The first jagdkommando had it's origin in ww1, on the alpine front...it was a unit that consisted mostly of hunters, who already had experience in firing weapons, so it was called jagdkommando (hunting commando)
"One of the highest peaks in the alps" That's the weather radar on Scharfes Eck at 2364m. One of the highest peaks on this mountain? Yes. But the highest peaks of the alps are twice as high.
This is a great video of places from my youth: During my military service, I spent the first few months of basic training in the Seetaler Alps, in this very barracks. We did a lot of camping in old tents and dug into the snow frequently. It was freezing, with temperatures dropping as low as -30°C, but the sunny days were beautiful. The radio tower is on the mountain where I grew up, near the base where the station is located. Just one small correction: The mountain with the radio station isn't one of the highest in the Alps, but it’s still quite high. 😉
The reason why Zwentendorf (the nuclear power plant) was never turned on was because the austrian goverment built it but did not realize that the austrian people did not want nuclear power. So there were big protests against it. So much that the austrian chancelor at that time decided to ask the austrian people if they want nuclear power. 50.5 % of the austrian people said that there shal not be any use of nuclear power. So we built an fully functional Nuclear Power Plant and never used it.

08:00 - about austrian nuclear facility "Zwentendorf": what you said about the environment is a common missunderstanding (even many austrians think the reason for Zwentendorf to never go online was the environment). The actual reason was that this facility was the key-project of a certain politician who said that he would resign if ppl voted to not put it into action. So ppl voted that way to get rid of said politican.
as an austrian i had to pause and watch the episode :) 4, 5 years ago i filmed a video for the austrian army - was stationed at the same facility as you were ;) 20 years ago i was in service - despite the jagdkommando winning several competitions, beating navy seals and SAS, the rest of the austrian army is a shitshow. we still use the mg42 and üsmg - both ww2 weapons. and while austria can be quite mountainous - the east, where the unused powerplant is located, is flat as your girlfriend ;)

By the way, MG74 (7.62x51@850rpm) not 42 (7.92x57@1200rpm)… and the ÜSMG (Browning M2) is still used by the Americans to this day. It’s simple but effective.
The second guy on the thumbnail is wearing stars and stripes! He tried so hard he went from austrian to australian to american! F for effort! greetz from austria! Ive seen US Marines trying to ski... now that was funny!
To be honest, it sounds like something the Jagdkommando would do intentionally for training purposes. Long story: We have conscription in austria. And long ago, during my time, we got a presentation by them and there was the chance for doing the physical fittness test for wanting to join them. (I was in a company of one-year-volunteers, so we got a bit more challenging training in two branches and were taught to command up to platoon level. Infantery was mandatory for everyone, and after that i went for AAA, others for tanks, or supplies, or heavy mortars... and others to become carreer officers) Let me start by saying, when they arrived, we were doing a punishment thing because one of the ladies that had basic training with us had slept in. And we idiots had agreed when asked by the platoon commander "one for all and all for one?" So we all got punished... (we had 4 women who joined and did their basic training with us 1 year volunteers, two of them injured themselves before that event on the obstacle course and had to leave) To the punishment: We all had to pack our big pack (+30kg) in 10 minutes and then assemble outside again in full combat gear with the "big cloud" on our backs. To play "assemble over there". One of the group is made group commander and orders the group to assemble at some point 50-100m away. Then himself and the whole group sprints "there" and assembles in line formation (like in a parade). Then he reports to the NCO, gets switched out in command position by the next guy of the group and the game starts over. (quite challenging to even speak when so out of breath, but you need to be loud enough to command, and the NCO judges if you are loud and intelligible enough or you do it again until you are) So when they arrived, we were 5 groups, sprinting around in every direction with 30+kg on our backs and rifle in hand. They got out of the cars and watched us for some time. Later that day, when we got their presentation, their commander complimented the way we were trained.(He didn't know that was a punishment!) After the presentation and a live hostage rescue display by them in the classroom, the physical acceptance test was held. (in the dark because it was night by then of course) Of my group, only two guys tried the physical acceptance test. One part was with a smaller pack (only around 10kg) to run 1200m under a certain time limit in combat gear. So 4 laps on the sportsgrounds in the heavy boots. In the 3rd lap one of the Jagdkommando guys asked one of those two, which lap he was in. At his reply the JgKdo guy told him, "no, you are in lap 2". He tried to argue, but the JgKdo guy insisted (knowing that this was BS) and he had to do another lap. Another part was our obstacle course (which is different to the US ones) And there were rules which parts of an obstacle you weren't allowed to touch to make it harder. (not just for their aceptance test but in general training, today you are allowed to touch and use every part of these obstacles in general training) The other of my comrades went over an obstacle like he always did (correct way) and the JgKdo guy made him do it 3 times because he "didn't" see him do it each time. They also (and one of our officers also had such spleen) like giving you a training goal, like marching the whole day to a certain position, and when you arrive, it turns out that you need to march through the night for another few hours or so. (we had that done to us too, when our company commander decided we would not ride on the back of trucks back to base but had to walk through the night) It's their idea/way to make you "resistant/resiliant" for when things don't go like planned. So "forgetting" someone in the cold sounds like a normal training thing for them to me. Not really forgetting, but acting like they did. Why do i think it was intentional? Because armies are fond of counting people everytime they move and the austrian army is no different. So counting when moving out, counting when boarding a vehicle to go back...
Thats austria. We build a nuclear reactor and then we ask should we turn it on? People said no so it was never turned on. Happens ;) same for your not zeroed scope. Happens ;) it would not be austria if things like this don´t happen ;)
