    I loved this honest and informative review, I've almost pulled the trigger on a Strandberg guitar, in particular an 8 string about a dozen times (in the last week lol), it's so good to hear from someone who's had one hands on and can offer the critique the rest of us are looking for that will influence our decision, I'm sold! God Bless and stay safe!

      Thanks for watching and the kind words! Congrats on pulling the trigger on it, the Strandberg design makes more and more sense the more strings you add...it's crazy how light, compact and playable this guitar is, ESPECIALLY with 8 freaking strings!

    True, true, if you go past 6, might as well go all the way for 8, especially on a Strandberg. Your music will thank you. Drop tuning that lowest string to E is very tempting, though. Many Strandberg owners say that it really does not cause problems.

    Thanks for your thoughtful review. I currently have a Schecter Blackjack A8 (quite happy with it) and use it in a duo playing classic rock. I have it tuned down two half steps to the low E. Most songs I play the bass part, and on others I'm up in the guitar range playing solos and song signature licks, just fretting two frets higher. I'm been looking over the Strandberg 8's and inching my way toward one to have a multi-scale instrument and a second 8-string. Thanks, again.

      Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words! The Strandberg 8 is amazing to play both sitting and standing and weighs about the same as a six string guitar. The only word of caution I'd give you is that some of the Indonesian made 'Berg's I've played have had really extreme fret sprout (my 8 string did). I'd recommend buying where you can potentially return it if you get one like that. Other wise, they play and sound great and are worthy of the price tag

      Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching! The headless design really is so important on any 8 string guitar, if it had a head stock it would be so heavy and uncomfortable. It weighs about the same as a normal six string guitar despite the larger body and neck, def check one out when you can!
      If you haven't already consider giving the channel a sub for loads of new guitar content coming in the spring! And if you've got a few stop by and check out my new single 'World -1', since you liked the demo track here I think you'd really dig one of my fully written tunes!

      Yea that's what I meant. I'm also not a fan of basswood guitars, but that's just IMO. The Strandy ergonomics make it the only build I'd consider for an 8, it's such a wide neck the Strandy design makes it as comfortable as it's going to be.

  • @kyrorocks
    @kyrorocks 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Regarding the sharp fret ends on the treble side, I have a theory. In Indonesia the humidity and temperature is very high. So when the guitars reach dryer and cooler climates, the wood is bound to shrink slightly as it drys. Leaving the frets sticking out a bit from the fretboard. My Indonesian made Ibanez RGIB6 actually shredded my index finger, until I leveled the edges down. You could leave your guitar in the bathroom and let it sit there, would perhaps solve that issue.

    • @aminorerror
      @aminorerror  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's def an interesting theory! Right now its cold here in Philly and all my guitars are a little sharp on the edges (although not my Korean made 'berg) This guitar is by far the WORST though on the fret edges than my J Custom Ibanez or Kiesel Vader that get a little sharp in the winter. Fingers crossed your right, and I think I'll try that bathroom trick too! Thanks for watching!

      @kyrorocks 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@aminorerror Well, I belive both South Corea and Japan are less humid than Indonesia. Thanks for the review and good luck in the bathroom! Just ordered a white Metal 8. Cheers!

    Enjoyed this review dude, cheers for sharing. I can definitely relate to reaching for lower notes than what I get out of my 7-string in b-standard. I frequently look for an A but find b-standard much more intuitive because of the 4th interval between B and E. Do you miss the trem from your 7-string?

    • @aminorerror
      @aminorerror  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and for the kind words! I'm kinda spoiled, I've still got my Strandberg Original 7 with a Tremolo that's in drop Ab, and still have my Ibanez J Custom 7 that's in standard. I def would miss the tremolo if I didn't have it anymore, but that said having the 8 with a fixed bridge is cool too. Different setups make you play and approach leads differently that I think is a lot of fun to play around with. Thanks again and best of luck!

    Those types of jacks are supposed to have a locking washer. It frequently goes missing when beginners do their own maintenance because they can't figure out what it's for (or at the factory if the new guy does that part). A new one should be a few cents at most in any hardware store. Buy 2 and put on both sides to be extra sure that thing never comes undone again :)

    • @aminorerror
      @aminorerror  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eh, IMO they should just use better quality jacks that don't require modifications to not fail. I've now had problems with 5 of these style jacks, all of which were brand new to start. Especially having this jack fail at a gig is unacceptable in general let alone for a guitar that costs over 2 grand.

    Getting really close to pulling the trigger on one of these as my first 8-string and multiscale. I see there are some concerns with QC on the new NX Boden models. I can deal with most of the common issues, except the sharp and poorly filed frets. I hate dealing with returns and exchanges, so I am wondering - is the issue something that can be fixed by filing them further yourself?

    • @aminorerror
      @aminorerror  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting, yes unfortunately QC can be a little hit or miss specifically with regards to the fret work on the Indo strandy's. Some viewers have speculated it's because of the high humidity climate in Indonesia but I'm not so sure. Some of the Indo strandy's I've reviewed have been perfect and others have been pretty bad. It is a job you can do yourself (I'd highly suggest watching a bunch of videos online otherwise you're likely to just make a mess of the fretboard) but IMO they really need to get on this issue. It's unacceptable for any guitar to have bad fret work, let alone a $2,000+ guitar. Rock on!

    • @aminorerror
      @aminorerror  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep still got it! The white has NOT aged well. It's got this uneven yellowing all around the body and it's probably been my least favorite Strandberg I've reviewed (I've done around 8 so far.) Don't let that scare you off, it's the most comfortable 8 string on the market but the Indo Strandy's can be a bit hit or miss. Good luck!

    Thanks for your review! What would be in your opinion the best pick between the Boden Metal 8 and the Boden Original 8? From the specs I see that the only differences are in the woods and a lil bit in the price. The rest seems the same 🤔

    • @aminorerror
      @aminorerror  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting! Yea the Original and Metal are pretty damn close, although the difference in body woods is going to change the character of the guitars a decent bit. Otherwise, the choice comes down to cosmetics too, which one you think looks best for what your going for image wise. I like my Metal 8, but the fretwork was pretty rough (as a few of the Indonesian Strandy's I've tested has been) so I'd suggest making sure you can possibly return it if you get a bad one. Best of luck!

      Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate the support and kind words. I was playing in a relatively successful cover band for years (we usually played 70-85 gigs a year) and we would put a modern rock and metal spin on new pop tunes. Being as synth bass lines go lower than normal bass guitar range I found the 8 worked great to compliment those lines in spots when making the songs heavier. It was also fun to move whole riffs and chord progressions and octave lower or just have movement go lower in spots too. THANK GOD I'm out of that band and not in that toxic environment anymore though...the worst band members ever lol I'm just focusing on my channel and original music now, I've got 11 new guitar reviews and 3 EP's on the way so I hope you'll stop back and check em out. One of my favorite aspects of all strandberg's over companies is that the fan isn't as extreme as it can be with other companies. My Kiesel Vader, while a beautiful instrument, has a pretty extreme fan that can be uncomfortable at times. Not the case with any Strandberg I've ever played, 6, 7 or 8 string. Because of the endure neck design, and the placement of the strap pins, there isn't another brand out there that nails ergonomics better.
      Hope that helps!

      No, my point was that that fan isn't extreme, unlike other companies like Kiesel or Ormsby ect.
      Have you ever played an extended range guitar before? If you're jumping from a 6 straight to an 8 that'll be a bit confusing, but if you're used to an 7 switch to 8 with the different scale length will be very easy. Otherwise it might just take a little more work.

      @aminorerror  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi!
      Thanks for watching and commenting, while I haven't been able to check out an Abasi yet, there's two things that stand out to me. The first is the fan is a bit wider than the 'berg so certain things will be more uncomfortable if you have hands on the smaller size. The other would be that with the head stock that's a LOT of weight that the 'Berg won't have. IMO I wouldn't consider any 8 with a headstock due to the extra weight, all that extra wood and extra tuning machines is gonna make it less comfortable. Headless is a must on any ERG's IMO.
