I like your positive look on this whole thing, which is something I think we all could use. I agree with your theory. You don’t have to use Genie at all and just enjoy being at Disney in general!
Thank you for acknowledging how hard this will be for large families to afford. We have 5 children. That would be an extra $105 for us just to get essential "fast passes" that use to be free!! It saddens me. Little by little the things Disney is taking away (dont get me started on the magical express!!) is making it harder to justify to my husband why we should spend that much money. We can not afford to pay for Genie+ just to get on the rides faster.
We were just there party of 7 including my toddler. To upgrade our tickets for all 4 days was over $500 -and sadly it wasn’t even worth it. DHS and Epcot there’s not enough rides to get your money’s worth and we still laid extra for some rides like Frozen. We did it because we’re not locals.
We are sadly going to be taking our last trip for the foreseeable future this summer and only because my kids already know, otherwise I would have cancelled. Disney isn’t what it once was

I agree. We've been going every year as a family since 1992 and became DVC members in 1994. My daughter is a Disney nut and is looking forward to take her two young daughters next year(?). However, she's having a difficult time convincing her husband since it costs so much nowadays even though we'll let her use our DVC membership. My wife and I have a trip planned for January. After that, we might be vacationing some place else. Can you imagine the trips you can enjoy with the money you spend at Disney World?
We agree with everything you have said about Genie. Love your positivity and honesty. This is a very expensive service for families. For Joe and I, the cost isn’t the issue. I think for us it’s the principle. Everything that was free now has a price tag on it. Still love Disney and will keep coming just won’t use the free or paid service.😊 Jen and Joe xo

It would be interesting to see you do this based on a list of rides going into a park instead of just walking around choosing rides with short wait times. Since you go all the time not wanting to wait makes sense but for those of us who only get one shot year at magic kingdom, skipping haunted mansion isn't a great option. What would be interesting is making a list of 5-7 rides and doing them one saturday with genie+ and one saturday without to see the actual difference.

Great video, I love hearing your prospective on things, it's a breath of fresh air to have your positivity.
We were there all day Friday and used Genie+. We noticed that early in the day the lines were much longer, things like thunder mountain and jungle cruise we packed all day and Space Mountain and the people mover being down most the day also moved people to different parts of the park causing longer lines at things like the little mermaid. There were tons of bottle necks at ride entrances as well where people stumbled around looking for the standby vs lightning lanes.
I think if Nate had tried his experiment at park opening it would have been a much different experience.

Thanks Nate. You have the best videos when it comes to food. This one is great. I don’t plan to use the Genie+ at all. If I ride, fine. If I don’t I’ll just enjoy the parks and food. The price of the park ticket is enough. All these expensive changes are hard to comprehend when Disney was such a wonderful park. Now, it’s another story. Your video proved that you can still enjoy the rides and it’s all about timing.
My kids love that shooting gallery, we always spend a long time there every visit.
I do love watching and seeing what Genie will tell you to do, on the free version!

A day at magic kingdom is always fun
This was enlightening to see the difference without Genie+ and was heartwarming for you to reminisce the Wild Ride Icee with memories of shopping with your mom and getting treated to popcorn and Icee if you were good. I'll bet you got the treats a lot! It was also nice of you to video the Winnie the Poo ride since your mom will enjoy it so much. And best of all the episode was alcohol-free which to me, appears to give you more energy, focus, and sentiment towards your lovely family.

Excellent review Nate! You tell it like it is. We're coming to Disney World in late January and don't plan on buying the Genie+. As far as the wait times for the standby lines I think it all depends on when one goes to the parks. During the holidays I'm sure the parks will be more crowded and more people will be tempted to purchase the Genie+. For us, we enjoy going thru the standby lines. Disney excels with their entertainment when walking thru the standby line.
Thank you so much for this video. I have been watching several videos to see how things are with the genie plus and your video is the most informative. We have a child with disability and we cannot wait for long times in the line. We need the DAS pass for him. In the past, there were limitations to some attractions with the DAS pass and in those cases, fast pass was helpful. We are a family of 5. Definitely cannot afford $15 per person for the genie plus. Your video gives us hope that we would be able to have some fun with our kids. Best video👍

I am so glad you did this! We are headed from Utah next week for a three-day cruise on Disney (NATE! YOU would LOVE the Disney Cruise!), and a few days at WDW!! I have really debated using Genie, and I too, do not think it is worth it!

Thanks for another great video! I share your sentiments in that I don't like the Genie/Genie+/PayPer concept. Taking my family makes the extra cost just not something I am going to do. But I do love WDW, and it is special, so I will still make the best of our days when we are there.

Then I need to explain this new app. Ugh. I just want something to help families to have a great time and not cost them their life savings. I appreciate your honesty about your experience with Genie-plus. We are planning another big family trip next May. I certainly have some concerns regarding not only cost, but how much it "ties us" to a schedule. We want to just enjoy. We are fortunate to visit every 1-2 years, and stay at the wonderful economy resorts! It's rather ironic that we had a conversation that we were going to forgo "fast passes" because we would find ourselves "stuck to a schedule" at times. Funny.
