair clipped she doesn't do that at all. In fact she still lays on the cold hardwood floor during the North Eastern winter with her belly pressed to the floor even with a fresh grooming.
    She is a joy. She is sweet, funny, friendly, social, intelligent, peaceful, a talker times but not a barker. Thank the gods for that. She definitely knows her her true guardian is, but does not leave anyone out. She spreads her affection around evenly.
    MUSH MUSH!!!! She loves to dig in and pull. We work with her to know how to behave on a leash in some situations, but really the pulling when we take her out to the field to relieve herself isn't such an issue. It is in her nature and we don't advocate taking away all of their natural tendencies to suit us. My philosophy is, "just be you girl". And her philosophy seems to be, "if you're not first, you're last!". haha
    When I don't want to be pulled I keep her leash very short and have her walk next to me. It takes a few minutes for her to figure out what I want in that moment but it gets better quickly and she is still learning.
    She uses her teeth to touch everything! She will quickly, but gently take your fingers in her teeth and move your hands. She has the wettest tongue! Golly, if you let her, she will give you a bath. It is rare she bites down at all and only when a toy is involved and it is an accident. She is working on being more careful.
    She is intelligent. She is energetic and this means socialization and outings are important. She loves to dig in the sand but doesn't seem to want to dig in the dirt so much. She LOVES to swim. She went right in the very first time she was near water. She is skilled as an otter. Ocean waves overtook her once and spooked her a little but she has no fear of them now.
    Her prey drive is pretty intense so it is unlikely we will be able to walk her off leash...ever. She runs for the joy of running. She has no idea where she is going or what is going on but she shoots off like a rocket. So...safety first. This one will always have to be leashed. Sorry girl.

    What people need to realize with Pomskies, they are mini Siberian Huskies, plain & simple. I've owned 6 Siberian Huskies throughout my life & there is absolutely 0, none, no difference at all between having a Husky or a Pomsky except for the size. Siberian Huskys have always been my favorite breed, now I have a Pomsky & see what they are, it's a win with me because I get to keep my shoulders and even though Pomskies still can jerk you off balance, it's still not as bad as a Husky jerk.

      You obviously KNOW your Siberian Huskies.
      They are, IMHO the most beautiful dog breed, hands down. Also, the MOST WILLFUL and crazy if not properly raised & trained from BEFORE WEANING!
      They REQUIRE the peace and quiet of NATURE and “uneventful” living. I realize NOW. 🙄
      There’s also A LOT of Husky/GSD mixed dogs out there which can result in a willful, intelligent, nervous, neurotic dog in just the least, or slightly ‘social’ or eventful environment…
      I adopted a 50% Husky/50% GSD mix. Our family just DID NOT understand the unique nature of this mix. We were wholly committed to her care & training - but still couldn’t overcome her dislike for loud noises, other dogs, cats, or CHILDREN in a suburban neighborhood!! 🤯😱😖😞. In a FOREST, this dog would have been the prized member of the pack. 🤦🏻Suffice it to say, it didn’t end well for any of us in kid-filled
      suburbia.😔😢

    I wish I had known all of these five things before I got my pomsky. I love him. He's wonderful but... For a 6-month-old he is destructive as all get out. He's very smart, but he's as stubborn and determined as the day is long. I'm 68 and he really gives me a go. Keeps me hopping all day long. My husband, my kids and my grandkids too, all have to help because he is almost more than one person can deal with. The other thing that I think should be on your list is that Huskies are very mouthy dogs, not meaning talkative although they can be but they use their mouths a lot and so he has a tendency to grab at things with his teeth. People should be aware of that because if you have small children around it can be very scary for them. I wouldn't trade him for the world, but I do wish I'd had a lot more information before I got him. Thank you for this video. It really proved that I'm not crazy for what I keep thinking I'm seeing!

    Pomskies can have a very sensitive stomach as well like Huskies. This was not something I was expecting since my 13 years old Pomeranian has a stomach of steel. My pom was super annoyed with the puppy when we brought him home since all he wanted to do was play and Pomeranians don't play, they like to be pampered. It's been two years so the Pomsky is less hyper now so they get along now.

      When Beedi was a puppy, we staggered our schedules, with one of us staying up late in the evening and the other one waking up early in the morning. Now that she's grown up, she sleeps full nights. We definitely walk Beedi more than one hour per day between the two of us. We take her to the dog park almost every day. That's a good way for her to burn energy. And we send her to day care one day a week.

      Try higher energy activities. Teach your dog how to play frizbee or find a playmate that is available a few times a week to get a good romp. Our Pomsky swims like a seal. She went right in the very first time she was near water and swam as if she had been doing it for years already. hahaha

    I have a male 7 mth old pompsky....paper is his thing.. litterally walked out on my back porch and walked back in and the dog had TP my kitchen..litterally grab the edge of the TP from the roller in the bathroom walked around the dinning room and the island in the kitchen...it was still attached to the roll! He also will pick tissue out of tissue boxes if they are in his area of reach. Toy destroyer..along with anything he deems as a toy (i have had pit puppies better behaved then him, lol). Also mine like water a lot he has his own pool or he will try and jump in my tub. Also first time ever having a long haired dog..the struggle is real brush everyday and by end of week I could stuff a pillow.

      Some Pomskies love water and others hate it. But they all love tissues and TP 😂😅😂.

    One of my Pomeranians was a very picky eater! He would rather not eat than eat dog food. He actually got sick and dehydrated often from going on a food strikes! It is extremely hard when your dog just won't eat!

    What do you think there with cats ?

    • @JamesandLaurent

      We don't know for sure. We don't have a cat 😒. Some Pomskies do great. Others don't. It depends.

    lMy son and his wife purchased a Pomsky. His name is Onyx. Onyx is so sweet and extremely smart. He knew right off who was the head of the household. My son was fussing at him because he grabbed a paper towel and begin to chew. He ran behind my legs and hid underneath my lounger. I was his protector. Love this little man.

      Yes, since they have had him, I just love this little man. He sees me and makes a mad dash as if he is so happy to see me. Then he plays for a few minutes. He loves to go to a large window I have and look outside. I swear he acts just like a baby.

      Yep. All the trouble of a Husky, but that you can more easily carry 😁.

    My Pomsky is 8 months old. He still has no leash manners I’ve tried putting in hours in and he has severe separation anxiety. I feel isolated.

    How aggressive are they to new people?

    • @JamesandLaurent
      @JamesandLaurent  ปีที่แล้ว

      Like everything with Pomskies, it depends. Beedi is great with new people. Most of the other Pomskies we know are the same. But we can't talk on behalf of every single Pomsky.

    We have 2 (litter mates) that are 16 weeks. I'm close to retiring and they have more energy than I could ever imagine. Call me crazy but love having them. They can find any piece of lint, paper, etc. I don't notice much hair because I use my Dyson daily and sometime twice. Love my fur babies. They just require more attention than any child ever could and I raised 4 of them.

      Haha! You are so brave to have two Pomsky puppies at the same time. It should start getting better in a couple of months. Good luck!
