I love that you have an emotional attachment to fuchsias. Not to pop your bubble about the age of those you saw on your trip, but the size of a fuchsia is determined by the variety, not the age. Of course, years and years of growth on a tall variety will produce many multi-stemmed parts to the shrub as you saw there, but each variety tops out at a different height. That must have been a tall variety. I have a very tall variety in my yard, too, that I planted and you don't see it very often in nurseries or elsewhere and I absolutely love it, as do the hummingbirds it attracts - the best part. Who knows? The one you saw in Shetland might even be younger than your beloved family one.
Omg! This is awesome! I want to travel with you! Great information for my knitting group as we try and put together a Shetland Knitting trip. Thank you!❤
Wow! This would be a bucket list trip for me. I’d love to tour with other knitters. I appreciate your thorough coverage from the hotels and cities to the classes. I too am a sort of introvert and I’d love to attend in the future
I'm so glad that the videos are helpful! Tours like this are absolutely phenomenal. I'm so excited to return! We can be introverts and knit together :) I am opening signups for a May 2025 Scottish Highlands Tour to my email list tomorrow morning! I'm English and new to your channel. I went on a cruise that included visits to Edinburgh and Lerwick. Nice to see the main streets of both places again. Unfortunately my cruise was in September 2022, just after Queen Elizabeth died so I was rather sad. The Queen had laid at St Gilles cathedral during her journey from Balmoral, where she died, to her funeral in Windsor. It was very poignant to be there just a few days later. I'm very much enjoying your trip and your knitwear.
I'm LOVING the Scotland tour recap vlogs! Can't wait to see the next episode! I think my favorite parts are when you're just walking around the streets 🥰
Hey Ms. Rachel--love this next episode. And yes, here in Scotland, fuscias grow like weeds. I have a few of these 'trees' in my yard, and when you trim the branches and toss out the clippings, they grow again. So glad you are having a great time!! That lace did look daunting!
Yes I'd love to spend a day at No.88 from open to close and just eating my fill. The food was absolutely spectacular. If your daughter ever wants to get into black market recipe smuggling, please send her my way!
fuscia ....my favorite plant ..many years ago I had them in pots ...truly amazing to know they grow into bushes and trees..glad ypu shared.I am going to look for part 2 I missed that .much apprecaiated take care.
Fuscia tree history , very cool! You’re very fortunate to have that family history, and a grandmother still around to share facts, and life with you 💜 And I loved the ruins ! As well, as your whole Scotland experience ! Goals 🏴🤞🏻 thank you so much Rachel, for sharing your journey ! You present it famously ! 😊
Hi! Forgot to say on my comment to Ep. 20 yesterday that those tweed buttons? Are A-MAZING!! They are so perfect on that sweater you made. And the PURPLE! Be still my beating heart. So glad you were able to go back to Jameson & Smith to get the colors switched out. I’ve bought kits on a whim before that I’ve never made because it ended up that the colors did not make my heart sing. You did the right thing. I’m so glad I got to see the Fuchsia Forest. I feel the same way about Hydrangea bushes. There were huge ones with big blue puff-balls all along my grandparents’ front of their house. I only have one bush that only sometimes blooms, but it blooms purple! This looks like such an amazing trip. Thanks for sharing it with us. And I LOVE seeing the food, almost as much as the yarny things! Food makes such good (or bad!) memories. Your food on this trip looks wonderful.
Another nice video :) Just for the record but we don't regard ourselves as Scottish or part of Scotland :) It's wonderful to have our own separate heritage and identity.
I really enjoyed your vlogs of your trip. I will be in Lerwick for one day on a UK cruise, so I'm so glad you explained the difference between the 2 Jamison and Smith shops. I will be sure to go to the larger site!!
That’s excellent! The larger one (Jamison & Smith Wool Brokers) is directly across the street from the ferry terminal and just behind The Shetland Hotel. Should be super easy to walk there from the ferry! Then it’s about a 30 min walk to the city centre from there.
Loved it! I’ve researched knitting belts extensively and love that you got to take a class using them. Hoping to get one eventually. Looking forward to installment four.
I’m loving these vlogs so much Rachel. I left Edinburgh when I was 7 to move to Australia and haven’t been back for a holiday-so to see the footage is so great.
I watched all of the Scotland tour recaps last night. Very well done. I think you should have a show on PBS. Much of the background music gave that vibe. The Fuchsia section made me cry. Bravo!
@@rachelisknitting It's kind of like belt knitting but instead you use long straights and put one needle under your arm to hold it. I'm not very good at it but I did complete a dishcloth that way. I like to learn different methods to change things up so i don't injure myself. I've been knitting and crocheting for nearly 45 years and i believe adding variety will help. So far I've learned how to throw, (I'm a continental knitter), Portuguese style, and armpit knitting. I can't wait to try it with a belt.

So much food !! I think I'd either have to lose a lot of weight beforehand or go for lots of walks during the trip. Is there a lot of walking during this tour?
So happy I found your tubes! I have a totally non knitting question, on the ferry were the beds a true twin? I took a cruise from St Petersburg to Moscow and the beds were half a twin (very narrow)!
I am rewatching your recap just now. So the needles you need for lace knitting are of course quite fine. Did you bring a whole assortment of needle sizes with you for all the different workshops or were those provided? Just wondering what I need to pack next year. (Can you tell I am excited already?)
They advise on what sizes to bring! Everything but needles are provided, with the exception of the workshop we had with Janette Budge for the knitting belt. She provided the DPNs we needed for that!

I love your videos and your appreciation of Scotland - so nice - but I don't so much love the background music. What about teaming up with Promote Shetland and using their music?? th-cam.com/video/jB7BbM7ArrY/w-d-xo.html Just an idea . . . not meant to detract from your very appealing content and presentation!
Thanks for the suggestion! I used background music that I found in the TH-cam Creator Studio so I could use it without worry of copyright infringement. The music choice won’t be for everyone, but it’s what worked for me to use.

You’re so so funny when signing off about the fuschia trees/bushes. 😂❤️. They were pretty impressive.
They were so amazing!

I forgot to say I love fuchsias too. I have 9 in my garden at the moment but I have never seen one as large as the fuchsia tree you found!
Glad that the videos scratched the nostalgic itch for you. Hopefully the next time you see these places, you won’t be sad!

Yes!!! The times just walking around and enjoying the atmosphere were soooo peaceful. Wish I could have bottled those moments up!

That's how they grow in the area I grew up, too! Just love them so much.
I love your wool holder. Thank you so much for sharing your story, it’s been lovely to see. I live in Shetland and my daughter works at Number 88!
Oh my goodness I hope you are spoiled with their good food often then! I will never forget that meal!!!
@@rachelisknitting I hope you enjoyed it enough to bring you back.

So cool
I'd done armpit knitting before. I've been wanting to try knitting belts.
I hadn’t heard of armpit knitting. Who knew!

Nb, armpit is 'oxter' in Shetland dialect ❤
@@Stumpybear7640 Thanks i didn't know that.
Yay for part three! So good!

Really really enjoying the vlogs and especially your commentary 🙂 And I’m fully invested in the lipstick subplot!

Fuschia grows are especially well in shetland as long as they have the shelter from strong winds to grow x
Simply amazing!
So much food !! I think I'd either have to lose a lot of weight beforehand or go for lots of walks during the trip. Is there a lot of walking during this tour?
A bit but not too much walking during the itinerary activities, but you can go on as many walks as you’d like during your free time!
❤❤❤

I think they might have been a bi narrower than a true twin, but it's been so long since I slept in a twin bed!

Yes absolutely 100% worth it! The ones I use are linked in the video description.
