    Thank you so much for showing how to measure for our pages! I’ve seen other video’s which skip that step, but your video helped me understand what to do so much more. You are an excellent teacher!

    Have you ever considered using Wonder Under fused to fabric and then fusing the fabric to the book? I do it all the time and it's easier to measure and makes for a clean application (no liquid adhesive bleed through). Easy to use the tip of the iron to push the fabric into the channels at the spine and absolutely no frayed edges to snip away (if you don't care for the look of frayed edges). Also, there is no dry time! It's ready to go instantly. P.S. Also works with paper.

    Like the comment before mine, I too have been creating JJ's for a very long time but I love to watch tutorials as you never know what little thing you will learn. Everyone has such amazing ideas and unique techniques. And in this case, I was reminded of unbleached cotton. I had heard of it but don't remember ever seeing it in my 60+ years lol. Do you have a video about how much space is needed between each signature on the template for sewing them in? I want to use a ruler for the first journal to have them spaced apart right. I will be doing two or three signatures. I have no idea how to know how wide a spine to have per signature. Like how wide for 5 signatures with 20 pages per signature etc. Thanks

    I'm truly enjoying this series! I'm new to this, so I'm trying to gather as much knowledge as possible before I start. Quick question, do you tea dye your pages first 'then' print (if you're going to)? Or, print first 'then' tea dye? I've made a bunch of mini albums in the past and want to try something new, I'm addicted to this already and I haven't even started yet!!! I bought some of your digital kits from Etsy yesterday and can't wait to begin this new journey! Thank you so much!!!

    • @NiktheBooksmith
      @NiktheBooksmith  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Melanie!
      So, if you have a laser printer, you can print first, then dye....if you have an inkjet, most of the time it is safest to dye first then print =)

    • @MelaniesShabbyChic
      @MelaniesShabbyChic 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nik the Booksmith
      Thank you so much Nik! I actually have both, (just black for the laser) but my laser printer is acting up 🙄, go figure!!! So I’ll dye first then print. My brother is a tech guy (don’t know how else to properly explain it) with his own company, and I’ve been waiting weeks for him to come and add the new router etc and re-set my printer!!! What’s that saying about the shoemakers children and their shoes?!?! That’s me! 😉😁

    I have been creating books for many years as well. After binding a particularly loaded junk journal recently it occurred to me, that because I've always done it somewhat the same way.... doesn't necessarily make it the right way....or the best way.
    I fill the signatures with all the goodies and pockets and what-have-you....THEN I bind them. So my question is ....is it best to bind it....THEN fill it...or fill it, then bind it.

    Just woke up and watched your vidéo !! It is so nice to see your way of making journals ...and we know how they will become great Master pieces ...
    Your signatures contain less pages than mines...you know me😉😁....If you put more pages , how do you cut them to have the exact same size when folded and sown in signature ? (Hum... difficult to ask my question in english...😊) do you trim the whole signature ?
    Well...I am going to try thiner books....😂
    TFS Nik...Have a great....night....

    sorry to pour tips on your videos but: use your pinky finger to smear the glue. use your other fingers to handle parts, it will keep everything cleaner. work towards the creases. look at the tutorials from the popup channel, he really nails the basics of folding and glueing paper. it helps even if you are not inclined to make pop-ups (although I think you would like). also: your dad would be proud (I am a paper engineer)

    I am so confused by your measuring. Your ruler says centimeters but you keep saying millimeters, should really just stick to inches and centimeters if you really need to be metric. No one is going to count 180 or 228 millimeters on their ruler. Also, ruler has an eighth or so at the end that isn't included in the measurement part. Zero is not the end of your ruler, I don't see you compensating for this. Your books are nice though.

      Really? Are for real? If you really know Nik then you know that she doesn't always get it perfect and takes joy in her randomness. If you're going to criticize her then please don't! Nik doesn't ask for payment for her lessons and ideas. And for the record: any artist or cook will count the metrics if that's what's called for! There are enough trolls that criticize. Please be nice and rise above it!
