    I have brand new wheels still in the boxes, can I just use the Gyeon prep, then the coating?

    Hi! First of all great video!
    Just a question, I recently coated both sets of my wheels and I still have some left in the bottle. Now I dont want it to go to waste, could I use it on the cars paint? Perhaps only doing the hood and the roof.
    Are there any downsides or dangers to using it on the cars paint? And if so what are they?

      You won't get the same level of looks as you would a paint-specific coating.

    i see you using bathe to foam the wheels (straight out the bottle??) is this still the best product to use to clean the wheels after the chemical decontamination?

    • @Esotericdetail
      @Esotericdetail  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We like it because it has no extras or additives in it. So by using Bathe, it's simply cleaning the surface without leaving anything behind...perfect for pre or post coating applications.

    HII am mobile and I am looking for some protection for wheels. I dont have the luxury of being able to remove wheel, would you still recommend using only on face of wheels or would wet coat suit me better ?

    • @Esotericdetail
      @Esotericdetail  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wetcoat would be a good and quick solution, but it would be better suited for cars that you regularly maintain as it wouldn't have much durability.

  • @stephenboyd6038
    @stephenboyd6038 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    So after you apply the coating,and it cures.....I assume you can use any heavy duty wheel cleaners...only soap an water....so not to remove the coating...right!?

    • @Esotericdetail
      @Esotericdetail  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      After properly coating, you shouldn't need to use heavy wheel cleaners. But if you let the wheels go for a long period of time without cleaning, you could use something like Gyeon Iron or Sonax Wheel Cleaner Plus on them. Then just use soap and water to maintain.

    Fascinating video Todd. I saw you used product on painted brake calipers but I was wondering about using Gyeon or an alternative product on the inner barrels which I have painted and clear coated. I'll dispute your statement that the German cars are the worst offenders of brake dust. My C6 Corvette will give nightmares to any owner of a German made (Porsche) vehicle. It's the bain of my existence. lol Again, love all your videos.

      Yes, you can use Rim on any wheel type / finish both inside and outside. For your Corvette, it will make cleanup much easier. I would recommend applying 2 coats for best results! Thanks for the positive feedback...

    I’ve seen some detailers spray it on with a tool. I have some rims that I would need to spray bc I can’t get a sponge in the little spots but I look online and can’t find anything. Any idea what they use and do y’all sell it in your website?

    • @Esotericdetail

      They would be using basically a paint spray gun. It's not as easy as simply picking one up...you need a smaller one, you need to figure out the best pressures to use, etc.

    Don't GYEON also recommend applying CURE after 24 hours to prevent water spotting and then not to wash with any detergents for 7 days?

    • @Esotericdetail
      @Esotericdetail  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's for the body coatings. Since coatings continue to cure for about a 5 day period, it's always good to allow them to go as long as possible without getting them wet, but that's not always practical. Keep them dry for the first 24 hours and you should be good to go. You could use something like Gyeon Cure or POLISHANGEL Supersport to occasionally maintain the wheels so that you get maximum durability.

    • @Esotericdetail
      @Esotericdetail  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don't need that many coats, and the product will most likely start to reject itself after 2 or 3. If you're going to wait that long between coats, then you'd want to use new applicators / towels.

      Because only Certified installers can use Mohs+, not everybody would want to spend that much on a wheel coating, and because you can apply just 1 layer of Rim. There's always a Good / Better / Best offering, and not everybody wants "Best".

    I used this product, applied if back in October on my M2 that has been driven 12,000 miles. I did 2 coats using the same procedure as you have described. It seems to have lost its effectiveness around 8,000 miles perhaps a little later. Do I need to do anything special to do the new coats or just do the same procedure? Also I bought the Kamakaze Stance Rim Coat from you thinking that might last longer so I have both products available. Do you have an opinion as to which is the best for protection and something that might last a little longer than 8-9,000 miles? Not sure if it matters but I live in AZ so lots of heat here. I am what would be probably called a advanced amateur detailer so I don't mind detailing my car but I do want to go with the best product I can.
    Thanks

    • @Esotericdetail
      @Esotericdetail  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a lot of factors that come into play with durability on wheels...heat, how often you wash, what you use to wash, etc, etc. Using a pH neutral soap with water is the preferred method to maintain durability. Also, you may want to use something like POLISHANGEL Supersport to maintain them as well (video available on our TH-cam channel) as this will help with durability. When you look at the good/better/best scale, Rim would fall into the "better" category, and Stance would be in the "best" category. But then again, Stance is more than twice the price!

    • @lukeanderson7757
      @lukeanderson7757 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @Esotericdetail
      @Esotericdetail  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TBone, Thank you for the question! To reapply, simply perform a thorough Gyeon Tar and/or Prep wipe down and reapply the coating. You can maintain the wheel coating with either Gyeon WetCoat, or a product like Polish Angel Super Sport. These two maintenance coatings will act as a sacrificial layer for your wheel coating, enabling longer durability. KAMIKAZE Stance Rim Coat is also a fantastic product; which can be applied as easily after an initial Tar/ Prep Wipe. Stance Rim Coat can also be layers on top of itself, or with a base layer of Kamikaze Miyabi, for longer durability.
