  • Durga Jagadish is a specialist in Vernacular Architecture, which is "Architecture that is Artisanal -- "Of the Craft". She says, "Vernacular architecture is an exercise of love. It's not bound by the strict rules of rationality, industrialization and modernism. It's fanciful, whimsical and innovative with an inherent structure much like the temples of India. They are as structured as much as they are fruits of loving labour and passionate innovation. The vernacular can never die, as all you have to do is just delve into your past or the collective past of your people to find a treasure trove that's yours to re-interpret and reconnect with." About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Being a new topic to me, I found this informative, albeit a bit confusing at times. I enjoy what you are able to build at a minimalist level. In addition, it's nice to see that masonry, a dying trade in areas I'm familiar with, has such a large role within this style of architecture.
On a technical viewpoint, I'm sure that in editing tools there is an area that will edit the audio to filter out the 'buzz' sound found throughout the video. It's not a major distraction, merely something that will make the video present a little bit clearer.
    Thanks for the share!

no .it will be less than what we are following now

I am pretty sure it is cheaper because you are using less commercial materials like concrete and steel. And even if it were expensive, what is the problem in spending to preserve a form of architecture and craftsmanship. people these days are ready to spend extra to get a glass cladded building and then spend even more on air conditioning. I suppose vernacular architecture removes all that cost.

Is it not reflection of need for sustainablity ? For centures many villagers built their houses known in the past as use of appropriate technology or intermediate technology long before sustainablity criteria became a new concept more than 2 decades ago? They never head of architects but they had in bulit architectural thoughts.

They say its economical and local material willl be utilized, but their Estimation is more and they wont touch any project less than 60lakhs. Looking at the videos and website i enquired ,first call only they said if your budget is 60lakhs+ ,will take up otherwise we dont.60Lakhs is not economical its just trend they are creating to make business.
