Hello Vadim! Want to ask you if you sell some of the computers you get for reviewing them? I’m a father of two and photographer, videographer in SoCal, San Diego and Baja. A few weeks ago I went to document an event at Valle de Guadalupe, gorgeous place but, I got jacked by a cartel band and they stole all my bags with my most important equipment (cameras, lenses and my macbook pro) it’s a serious hit since my insurance wont cover for all this in Baja. I had to give my assignments to fellow producers and act as an spectator/producer and pay for what I could’ve done… so, I need to buy a computer and everything else again but times have been hard after covid. And, I'm running 8gb of RAM and tons of other things open at the same time. Once I have that Hollywood or Netflix contract for making a film, I'll upgrade. 🙂
My girlfriend needs a new computer for our businesses, banking & bookkeeping and she was looking at a new Mac mini M4 but if you add in the cost of a Touch ID keyboard, trackpad, and a basic 4K monitor then it’s the same as just getting the iMac 🖥 so hopefully she doesn’t see my comment but she has her office all decked out in purple and gold so I ordered her the purple iMac with nano texture glass as an early Christmas present. Hopefully she doesn’t find it hidden in our spare bedroom closet LOL. I wanted to wait until she had 2 free days in a row to set it up but after this I think I’ll give it to her tomorrow just so I can test it out too!! LOL
We want a full comparasion between all base models of Apple silicon Macs in terms of SSD speed. Is it just me or the base M1 8/256 GB is faster than even the latest M4 16/256 GB even with double the RAM, double the CPU performance and with 2*128GB NANDs just like the M1 and M3 base models. At least in terms of write speed, read speeds at almost the same.
That's because they are. No-one quite knows why. What is clear, is I think M2 (?) was slower with 256 Gb SSD because of the way the SSD was connected to the bus. The smaller capacity had fewer data lines limiting bandwidth. Once you went up to 512 or 1 Tb, then the SSD got the full bus bandwidth, and therefore maximum performance. Seems Apple fixed this problem in the M3 and M4 so all capacities get maximum bandwidth.
I'm a graphic designer, still working on the 27" 2020 iMac (Intel). It's time to upgrade and while I was initially pumped about the M4 Pro Mac mini, buying a new monitor is a dealbreaker, especially when there is no monitor like the 5K one I'm currently using. Apple's monitors are way too expensive. So my biggest question was: is the new iMac "pro enough" to handle all my needs. Thanks for answering! Going back to 24" will be weird but the M4 with 24 GB of RAM will be worth it!
I think the answer is it would more than handle. as an example I had I have an M1 MacBook Pro Max that I bought new last year has 64 gig of memory and a terabyte. I got it for this insane deal at 2299 at Arama new just crazy. I mean I don’t know man I mean I think on that M4 chip with 16 gig you probably be fine but it just depends on what you’re doing. if you think you’re gonna keep that long-term, then I’d maybe go for the 32 gig but it just depends and I mean the nice thing about a desktop is that you can get external storage you don’t need to have the storage be that large if it’s your desktop so anyways, I’m just curious what you do because I think this machine would do more than what you need
ArtIsRight did a comparison of M4 vs. all previous gen., and M4 is the slowest of them all in some real world tests. Quite disappointing. This might explain why no-one is showing the iMac M4 doing anything serious, because it would be slow as hell. Even the SSD is extremely slow at only 2000 Mb/sec. M4 Pro SSD perf is at the expected 5000 Mb/sec level, same as M1/M2/M3.
Personally I am going with „base” 4 ports version with 16gigs. I can see it not being sufficient in some 3-4 years, but seriously around that time, I will probably upgrade the setup. I can’t see a reason for upgrading RAM, when GPU is caped at M4. IMac is simply not meant to up-spec it, in my opinion, but the value in base is just great. My only problem is if I wan’t nano texture or not and no shop in my country is having them to compare. But I think, I might try to go with the standard and return if reflections will be a problem.

Good vid, I agree with you. I was just wanting to get a monitor for my MacBook Pro M1 chip. A good monitor is about $450 so I’ve decided to trade in my MacBook Pro m1 for the iMac m4 chip. I might as well get this future proof computer which I always come back to my desk to do serious work anyway. Plus, the iMac has the best display anyways. Yeah the iMac m4 is a better deal than the Mini with a good display = about the same price. My Brand ther has an old intel iMac and it is still working excellently for over 8 years. He too will be upgrading to the M4 chip
One thing people don’t consider is the number of years left you will get Apple security updates. Even if you get a great price for an old Mac, you have to consider years left of security updates. The M4 chip is amazing. I took a 27” IMac apart to add an SSD. I said never again. I had to take everything out of the case. Very dangerous to break something by accident.
Yes, it was a terrible unboxing...this guy is a pro and he could have been better prepared with the unboxing...he should have reshot the opening...the rest of the video was excellent...knowing those BMs is a big incentive to make the plunge and buy the new M4...my current M1 I will keep and put in another room...
As very tempting as the M4 iMac is I will stick with my M3 iMac with 16/512 I purchased about four months ago as it is satisfying all my current needs.
Glad you are still making videos however I am an editor and need a big screen so because of these smaller screens I want to keep my 27” and idk I don’t hear anyone else saying that
Thank you for putting that in your video of the two external displays, no one was explaining that and that's a huge deal from back in 27 inch iMac when you can run to external displays once again thank you for putting that out there
Iv got the 27” iMac which is great screen wise and iv got a 32” screen too. I honestly hope when they finally bring out a proper iMac it’s 32”. I think a wider screen would be more useful. I hope the proper macs look more professional too.
Well, this is a turn up for the books, not too long ago when the first Apple silicon computers were announced, we all thought how incredible they were and they were with the M1, but almost all TH-camrs were critical of Apple for not making a 27 or 30 inch monitor to go with it, now in 2024 it’s a different story now the screen that was touched too small in 2021 is now big enough and the machine itself is now fast enough to do professional work on, does this mean that you guys know something we don’t and that is we all have to settle on a 24 inch rather than the theoretical 30 inch. Now admittedly, I’m not a professional power user, and I do have the Current M1 24 inch iMac, and it has been absolutely incredible, beautiful machine, has been absolutely faultless from day one and I expect it will continue to be in a long time after. I just thought that maybe the same TH-camrs would’ve been able to give Apple a bit of a nudge about a big screen, and if they were influential enough Apple just may have listened and then we would’ve all benefit.
My iMac 5K with i7 4790 and M295X GPU is awesome. They definitely need to produce an iMac with M4 Max. Seems now they want you to buy a Studio and Cinema display.
I feel like MaxTech made the wrong choices in review order here. People want to know binned vs unbinned and does the 14 still thermal throttle max chips in the Macbook Pros
Would eventually love to see a review comparison of 14" M1 Pro vs M4 14" base. Obviously the M4 is going to be better. But just seeing the in between of them both.
LOL no it isn't. Check out ArtIsRight. He did some real world tests, and M4 is the slowest of all the Mx series. SSD benched at 2000 Mb/sec. It only beat M1 a few times because for some reason the M1 couldn't complete some of the tests, but otherwise M4 was the slowest of them all. That doesn't bode well for the M4 iMac because there is no option to get the M4 Pro that doesn't have any of these issues. Even the base M4 Pro is faster than you'd think. That makes the base M4 look like it has a problem.
Thanks for the video 🙏 I want to see the iMac vs Mini 👍 Even though they “should” be very similar in performance. I’m on the fence on getting the iMac or the Mini. I’m sure there are some very nice monitors available and maybe save a little money 🤔
I have never heard the fans in my iMac M1, do you hear the fans when pushing the M4 iMac? Would seem that you would but you seem to say the older M1 kicked up more, maybe do a noise comparison video. Also maybe a iMac vs Mac Mini Pro.
Hi , Great video , I have been waiting for you to do just this video with these two imac . But I still have one question. About two years ago I purchased my first iMac ( M1 ) and I have to say I love it but occasionally when I'm doing short video drone editing it does struggle . My question is long-term am I better off purchasing the New mac mini M4 and a separate screen ( will the performance be better than the new M4 imac ) and can you do a sound test on the new mini please . I don't need it to play music on a serious level but would still be interested to know what it's like .. much appreciated ... any feedback would be much appreciated .... ❤ ❤
ArtIsRight did that test, with M4 and M4 Pro vs. a bunch of earlier gen M1/2/3 of different specs. Worth checking out. Basically, M4 is LESS THAN HALF the performance of M4 Pro, and in a couple of tests was the slowest of them all. M4 Pro is the only real option (for base).
@@paradoxicalcat7173 yep checked out his videos and they far more thorough. And today he posted the M4 Pro with 14 cores vs the M4 Pro with 12 cores and a lot of the tests actually make a difference, so I'm definitely getting the 14 core chip. Overall super impressed with this gen. I think the M4 being a lot less powerful than the Pro/Max chips makes a lot of sense. People like my parents just aren't going to use that power, even the M1 would suit them.
Thanks for the vid Max, (or Vadeem I can't tell) I'm surprised you didn't upgrade ram, 16 gigs is not enough for your workload, it's not enough for mine that's for sure My only complaint, the chin is useless, I haven't a clue why the MB isn't behind the stand, vertical and centered where it would disappear, use the chin for speakers pointing at my face instead of at my desk, or, keep speakers pointing at desk and use chin for monitor real estate, or just that much smaller in size with view the same
Maxtech, did your 2021 iMac have One fan, or TWO? The entry level 2021 iMac (even with 16GB Ram, I believe) only had one fan, and maybe this was why your machine’s fan was ready to take off!
What workload do you have? Base M4 Pro is faster than it looks, but worth upgrading to get 20 GPU cores, becuse many workloads appear to scale linearly, so you'd get 25% better performance. In some tests it works out slightly faster than this.
Came here for this too. I can just look at benchmark numbers online. Hoping they compare the new chips to the M1 a bit more because that's what I'm upgrading from.
Deliberately avoided because the M4 is embarassingly slow. It slower than the whole Mx line-up. Even SSD is the slowest at 2000 Mb/sec. That makes this iMac M4 slow. The base spec to get is M4 Pro, regardless of your workload, because there actually appears to be something wrong with the M4.
I will never understand how they decided the chin should be a different color than the rest of the bezel. Or even more bizarre why they put that black bezel between the white bezel and the screen.
Even though I love the iMac, iMacs are never a great value. You pay for the monitor and the computer and once the processor is outdated, it is useless as a monitor as it does not support being used as a monitor.
So what. For the money it costs, you just ditch it and buy brand new in 4-5 years? You think Studio Display or Mac Mini will not deteriorate with time? Actually, you may find than in 2 years Apple releases more modern ASD with 120Hz and you just bought 60Hz, brother. Consider how much more money you will spend on mini + display and continues upgrades. IMac is what it is. I think as a base desktop setup it’s a great value this year with 16gb of RAM, but I wouldn’t up the spec on that thing, since chip is caped at base M4.
@ if that’s the philosophy you believe in, more power to you. I don’t believe it’s right to throw away a perfectly fine monitor every time you need to upgrade the CPU. That’s a lot of avoidable e-waste that’s being generated.
I don't see anything "pro" about it, 23.5 inches 60hz, and 16GB of ram is basic consumer. They made a device here that fits the everyday user, plug in, turn on, go. M4 chip not even needed here.
If this was bezellwss and even just 90 hz it would be an instant but from me. 23 inches is tiny. And there’s ssooooooo much space on the face at the very least that entire bottom section should just be a big speaker
Agree. Everyone is so fond of Apple these days. Any rational change is seen as a blessing from God. Apple doesn't receive the same criticism other companies do.

QUESTION: I have never heard anyone analyze the actual APU count inside each GPU core on the M series chips. I am sure there must be a difference between GPUs on each chip. Can you do a deep dive comparison on the GPU section between the M1 and M4 chips? On nVidia GPU processors the big selling feature is the CUDA core count. The equivalent on the M series would be the APU count. I have found on one reddit post that the M1 has 128 arithmetic units” or 128 APUs per GPU core. I haven’t found the APU count per core for the M4 chips. Also…what frequencies do they run at? THANKS!!
Disappointing hard drive but it's not intended as a pro machine. The internal hard drive is slow and you can't boot from a faster external. The system software benefits from a fast main hard drive.
With the 10 core CPU and 32 GB of unified memory, that iMac is a little powerhouse. Unless you were doing work that needs a much more powerful GPU, it can handle most of what anyone will throw at it.
I am not gonna buy since I have 2 macbooks but at least they should have also included 512 GB SSD, if I needed an iMac I would definitely at least need 512 GB, if I don't then I will go for macbook air with 256 gb since I know I am gonna use it casually. They need to introduce Pro chip iMac near in the future, hopefully within 3 years so I will for sure upgrade to iMac. Oh, also bring 27inch iMac as well, I need larger screen size as well.
I'll be getting my new Orange iMac M4 tomorrow; it will have 32GB RAM and a 1TB drive. I'm upgrading from a mid-2017 build 21.5" Retina G4 iMac with 16GB RAM and 1TB Fusion drive. I'm looking forward to the higher speed, and the slightly larger screen for viewing my family tree on Ancestry and Family Tree Maker. I'll be using Migration Assistant to transfer my data from my old to new system via my TimeMachine backup drive.

Thank you for putting that in your video of the two external displays, no one was explaining that and that's a huge deal from back in 27 inch iMac when you can run to external displays once again thank you for putting that out there
They need an M4 Pro chip in a 27" design and I'd buy it if the price was right.
Apple do large screens - you just need to pay $4k for it.
nice but should be 27"inch
I still hope Apple release a 27”+ iMac Pro. A Mini with display is ok but an all-in-one is just so clean and convenient. Many are asking for it.
My iMac 5K with i7 4790 and M295X GPU is awesome. They definitely need to produce an iMac with M4 Max. Seems now they want you to buy a Studio and Cinema display.
Yellow is great
I feel like MaxTech made the wrong choices in review order here. People want to know binned vs unbinned and does the 14 still thermal throttle max chips in the Macbook Pros
And here he is comparing Imac
Yes it does. He tests that in his MBP video.
Doesn't the M1 Pro GPU Metal score..score higher than the M4 base gpu?
Thank you - very informative review
Many people don’t know that retina pixels are so small that you cannot see them. This makes this monitor invisible.😮
So you can add additional external displays now? Can you use the new iMac display as an external display for a laptop?
would be interesting to see how logic pro performs
Think it would be good for 3D animation and modeling?
They must be working on an iMac 27" with m4 max or ultra. THEY MUST!
Finally you review the "real thing" instead of screen capture or apple's video
Still waiting for the MBP testing and reviews... especially M4 Pro vs M4 Max and M4 Max binned vs unbinned & 14" vs 16"
Is the new iMac M4 🖥️ enough for running scetchup? Or do i need M4 MacBook Pro? 💻
Hey. Can we have a m4 mac mini vs m3 macbook pro comparison? With emphasis on pure performance.
Look at that Difference
Thanks for the video 🙏 I want to see the iMac vs Mini 👍 Even though they “should” be very similar in performance. I’m on the fence on getting the iMac or the Mini. I’m sure there are some very nice monitors available and maybe save a little money 🤔
I have never heard the fans in my iMac M1, do you hear the fans when pushing the M4 iMac? Would seem that you would but you seem to say the older M1 kicked up more, maybe do a noise comparison video. Also maybe a iMac vs Mac Mini Pro.
Please M4 Pro and M4 Max tear down.
They aren't allowed to dismantle review units. They must buy their own to do that.
Do you think It would be good for music production with 32 gb of ram?
If only I needed an iMac this would def be the year I buy my first one
Hi , Great video , I have been waiting for you to do just this video with these two imac . But I still have one question. About two years ago I purchased my first iMac ( M1 ) and I have to say I love it but occasionally when I'm doing short video drone editing it does struggle . My question is long-term am I better off purchasing the New mac mini M4 and a separate screen ( will the performance be better than the new M4 imac ) and can you do a sound test on the new mini please . I don't need it to play music on a serious level but would still be interested to know what it's like .. much appreciated ... any feedback would be much appreciated .... ❤ ❤
My biggest complaint is that I can’t get an iPad Mini in the same orange that the iMac comes in.
Was expecting more tests like Lightroom and Final Cut etc.
In this video he focused on perfecting the unboxing part.
@ yeah I skipped all of that
ArtIsRight did that test, with M4 and M4 Pro vs. a bunch of earlier gen M1/2/3 of different specs.
You forgot the SSD speed test. Did Apple request you not to demo the SSD read/write speeds?
I was wondering about that too.. I though I missed it somewhere/somehow.
M4 SSD perf is the slowest of all Mx series at 2000 Mb/sec. All other M4 Pro and higher bench at 5000 Mb/sec.
Thanks for the vid Max, (or Vadeem I can't tell)
I'm surprised you didn't upgrade ram, 16 gigs is not enough for your workload, it's not enough for mine that's for sure
My only complaint, the chin is useless, I haven't a clue why the MB isn't behind the stand, vertical and centered where it would disappear, use the chin for speakers pointing at my face instead of at my desk, or, keep speakers pointing at desk and use chin for monitor real estate, or just that much smaller in size with view the same
Maxtech, did your 2021 iMac have One fan, or TWO? The entry level 2021 iMac (even with 16GB Ram, I believe) only had one fan, and maybe this was why your machine’s fan was ready to take off!
Should I buy m4 pro 12 or 14 core?
What workload do you have? Base M4 Pro is faster than it looks, but worth upgrading to get 20 GPU cores, becuse many workloads appear to scale linearly, so you'd get 25% better performance. In some tests it works out slightly faster than this.
@ I’m casual user with some gaming. I want to have a macbook that can last at least for the next 5yrs.
Where are the Photoshop, Blender, and Resolve tests?
Came here for this too. I can just look at benchmark numbers online. Hoping they compare the new chips to the M1 a bit more because that's what I'm upgrading from.
I would like to see these as well and also difference in the 16 & 24 gb of RAM.
Can the Max mini M4 use the iMac M1 as a display and how to do? Thanks, Max
Like the Mac mini, the iMac needs a massive redesign : 21:9 ratio, oled, 120hz and no more chin.
Waiting your MacBook M4 Pro (24GB) 14 inch vs MacBook M4 Pro (24GB) 16 inch vs MacBook M4 Pro 16 inch 48GB RAM one before I decide to buy.
@@praveenpg you will generate exactly the same amount of waste, just in two turns, instead of one.
When is the new studio and display coming?
Why are we still using geek bench in 2024 for CPU test?
Please release the M4 Pro Macbook pro video soon 🤞
Sounds like a stupid question but given differences in bezel screen to edges etc in reality how much smaller is this than a 27inch intel?
Appreciate that it’s 4k vs 5k on the intel
Apple should bring back 27” iMac.
Yes …. But too small. Need 27“ or bigger
have you stopped doing logic tests?
I wanna see how it performs in games, both native and in Crossover or Whisky.
No config displayed! This is not Max Tech standard. I didn't know if you had the base model or one with upgraded chip.
I plan on getting this for my employees when I move to Vegas.
Trump Gold iMac, baby! Heck yeah. Fits right into Vegas.
@ actually it’ll be a couple of different colors except for pink and purple. Those two colors need not apply.
@@VJROMULUS Yeah they're too girly for me too.
I don't see anything "pro" about it, 23.5 inches 60hz, and 16GB of ram is basic consumer. They made a device here that fits the everyday user, plug in, turn on, go. M4 chip not even needed here.
But it’s Apple RAM, so equivalent
to 32 GB on Windows.
@@jansix4287 Still not considered a "pro level" machine, it would take more than just the ram.
Stop glazing bro, that is false
@@davidallen2211 Yeah, it needs macOS. That's what separates pro from trash.
If this was bezellwss and even just 90 hz it would be an instant but from me. 23 inches is tiny. And there’s ssooooooo much space on the face at the very least that entire bottom section should just be a big speaker
Nice video
Sorry dude but .... 16 GB ram in 2024 is not "Awsome" 😂 it's just normal
Agree. Everyone is so fond of Apple these days. Any rational change is seen as a blessing from God. Apple doesn't receive the same criticism other companies do.
@@elmarcentral agreed, a blessing from god is definitely not 8 more gbs of ram for the same 200 gbs of storage on base books.
Well on windows 16gb is low average on Apple the thing changes a lot, producing the hardware and software can
Be optimized and no need a lot of ram.
Because your pc windows so heavy for running only 8 even 16gb ram😂😂. Welcome to apple silicon with just only 8gb more enough for beginners😂😂
As an apple fanboy this is Disappointing I would go for the 2024 mac mini or MacBook pro
Actually you should really compare with the base model since it has 8c cpu and gpu
And I'm requesting it for past 4 to 5 videos
Would you recommend a iMac over Mac Mini? What are your thoughts?
Depends on your needs. The Mini you will be able to choose a better monitor than the one built in.
Realistically, you’ll use a worse monitor or a much more expensive monitor of roughly the same quality.
@@jansix4287 that’s the point. You get options with the Mini.
@@dougscott188 And mostly worse options. You also lose the option of getting a nice colorful All-In-One with all the peripherals included in one package. You should buy what makes you happy and that could well be the hassle-free experience of an iMac. 🖥️
Yes, Professional lowers, accountants, medics, marketers, consultants, financial market specialist, academics, all the professionals around the world that doesn´t need specific super intensive apps .
Let me buy Mouse and Trackpad together and I'll get it NOW xD
Working as a designer on an iMac would require the upgrade to the nano texture screen which isn’t a free option. I think I’ll keep my existing screen(s) and spend less on the new Mac mini with some external thunderbolt storage 😊
Awesome & Thanks :)
It would be great if it had an HDMI port to connect a gaming console
Waiting for your M4 to M4 Pro Mac Mini Comparison guys .... The Ultra Tiny Mini Size will surely be a screw up for the M4 Pro !!!
Oh, also bring 27inch iMac as well, I need larger screen size as well.
god damn, dude you can lift it up with one hand omfg
This thing desperately needs an M4 Pro option
I wish it had an oled 120hz refresh rate to fully utilize the m4 chip capabilities like gaming at high refresh rate😢😢😢
Better get a M4 Pro mac mini with a 27 inch 4K monitor
My uncle is a computer expert and he advises to buy a Pentium computer, because it can do Hyperthreading! 😮
24.5"? Its 23.5" Display...
He always wears his shirt one size too small lol
