@I hate Minecraft if you are being real here. A maggot egg is not rice its not even possible since rice comes from a grass plant PS: if this was a joke r/woosh me right now
Yes, they do still use certain types of maggots for cleaning dead flesh in wounds. They come in a teabag like gadget and it works amazing on pressure sores.
Tried this for the first time, here in Australia where I live. Went fishing for Redfin (English Perch). I didn't catch any Redfin but caught two Rainbow trout, which I didn't even know we're in the river I was stoked. Both fish over a kilo.
***** Where did I say they do eat fish ? I specifically said ''these maggots'' as these particular maggots are eating a fish whether you like it or not.
Put all that lot in a sealed container with a hole in the lid, I use an old plastic paint tub. Inside fix an old vacuum cleaner hose or washing machine waste pipe hose on the inside of the container going from the bottom next to the fish to the top. Drill a hole and fit the pipe thru it and straight into the top of a bait tub then the maggots crawl up the pipe when they finish eating and crawl into the bait tub so you don't have to separate anything just unfasten the bait tub and put another lid on and your done. Clean the system out and put more fish in it and away you go again. Cuts down on the time handling the waste and messing about with rotting carcasses. I keep fish and use the maggots for angling sometimes, they're a great source of protein for fish. Thanks for the video and taking the time mate.
we always used to "make" our own maggots as kids simply because we couldn't afford to buy them, we used to use any old shellfish for the eggs like crab claws or shells or prawn peelings anything like that then just put them on top of leftovers that were in a wooden box with a removable bottom, once the maggots were of size we would get a bucket then remove the bottom of the box so the maggots would then fall through the griddle wire into the bucket onto sawdust, best maggots you will ever use because they still have that natural smell unlike the processed rubbish sold in the shops now!
My dad thought me a old trick, do basically what this man is doing and grow some yourself. Fill a onion sack with the same meat at the same time and suspend in a tree over the river. The ones over the river drop gradually in and the big trout gather underneath. When your batch is ready so is the river. Put one on a hook and the head to the river. You’ll fill a bag with trout in a hour. Not very sporting but it’s ridiculously effective
I put my hands in a bag of maggots and it was scary asf I didn't notice them because they were inside a bag of granola and I had no idea and iuuuuusuhwh
Greetings from northeast Ohio USA. Wonderful video. I use maggots quite often for bluegill and pumpkin seed fish. Works like magic. I'll be saving some money this summer thanks to you. Hey, try to visit Lake Erie for the best walleye fishing in the world. Toot a loo.
Bacon in a tub in summer on a shed roof with a riddle, flies come along like the great man said lay eggs ,maggots drop through riddle :) fresh maggots :)
We used to make sour milk "specials" using a mixture of bran and milk and follow the same method to get a blow, we used to use these as a hook bait on the canals as they seemed softer plus has not got the erm fragrance of the fish method.
Guys !! I had this lunch box and I hadn’t ate my lunch at school , so when I got home I just put it on the floor. So basically 3 months later I found that same lunch box behind my door and I take it think “how did this get here?” And I look inside and all I see is magnets and flies !!!!i cried so much ! But don’t worry I cleaned my room today , I didn’t tell my parents because they would be furious
Thank you so much. This is inspiring of the knowledge of making homemade maggots to use for fishing. Great ingenuity. This is new information. Blessings. 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺👍🩵🌈
I only picked up your channel the other day , dare I say it ? Yes , I'm hooked. Years ago we used to breed our own maggots and a wormery at the bottom of my brother in law's house , Maggots we caught over 250 roach ,perch and the odd bullheads , brilliant.
Hi Grahame great show. How long does it take for them to grow to useable size and how long can you let them grow on the carcasses for before they start to turn into casters?
I usually leave mine for a couple of days to get the blows. Then cover it. Because if it keeps getting blows, all the maggots will be of different sizes. Then it will be about 5 days for the maggots to come. But I think you should feed it once or twice, before you collect the mags. Please note this is the way I do it. Don't shout and swear at me. It works for me, but it does depend on the temperature. Obviously summer is the best. But i have done it until probably October. And then I have started again in May. As I say it's just my personal opinion..... cheers.
Nice info easy way to make maggots ty here in the U.S. I fish for carp, love carp I catch all my carp in front of me, I under hand my bait out Under 5 yards
Have you considered using Black Soldier Fly larvae? Put an over ripe banana (or apple, etc.) in the bottom of a five gallon bucket and cover with several inches of leaves so that houseflies cannot get to it. Houseflies lay their eggs on the food source. Black soldier flies lay their eggs on top of the leaves and the larvae will crawl down to the food source. Soldier fly larvae are bigger and better. Plus, if they somehow finish their life cycle, you have benign soldier flies.
This stuff is reel life,10/10 Masser Pullens.there could well be a letter 'u' misssing somewhere in there.anyway, this is a very good down to earth video..well done .
Graeme, how would you go about colouring the maggots? I would love to have red maggots for my tench fishing, but they're illegal to buy here in Germany (I expect probably something to do with toxicity ^^). I've tried sprinkling normal food colouring into shop bought maggots, but I'm sure it needs to be while they're feeding. Do you reckon it would be enough just to sprinkle the powdered colouring over the meat? Cheers.
I think maggots normally head for the ground when they are ready to pupate and dig down. I wondere if you could just put the fish on paper on a grid over the dirt then later seive the dirt for the pupae?
This is an extremely wholesome video. This old man is living his days

Here in Floriida this comes in handy. Never saw maggots in a bait shop once. And I know they work here too like a charm.

Fun fact: if your an owner of chickens this video is also helpful as the maggots supply a source of protein to the chickens making your eggs better.
