- Race Around Rwanda continues and in this episode, I suppose you could say things got really bad Fortunately I have a silly enough sense of humour to find this kind of thing funny, despite the few tears after being knocked off and multiple expletives. Turns out the most revolting 'hotel' I've ever stayed in had rubber sheets, so make of that what you will.
At this stage in the race, Juliana and I were just trying to make ANY progress forward that we could, no matter how slow and very much seeing this 'race' as an experience to make the most of,. despite the 'hardships.' Because the thing it, just being in a position to even enter this race is such an enormous privilege that you can't really grumble about anything.

Getting hit by a motorbike in the middle of nowhere is something most people would think is a created story from a pub! "Where was the accident, London city?" "Nooo, in a jungle!"
Africa does that to you, I've spent a lot of time working in Africa from Uganda to South Sudan and you have to keep your sense of humour when things start to go wrong.

Love the adventure! High pressures in tubes help a lot to stop pinch punctures. Lots of riders think they can get away with close to the same pressures as tubeless. Not a chance. Go high and put up with the bumps!

I feel your pain - well, at least some of it. I've never been hit by a motorbike but spent 4 years travelling around Asia and I've slept in a few not-first-choice accommodations...

To be honest im loving watching your journey, I cannot find words worthy enough to describe how much admiration I have for you both, women of steel for sure, and to retain a sense of humour through the day even after getting knocked off your bike! Is amazing. OMG! Rubber sheets - yeah that's gross.

I like adventure too but might pass on Africa at the foreseeable future. Ice for a guided tour but I wouldn't bike it after seeing what you've gone through.

Looks like you ended up in a very local hotel. I know the feeling; if possible you avoid it as mzungu, but that is not always possible. That kind of small, dried fish is kind of normal food for Rwandese (I lived there for a few years) but if possible I would rather find some pasta and tomato's in a local shop than eating that after a hard day indeed.

What a terrible day and situation. Nothing worse than having to wait for someone along the way but it's obviously the right thing to do. So much for what looked like a leisurely ride the first day or so.

Common sense should prevail. You and your friend should bail. The undertaking is not worth her health or your friendship. It´s only a bike ride. You have seen some really beautiful places. Be happy with the good things. Be happy that you were not killed by the motor bike.

I'm not meaning to sound antagonistic but did the motorbike really hit you or did you just run into each other? It looks like it was the latter... I get that you don't expect to see a motorbike on such a small dirt road but that's common in Rwanda so I don't really see anyone at fault here. Anyway, it sucks that it happened and I'm glad you made it to a place to stay!
I guess this is why they call this type of event an "adventure ride". Although perhaps you could call it a mis-adventure ride. I know that you and Julianna are both suffering, but through it all you are still laughing. And when this trip is all over, you and Julianna will be laughing about your adventure in Rwanda for years to come.
