That lock entry maneuver, pointing initially toward the overflow to maintain course and straightening out at the last second, is precisely what pilots call a "crab and kick" crosswind landing. A little old-fashioned for an airplane, but it seemed to work great for the narrowboat. (The narrowboat equivalent of the modern airplane maneuver would require a bow thruster engaged for the duration.)
Having watched enough of your videos to immediately know what was coming when Jo asked "Shall we start at the beginning?" What had me laughing was Jo's reaction! Love it!
Hi guys, nice to wake up to.just another night of heavy storms and tornadoes here. Glad to see that George got his ice cream. My three get there Frosty Paw's today while I have a Hagen Daz. Our Sunday treat. Thanks for the video always looking forward to the next. Stay safe.
My first taste of life on the Canals was with Tim and Pru on the Llangollen Canal. Which brought me to you guys. Michael I feel you on the heights, That's me with Bridges, stay in the middle, look straight ahead and go. Happy Spring!!!
Man, the big bang reference in your bloopers was genius. And without missing a beat at that. If I ever make it to the UK's canals and I bump into you guys, beer's on me. You earned it with that one.
Heh, thanks... notice how she rolled her eyes though? Imagine having to deal with me on a daily basis! She might need the beer by the time you arrive! ;-) M
Sadly you’ll be shocked to find that Jo would prefer the beer and that I’m a near-teatotaller who occasionally tries a whiskey. George will go nuts for that milk bone though! M
It’s a little known fact that the translation from Welsh to English of Llangollen, means, “Welcome to lift bridge hell”. It’s where I had my first and only babtism. But it’s so great seeing again from your view. By the way, I’ll put my puggle Bruno up against George in a speed eating competition any day. George is positively Victorian in his manners.
Ahh memories, fond memories. It's been great watching your most recent vlogs on the Llangollen. We had our first ever canal holiday on the section you have just done. We started at the Bunbery Locks and spent our first night just after going through to Herleston locks. The second night was spent just after Willeymore lock. the following day we went as far as the staircase locks at Grindley Brook and then turned around and headed back. Night three was spent at Wrenbury and our last night at Barbridge We enjoyed it so much we had other holidays on other canals. Thanks for the wonderful videos.. Kind Regards. Dave.
That was a lot of locks. You make it all look like no work at all. Great video as usual. Memorial day weekend here so we drove miles to be able to camp in the rain. An American tradition.
So, just got done binging through all your vids over the last 10 days or so. Got in the habit of watching in the morning with my coffee and google maps opened up so I could follow along with ya. So figured I would drop in and click a comment...
I seem to always get a chuckle somewhere throughout your videos. It's great. Up the lock?... Down the lock?... THROUGH the lock! Love your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Hi guys another great video thanks for letting us cruise with the pirates today Can’t wait for the next one all the best safe boating watch out for black beard he’s a mean pirate cheers Barry
I just think what a lovely couple xx love you both. Keep the history and interesting facts coming. Love cruising with you. Can we have a virtual tour of the boat?
Yet another great video. You are in for a real treat, the views from the canal is amazing. Nice to see the real star of the vlog getting a nice treat (ice cream). Keep the vlogs coming.
I loved it when Jo mentioned lovely ice cream and Michael’s face immediately lit up. I’m sure George is looking forward to the return journey. What a day he had. New tennis balls and doggy ice cream. Yummy! Hope you had your day of rest Jo or managed to get some painting done. Dress code for next vlog, eye patches and parrots on shoulders please. ☠️🦜 whoa ho ho ho a pirates life for me. 🏴☠️
To be honest my face always lights up at the sound of Jo’s voice! I like the pirate idea, but not a clue where I’d find a parrot around these parts on short notice! M
Thanks gang for allowing us to follow along with the tales of GEORGE and Michael and Jo. But guys pirates ,nope . But Michael does have a Paul Hollywood ( baking guru )look about him . Well thanks again and cheers from OZ.
Rather bizarre. Just watched the girls going the opposite way thro Wrenbury (with an r) and your coming up..... Lovely vlog as per, you two are as nutty as they are, which is great, I love it. Well done Capt slightly grey beard and first mate Jo mint choc chip, best Pirates on the canal. Hope you enjoyed, if you had time, in Whitchurch, catch it on the way down if you missed it, well worth it.
At that lock around the 4:52 point - there is a railing along lock where the horizontal components are textured like cable but are rod straight, I am wondering whether they are cable or wrought iron which is formed to imitate cable.
It goes by quick, but I’m pretty sure that’s a cast iron bar that’s been worn down and notched in places by wet and gritty centerlines pulled taught over them. There’s similar often seen at brides, the iron places to keep the ropes from damaging the stone. M
Ice cream for George... nice. I wonder what regular ingredients (besides chocolate) that they avoid when making Doggy ice cream. When you guys get Bakery Treats, does does George get any? Country living folk know "Leave gates the way you found them", but that lift bridge is messing with my head- aint the rule to leave road bridges set for cars?
It usually is, but that one had been chained into position and had a note on it. Oddly next time we were there both were missing. So who knew. George does get pieces of my bakery treats. As for the ice cream the main thing was added nutritional bits for pooches... I doubt it would taste good to a human, but it’d be recognizably ice cream, just better for your coat. M
A small dense point, AKA: "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move." Beautiful looking country, I guess I should try to find some Welsh ancestors so I'll have an excuse to do the area on our planned heritage trip in a couple of years. And stay out of the cow fields, those rogue cows are everywhere.
I’m not sure creating it was a bad move... peopling some sections of it might be more of an issue! ;-) Shall keep our eyes peeled for nattily dressed, slightly anarchistic cattle. M
oh -i see the reason now for the title ,-- me thinks thou protest to much - the orginal affirmation we are was so convincing i don't think the title is going to help convince me other wise - hoist yar colors mates -just as i thought the cross and skull - its just so hard to tell these days

I love the storage spot for all (some) of George's tennis balls.
Definitely some! There’s many others squirreled about! M

A little old-fashioned for an airplane, but it seemed to work great for the narrowboat. There are times piloting a narrowboat is like flying... though if we get either pitch or roll happening something’s gone seriously wrong! M
Having watched enough of your videos to immediately know what was coming when Jo asked "Shall we start at the beginning?" What had me laughing was Jo's reaction! Love it!
Try saying PONT - CUR - SULTH - TAY. It works fine. Please have a good time in Llangollen. It is a lovely place.
It really is! Unpronounceable, but lovely! ;-) M

Thanks for enjoying them in the face of all that wind! Git ye to a storm cellar! M
That sounds like the weather here in Missouri!

The problem with the Pontcysyllte is that if you look straight ahead all you see is heights! M

@@MinimalList A whiskey for the lady then. A milk bone for the dog, and a beer for the gents. Good times had all around lol.

I’d like to see that speed eating competition, side by side in slow mo, victor takes all! M
Thank you for sharing George's Wonderful Day Out. Idyllic and amusing, as always.
He is pretty idyllic! M
Interesting about the Scoop's ice cream for dogs. And man, he was digging that! :)

Hi guys another great video thanks for letting us cruise with the pirates today Can’t wait for the next one all the best safe boating watch out for black beard he’s a mean pirate cheers Barry
I’ve read about Black Beard (aka Edward Teach) over the years... fascinating fellow, not nearly as fearsome as his reputation! M
Super choice of accompanying music.
Great work both of you.
Really enjoy your videos of your travels.
Keep safe.
Thanks! Glad you like the music! M
I just think what a lovely couple xx love you both. Keep the history and interesting facts coming. Love cruising with you. Can we have a virtual tour of the boat?
We did a tour fairly early on... I’m afraid I can’t remember what video, but it was quite early. Hard to do one now because of the mess! M
Thank you that was fun.....thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching! M

Great vlog as usual guys, looks like a lovely area
It really is gorgeous around here! M
Loved the video :)
Glad you did! M

Came the day I learned there’s such a thing as a baking guru. Fascinating world. Glad you like George’s channel! M
You need a pirate flag. Being in the home of the Pinckney Pirates I should be able to find one somewhere in town.
Not sure we actually want to fly a pirate flag (at least not your standard Jolly Roger)... might confuse the children more! M
Great video
Thanks! M
great guys as always ,just a shame it looked overcast as the area was gorgeous take care
Yeah. I mean it’s that gorgeous because it’s always overcast, but yeah! M
Always love your vids. And area of infinite density, brilliant!
It was actually probably pretty damned dark... it got brilliant not long afterward, around about the moment the moments began. M

We quite like Whitchurch, heading in both directions! The basin is lovely, and I like the sign warning turners not to wake the ducks! M

Well Michael if you want the world to believe you are a pirate you need to fly the Jolly Roger ... LOL Great video as always guys, have a great day.
I’d want a very alternative Jolly Roger... like a fat grinning guy giving a thumbs up, wearing a “Hello, My Name Is” badge. M

Hello :-)
Hi! M
Hi, and greetings from New Zealand, can you tell me what the song is, it sounds familiar.
Kia ora! The song is called Parkside by Dan Liebowitz, Jo got it off a TH-cam-approved list of songs for videos. M
@@MinimalList thanks I will look it up.
Pirates?? Did not see it or think it... butttt now that's in the title... lol
I don't think George liked that ice cream at all. I think you should give him another one to see.
Might have to try a few more, just to be sure! M
No ice cream for the chinchillas?
They were resting after a large meal of microphone! M

Did I miss something? What happened to all of the coal on your roof?
We stored what we couldn’t burn. There’s some in the engine bay, some under the dinette. We’re a regular coal bunker! M
Something of George this time, could have been more though...
He’s in there when he wants to be, George’s got a right to privacy! ;-) M

We’d fly a dog and crossed milk bones, rampant on a bed of lettuce, but the Lion King of Arms seems to protest. M
