I have this pit and it is worth every penny. It's the best cooker I have ever owned. Holds temp exceptionally well. Versatile and fun to cook on it different ways.
I have had this exact cooker for a couple years and like you said it is very well made. There is a lot of learning curve with using this thing in its various functions. It's unique design means it doesn't necessarily do a great job at any of its various capabilities. If you have a variety of cookers, this one probably wouldn't get used very often. As an example, I have tried using it as an offset to cook a pork butt but wasn't that satisfied with the results. The butt needs to be on the bottom grate (top is way too hot), and fire management is very tricky if you are used to using a normal offset. Damper tweaking is essential to get consistent temps and it's not forgiving. Because of the proximity of the cooking area to the firebox, you can only use small splits, which burn quickly so you'll be feeding it constantly. It is easy to spike the temps. Also, because the exhaust is at the top of the hood, the smoke isn't channeled to where the meat is like a smoke collector on an offset. It's hard to get decent smoke on a butt in this configuration inmo. It's a very nice cooker that is useful but it's not a miracle setup. I love LSG, though, and have several of them.
Thanks for the comment. I'm looking forward to putting this to the test soon. I did a big rack of beef back ribs over low-direct heat the nigh I shot this video and they turned out amazing. We'll see how it works as an offset.
Thanks for your integrity in your comment. I immediately wondered if this would work as an offset due to the exact points you made. Like the separate fire boxes for grilling steaks one side and more delicate proteins on the other. Looks well made for sure. But like most things that try to be a jack of all trades, it's usually a master of none. Don't get me wrong, I like it, just not as a smoker.
I nearly bought one and your thoughts echoed what I assumed it would be like.If it had a rotisserie I for sure would have had one and used for direct cooking only as I love the adjustable coal bed..LSG make excellent products and love mine.If you are struggling for space it’s a nice option but I have offsets and they can’t be beaten.
I have this grill. The best single steak I make I cook on this grill. I put 3 inch bone in ribeyes on the left chamber without any fire below. I put the heat source in the other chamber, making the grill an efficient and easy to use offset. I cook the ribeyes to 120 degrees. Then, I move the coals on the right side to high and literally finish the steaks to 130 degrees in the flames. I rest the steaks and then cut and serve. Best steaks I grill and I grill a lot of steaks.
Fantastic pit. We purchased this exact setup four years ago. Versatile to say the least. Try a CHUD/HILL STYLE COOK. ITS TRULY AMAZING. That burger video posting this more was also truly inspirational!
I have the built-in version of this cooker and absolutely love it. Easily my favorite of all my outdoor cookers. I've gotten to where I'm using this for 70%-80% of my cooks now. It has completely replaced all of my charcoal cookers (Weber Kettle, WSM, Pit Barrel). I'm in the process of cleaning those up and moving them to storage. This grill does everything they do just as well or better and has a ton more space to do it. I have some tips/ideas for you but I'm looking forward to seeing what you throw at this first.
I have that same grill as well. I love the Santa Maria style cook ability. Ive done ribs, brisket, and pork butt on it. Great smoke flavor! Cant wait to see more cook vids on it.

Beautiful unit. A question about burn in: I have always run a fire first to get rid of manufacturing stuff and then sprayed and ran another fire. I was concerned that spraying first could seal in the manufacturing stuff. Any comment?
Bang on correct Dave. I personally would get it raging hot to around 500f for about an hour minimum then let it cool. Then apply a high temp oil to the internals and wipe off any excess. Then run it to 425 for an hour. Let it cool. Once more with high temp oil (avocado oil works wonders just pour it into a pump sprayer) then do a couple more rounds spraying and wiping down just the grates and you will have a well seasoned grill that will wipe clean fairly easily. Basically, treat your grill like you would a good iron skillet.
What can you say about Lone Star Grillz Vertical Smoker and their Smoker Cabinet? Are they as good and same flavor profile as their offset stick burner?
So, I have never cooked on one of their insulated cabinet smokers, but I had their offset vertical and now own the offset cabinet and they produce the same results and the traditional horizontal offsets. They are offset using splits and the only real difference that I've noticed is the much smaller footprint.
Ask me this question after I have a few more cooks on both pits. This was only my 4th cook on the grill. I'll give my opinion, though. I can say, as a grill, this has the advantage of two adjustable charcoal grates.
Am I missing something? I see grilling options but how can you use this for cooking a brisket like you would on an offset? How can you evenly cook a brisket with the fire on one side. The heat transfer can’t be even. Since the “cold” side is so small one side of the brisket is going to be getting much hotter than the other. I have so many questions. It appears to me that it would be a great direct heat cooker with wood or charcoals but any other indirect smoking/cooking seems problematic. And for the price, you could get 3 different cookers for three different types of smoking/bbq/grilling that will do better jobs at what it was designed for, and save money. Some one prove me wrong I’m not trying to hate I just don’t see it.

I agree. In my mind it is a matter of how many grills you want to buy and how many you have room for. Or is there a particular type of cooking that you want to specialize in and you buy a cooker particular to that style of cooking
After years of trying in a regular oven and on the pizzastones etc on grills I finally splurged on an actual pizzaoven with professional refractory floor (on wood and gas) and man let me tell you, nothing beats it. Finally. But it is expensive, very hard to manoeuvre of course. That's the downside of the best tools for every job.
A brother i would like to request from you coming from Florida 3 packer briskets on your new cooker! Thanks
are you not supposed to have this notified as a promotional video.
I'm guessing you didn't see the "Includes Paid Promotion" at the beginning of the video? Take another look.
Just to save everyone from looking it up, it's $3400.00. Not unreasonable for hand crafted stainless steel, but that's a lot ofvmoney.
There are too many compromises. Just get a smoker and a separate grill.
What are the compromises?
🙂👍🥂
3700 dollars for this thing. Yikes!
Have you looked at any bbq prices lately?
You get what you pay for.
@@BallisticBBQ I am sure you are right about that! I have watched your channel for a long time. I have used your recipes on my Pit Barrel smoker. You have made me long for that sunterra Argentine grill. I think you and your channel are just great! I am sure this grill is top notch and cheers to those who can afford it. Sadly I can’t, nothing wrong with that but I am sure I am not alone in trying to justify almost 4k for a grill. Maybe not🤷♂️. Either way keep up the good work and thanks for doing what you do.
wow, sorry not that rich. nice though.
Way to exspensive man!,even to pricey for a pro earning à living with it.😢
It does everything but none of it well
