That "single tapping" taiko play style is actually pretty common, since the original game is played with two bachi, a lot of players choose to emulate that by using two fingers instead of four. There's also plenty of good controller players from the console releases of taiko no tatsujin
@@sst3w in osu!standard you have two fingers, in osu!taiko you have two hands, so when you alternate in taiko you alternate between hands, not fingers - thats why it works well. (that statement is only true for kddk keybindings, which shinchikuhome and many other pro players use)
Afaik here are some other weird playstyles Raburauza, a top player in my country uses full area + mouse tap to play the game, and its actually his main playstyle. Dustice plays with his tablet really tilted without rotating the area i think Gasanww plays the game mouse only for his entire career Tzechi played tapx + spacebar before switching to taiko
2:12 my friend has what he calls a “baby” area. I used to have a baby area, too. It was a 15x15 mm. I don’t play with it anymore because it was giving me RSI. But my friend still has a 12x10 area? I don’t remember the size of the area, but it’s very small

I think I have a somewhat unique playstyle, I tap with z and x like normal but I got so tired of my pen slipping even after buying grip tape that I ended up just taping my pen to my finger and playing like that. I use electrical tape so its fairly flexible and I still get my full range of control.
the taiko games on the nintendo ds also lets you play with the buttons instead of hitting the drums on the touchscreen so the controller one is kinda justified
