    Really cool series that hits the Dark Sun story beats. Can't wait to hear what is still to come

    I remember this module being my first introduction to Dark Sun, I was not so fortunate to survive, but it's cool to see other braving the Athasian wastes for the first time.

    You have to admit, the DM did a pretty good job roleplaying the thri-kreen with a mix of English and clicks/pops.

    Little tidbit I find interesting about gith, the longer the race has spend free of mindflayer domination, the more humanoid and less mutant monster their appearance has become, with the exception of the Athasian gith, the rampant slavery has caused them to keep their monsterous appearance

    • @logarium
      @logarium 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, Athasian gith still very much have a monstrous appearance. There's a whole mega-adventure that explores this, and the real reason why ("Black Spine") but it's not a part of this arc, unfortunately!

      In my head canon, it is the gith that sealed Athas from realmspace. It is to be the birthplace of the Mindflayers, and by sealing it off they break the cycle of Mindflayer empire being born. That is why the sun is artificially sunny. They mean to destroy them in their nursery.

    I am not a fan, of the ritual trial by combat, not being honored. And it going the way that it did. The half giant Rah should have died. That's just how it goes. The other players should not have been allowed to interfere. Should have been setup better so the elves could have stopped them. It didn't set well with me at all... I'm also curious as to why the DM handled the last bit of adventure so differently from the written content flip book... great content non the less! ❤👍

    • @logarium
      @logarium 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you Jeremy - appreciate your comments :). Yeah, the honourable approach went right out the window - it was interesting to see how quickly the characters abandoned that approach haha. As for the ending, I wanted to mix things up a bit and found that Jengi made a more interesting character as ambitious and power-hungry heir, as opposed to her original slightly rubbish herder. It just felt like a fun spin to take.

    • @wesleygoodwin798
      @wesleygoodwin798 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sorry, have to disagree Jeremy. The chieftain broke the rules of trial by combat first by throwing defiling magic.

    • @jenswunder72
      @jenswunder72 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Solo against a chieftain of a 300 elf tribe…I would have tried to discourage that trial by combat. It could work when the party does some research and gets two, three aces up their sleeves before the combat (like the poison). Also that ray of enfeeblement tipped the scales way too strong.
      Nitpicking aside, I enjoy the content. It really succeeds in evoking Athas!

      @@jenswunder72 i think they are newer players to PRG, or maybe more used to less grim settings, so the DM was kind to them, but yeah, they were cocky to think they just pick their champion and casually and with no preparation beat a elven chieftain just like that

    1:45:00 just my two cents, but this whole exchange was rough. There were a few too many lengthy pauses where things could have been more concise and the DM could have jumped in to move things along instead of staying in character.

    • @therealronbrand
      @therealronbrand 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Dude this is one of my favorite parts of the episode. I love that they just lean into the roleplaiyng and treat like a game not a show. Different strokes i guess.

    • @MrOhidunno
      @MrOhidunno 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@therealronbrand There's nothing wrong with leaning into the role playing and I agree, that is awesome. But the number of times in that exchange where things go in circles without even a little prompting from the GM out of character, or everyone is just sitting in silence trying to figure out what this Elf ruler wants could absolutely have been helped along a bit.

    • @therealronbrand
      @therealronbrand 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @@MrOhidunno I can see that but I liked seeing them come to the realsation that there's nothing they have that this guy wants - so they go with his daughter's approach. I liked seeing them stew lol. I don't want the Dm to tell me what approach to take so i was cool with seeing that here too. But like i say different strokes

    • @MrOhidunno
      @MrOhidunno 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@therealronbrandThere are ways of moving the narrative along without the DM directly telling the players what approach to take. That's great that you enjoyed what some might consider a slow build. But to me, it was monotonous and repetitive.

    • @logarium
      @logarium 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      @MrOhidunno thanks for your feedback on this - I really appreciate it. To me, this is the inevitable tension between what works as a game and what works as a stream. As DM, the players were immersed in and exploring their new characters so I didn't want to nudge it along (beyond the element about the chief's brother) but I can see that isn't going to land for every viewer - or even every group of players. That's totally fine 🙂. There's more of this kind of thing throughout the campaign and I pretty much always come down on the side of what works for the group in play. Thanks for watching, though, and sharing your thoughts!
