Farhan, thank you for your comments. It seems like an unlikely correlation but people in the lowest quartile have a two to three times increased risk for cardiovascular disease versus people in the highest quartile (1). We appreciate your support for our channel and for your contribution to our overall PT knowledge.

I did this a month ago at an assessment for my wheelchair. Put down just over 155 pounds. Im a T11-12 incomplete paraplegic, 33 years old. Is that pretty high? The nurse seemed impressed lol. I only weigh about 165 or so

Yes, it is high. Norms for your age range are around a 95-100 pounds. Thanks for watching our videos.

How does this cover the proper technique with mentioning position setting for hands ? I can grip it from all the way in to several steps out. So which is ideal ?

There is no standard position for the handle with this type of dynamometer. The dynamometer should be adjusted so that it fits the person's hand comfortably, with the thumb and fingers wrapped around each side of the handles. If the person feels like it will slip when they squeeze it, or if the fingers and thumb are almost touching then it needs to be re-adjusted. We hope that is helpful and thanks for watching.

The person doing my test didn’t care at all and I have big hands and he had it on the smallest setting. I was only reading 10-20 kg.

Also he had me standing up

In physical therapy we try to standardize our testing as much as possible so we can improve reliability and validity and whenever possible measurements should be done that way. That said, often clinically we are interested in changes within a patient so as long as the measurement is done the same way each time the therapist measures you it will help detect improvements in your grip strength.

Why the person is holding their breath when squeezing? I believe that is what this person is asking.@@physicaltherapyeducationso4585
