Overall, this looks much cleaner than mario 35, visually speaking, and seeing all the players in the field along with you seems more fun, like a very literal multiplayer experience. Shame we lost this to get the "downgraded" version, one that even has an expiration date shown the exact day it released.
I like how Nintendo essentially copied this as part their scummy handling of Mario’s 35th anniversary

As a speedrunner for the game, I found the game extremely fun. I love the idea and execution was done perfectly. Though, hitboxes are a bit too large for most of the sprites. Great game!

The pyshics in this games are too different compared to the NES game. Basically, the momentum is non existant, you move always at the same speed and if you stop pressing left or right you stop to 0 speed instantly even midair. The hitboxes are different, Bowser jumps only last a fraction of a second, there is a horrible delay entering pipes and you have to be perfectly centered to enter in one.
So no, playing this game is different than speedrunning. Is still a cursed concept and I had fun playing it, but the controlls of the NES version are a lot better than this.

Not to mention underwater levels are absent altogether and scales don't work here either. It's a good concept but poorly executed. This has actually been done before but the earlier attempt at this no longer exists and I think it only included the first 3 levels.
