Jerry Joins the Airborne Rangers As They Jump From A Legendary WWII Plane

  • Jerry joins the Phantom Airborne Rangers as they jump from the legendary "Tico Belle" into Lake Dora! The genuine WWII era C-47 airplane carried 88 paratroopers as they did a static line jump into the water. This amazing plane is the same actual plane that saw action in WWII. The jumpers parachuted from The Tico Belle just like soldiers did during D-Day, The Battle of the Bulge, The Battle of Market garden and more. Their parachutes filled the skies over Lake Dora on May first. Jerry rode along on the first flight as Linda took videos from the ground. The ride was eye-opening as the heat, noise, and shaky plane must have made for a terrifying trip for the young men that jumped into battle back in WWII.
The plane returned to the airport after successfully dropping the Rangers into the lake. Jerry and Linda jumped into their car and made the trip over to Mt. Dora where they rode on a pontoon boat to help rescue paratroopers from the water on the next drops. It was a spectacular say for everyone, especially the crowds on the waterfront that watched the parachutes float down into the water. Each of the jumpers was an Airborne Ranger. We salute each and every one and thank them for their service. We also thank the Phantom Airborne Rangers for organizing the awesome event.

Thank you Jerry! That was bitter sweet. My dad was in WWII at The Battle of the Buldge. When the pilot spoke where the plane had been I teared up thinking about all our men. Awesome video. Wonderful jumping from the men too. I wish you could’ve interviewed the 87 yr old after his jump. I’m sure he made it ok though. Thank you!

If you want to see an interesting video on You Tube. watch "The American St. Nick", about a group of American soldiers who tried to help the children of Wiltz, Luxembourg celebrate St. Nicholas Day in December. 1944, a few weeks before the Battle of The Bulge. The video was made about 6 years ago.

My father was a D-Day Vet. He and 4 other men went ashore in a rubber raft, under fire, before the first wave landed. They were there to control the air support. My dad died August 30, 2001, and five days before he died, his congressman presented him the French Medal of Liberty, on behalf of the French government. After D-Day, he fought thru France, Holland, into Belgium and the Ardennes Forest, and the Battle of the Bulge, where he was awarded the Belgian Croix de Guerre, which we didn't learn about until his death. He never talked about the war with my siblings and only talked to me after I joined the Navy. I was a member of the fraternity, I guess.

Holy Smokes, what a thrill !!! Vintage aircraft...right up my alley. A bunch of friends and I followed Air Shows around the Pacific NW for about ten years...ya know...Top Gun days. We hit Abbotsford (Canada), Paine Field in Everett(Boeing), Reno Air Races and a lot more. Sure saw a lot of good shows and met a lot of nice folks. This was a joy to watch today. Mt. Thanks Terrie, No, they do not do it everyday, but they do get together for jumps from time to time. Being able to do it from this amazing plane was a treat for them. (and Jerry!)

An incredible video.......quite a surprise from residents of The Villages.....definitely not a Mailbag Monday episode. Thank you for arranging the logistics and doing this video....from the Browders, Donna and Richard in Virginia.
