Best excursion in Ketchikan is flightsseeing Over the misty fjords. We have been on several Alaskan cruises. For this we went off the ship and found the flight seeing and bargained the man down For the last two seats on the small plane, seaplane, which landed on a lake. Beautiful. On a cruise like this pick One expensive excursion that involves helicopter or a small plane so you can see what it's like to fly over the beautiful scenery and maybe land on a glacier or somewhere. Then for the other ports, pick one whale watching, and one port where are you walk around the town such as Skagway, and maybe do a bus trip out into the wilderness or go to a salmon bake too. That way you've hit the high points and it's not costing you too much. Definitely book excursions off the ship to save money.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're thrilled to be your favorite cruisers. Your support means a lot to us, and we'll continue to create content that you enjoy. ❤️🚢
Great vlog guys! My father graduated HS in Juneau and he always remarked about the extraordinary cost of living. I think he said a gallon of milk or a dozen eggs were around $7-10 each. Their house was just a mile from the glacier in the 1980’s, so him and his siblings would swim in the glacier water every summer. The glacier has receded significantly since then, but that was a huge source of their memories and love for the land. They would fish at 3:00am in the midnight sun during the summer, too.
Just letting you know that I live in Juneau and milk is $3.50, eggs have been a bit higher because of the egg shortage, but again normally around $3.50
Thanks for sharing your cruise on Norwegian. We just returned from our Alaska trip-land and sea on Holland America line. HA has their own hotels and resorts, together with Princess cruises. We were fortunate with great weather. Started the land tour in Anchorage, took a train to Denali, toured by bus to Fairbanks, flu Fairbanks to Dawson. Explored Dawson gold mining area with visit to dredges from 1910. Experienced some gold excavation, from Dawson we went to Whitehorse . Denali we explored the national park, saw moose, sheep and a bear. Our last stop was Skagway prior to boarding the ship. Visited old town and the rainforest park above the city, visited the old Whore house, and the miners cemetery. I advise to all who enjoy walking, check out the local trails prior to booking excursions. Happy travels!
There are some times when taking the cruise line excursions are worth it. We took a cruise to Mexico and booked an excursion to the Kohunlich Mayan ruins. Two hours into the deep Yucatan and two hours back. We booked through Disney and it was a fortune, but omg it was spectacular and most of all, I felt very safe with the tour operators. They knew what they were doing, were super nice and very knowledgeable.
Just a tip. You can purchase the flavored instant cappuccino powders to take on your cruises. Doesn't take up much space in packing and when added to nasty coffee it can save your day. Just a teaspoon per cup. Thank me later. Lol.

We have an Alaskan cruise booked for May 2024 and are finding you are so right. The excursion are so expensive. Trip is really adding up to be the most expensive ever.
One thing to bear in mind with both Alaska and Hawaii is that cost of living is VERY high as compared to mainland US (maybe due to cost of getting supplies to those areas?). This probably impacts cost of excursions pretty significantly.
Well that plus the fact that Alaska has a very short tourism window. They need to get as many sales as possible in the summer because there are no cruises in the winter.
Correct. I used to work for one of the cruise lines, and learned firsthand that the costs of supporting and maintaining the ships up in Alaska are exorbitant compared to elsewhere.
Alaska tourism charges 3x the standard price. Its 3 months to make a living and those ships scream tourist. Juneas, ketchican, skagway have mini town that rip off tourists. The stores that sell tanzafuknite says it all. Coifee. Leave the usa and its better
Thank you, Ben and David, for helping me get over my fear of taking a cruise. My first cruise is booked for November!!! Love EVERYTHING about the two of you and have recommended your videos to so many people!
Alaska has been my favorite cruise destination so far. Went back in 2016 on Royal Caribbean. For our shore excursion we took a helicopter ride, landed on the Mendenhall Glacier, then hiked across the ice. We had a gorgeous blue sky day. Spectacular views! An experience I will never forget. And sadly, with the rate the glaciers are receding, one I'll probably never get to experience again.
We just cruised on the Spirit to Alaska at the beginning of August. I agree with you on several things, Alaska is extraordinarily beautiful! Norwegian needs to step up their coffee game! They force people to go to Starbucks, which I'm not a big fan of. Alaska does have plenty of coffee shops however. Excursions are so expensive so choose wisely. Many towns are worth just wandering around, you never know who or what you will come across! Great job guys!

Thank you for showing us around Juneau. I really enjoyed seeing the shops and the scenery. Also at 5:36 the ship against the backdrop of the mountains looks so beautiful
When we were checking into our hotel in Juneau, a mama bear and her cubs just strolled up the streets outside the lobby. If you ever go back to Juneau, try the Tracy Arm tour. It was beautiful.
When I went through training with Alaska airlines they warned us that we were not allowed to go outside of any hotel and go jogging because unfortunately several flight attendants have been chased by moose!🫎

Did the Alaska cruise on Celebrity a few years ago from Vancouver. Celebrity was wonderful however having grown up on Vancouver Island, sailing in these waters, our wildlife and scenery is spectacular in itself. Orcas, humpbacks, cougars, bears, deer, bald eagles. The scenery was familiar but it certainly was nice to be pampered. Love your vlogs, I could watch you all day. Cruising is definitely different than yachting.
We love these guys, always entertaining. We've cruised to Alaska three times. First with NCL, then HAL and Princess. The first time we thought it would be a once in a lifetime event so we booked excursions that we thought we would never do again because of their costs. We flew helicopter up onto the Sawyer glacier, walked around on the glacier and watched the glacieal water run beneath our feet! Then we Zip Lined down a mountain with stops in the trees where we could watch bears below in the forest. Oh, and the whale tours!!!! Yes, we did those each time we went back and was always very lucky to see many whale sightings and several BREACHES! We kayaked across a bay over to an island once, booked a bike ride (20+ miles downhill) down from the Yukon border to Skagway. Oh, and so much more adventures. So glad we did it when we were a bit younger. I recommend going back again and again. There is always something new and different to do and see.
Nice! Ben's rendition of a cowboy coming out of that Saloon sounded just like comic Genius Benny Hill when he would do a bit as an old west cowboy. Classic!
Took our first cruise ever to Alaska the end of April 2024! It was amazing! Hubby and I have been talking about a transatlantic cruise Hawaii/Alaska combo like this one! First time watching your channel with this series! I love it!
‘Gentle Ben’ was a US children’s series about a lovely friendly bear. Our Ben seems even lovelier and friendly 😂 Great vlog as always in your company fellas 😊 and lovely looking dinner. Huge dinner with a huge pizza as ‘appetizer’ ! Wobbly bolognese would’ve done me.

I'm with David. No coffee, no talkie!🤭☕👍👍 I love that you got to ride in an "American school bus." It's the little unexpected experiences that make for a really special trip.❤
Laughed at the Earl Gray comments, and the Egg muffin trial. A London fog is Earl Gray that is doctored up with Vanilla Syrup and foamed milk or whipped cream and is like taking coffee and turning it into a Mocha. Delicious, but more a treat than a drink. Thanks for all your wonderful content🚢⚓️🏔️
We use Shore Excursions Group our tours that we had in Alaska were a fraction of the cruise line. It always depends on what you want to do. Shore Excursions deals with the locals directly. We enjoyed the tours we did through them.
We loved our cruise to Alaska, thanks for taking us back and letting us hang out with our favorite two cruisers. Misty Fjord the drag queen? Funny stuff David! 😊
Also, we sailed on the Princess Dawn, years ago, to Alaska. We were able to dock at each port. To stand on the ship, and see the splendor of the glaciers, was truly a religious experience. Whales swam next to our ship, as we sailed. We also found delicious Seattle's Best coffee, at every port!!
I’m 100% British and I only really drink Marquis Grey Tea (a close relative of EGT) , but I only know a few other people who drink it😊. Thanks for all the entertaining and informative vids!
the film quality at minute 10:47 is wonderful!! I'm watching on my computer on full screen and the shot of the whale and then of David is so professional. your vids are great and I look forward to watching every week!
We just moved back to the west coast-ish from Pennsylvania. We're from Seattle and we cannot wait to be able to drive to either Seattle or Vancouver and hop on a cruise to Alaska! I truly have enjoyed this series from you guys! Thank you for all your work putting these together for our viewing pleasure.
In case you didn't know you can also take a ferry from Bellingham to Alaska and you can camp out on the deck in your tent. It's supposed to be really fun. I took a cruise to Alaska with princess Cruise line for my mother's 80th Bday. It was fun. I also used to go and fly to Alaska quite often for work because I worked with a large watch company. Had a bunch of accounts from the cruise ships and other Jewelers in the area. My little tip to everyone do not grow to the cruise gift shops and the crewship ran gift shops on the main drag of every port. Find the local guy who's struggling to make ends meet and buy your products and services from them.. They're going to be a little deeper into town because they can't afford be right on front street. That's all pretty much cruise ship people and people who are there to gouge tourists. If you go a little deeper into town a little bit off that beaten path are all those other stores. You will find the native shop owners and they are phenomenal people!
Awesome video! Alaska is on my bucket list. Only time I've been to Alaska was on my way to Japan back in 1986 when I was moving there as one of my US Navy duty stations. Only was in Anchorage a few hours, kept thinking I wanted to see more of Alaska. I loved all the beautiful video you showed, was so breathtaking.
I like green tea and the Earl Gray tea, while my friend likes Lady Gray tea. Thanks, you're nice, funny and informative, you complement each other and we like you very much indeed. Have fun and look after yourselves.
I have been dropping heavy hints about going to Alaska since watching your video - married 33 years this year - husband looking at me like 😱😱😱 he’ll change his mind I’m sure once he’s seen your YT video ❤
Good luck! After 39 years of marriage finally got my husband to agree to AK cruise in 3 weeks. We booked ax excursion for each port but picked the least expensive ones. Do you know if there’s any problem with taking some food off the ship for snacks?
OMG The Hanger. Had the yummiest fish and chips there. The Alaskan Beer Company has good beer also. In front of the Tram on the boardwalk there is a design where they have the "globe" nailed into the boardwalk. It's so cool.
We cruised to Alaska last summer and I was in awe of th beauty. The excursions were astronomical but this was a once in a l ife time opportunity so we splurged at one or two. The whale watching was well worth the price!
I was there in early May on the NCL Encore, and it was amazing! Weather was great, except for some drizzle in Ketchikan. Couldn't recommend it more. Walking on the Mendenhall Glacier was a bucket list event for me.
Love your vids! I'm one of those shuttle/bus drivers for Ward Cove running people into Ketchikan this summer! Wish you hadn't come so early in the season, before I got here! 7 miles into Ketchikan and we try to give great commentary all the way! You were lucky to be on one of NCL's smaller ships, the Bliss and Encore get a much shorter day in Ketchikan.
Another awesome vlog!! Haven’t done an Alaskan cruise but look forward to it! Spent some time in Alaska when I was flying and enjoyed it! Thank you Ben and David!! You are the best!!
We took the public bus in Juneau to Mendenhall Glacier, US$2 each way. However the bus stop to the Glacier Visitor centre was a 20mins walk. Well worth it consider the saving $$$.
The cost is partly because of the remote location as compared to the lower 48 states, the same as Hawaii. Great video series. The lack of wildlife is due to the time of year. This cruise looks like something we would love.
Alaska always rather dreary, no matter time of year. Did cruise end of August and had rain almost every day. Thanks for sharing some new venues in these ports!
Great end to this long cruise, and now you guys are in Iceland! Anyway, our best cruiser friends are taking the opposite of this cruise in September, back from Alaska to Hawaii. I must tell them to watch this whole series in reverse order! They also lucked out and saw a price drop on a suite after their final payment, so they jumped on it and will cruise in style!
I learned how to drink tea in London, and the lady recommended Earl Grey, so yes, I ❤ Earl Grey, and the many variations of citrusy black tea. 🙂 I also love black tea but I have to have it with milk and sugar.
The main Buffett was always insane when my mom and I were on our NCL cruise to Alaska. We ate almost all our breakfasts on the back of the boat at an outside Buffett. It was so nice, weather wasnt bad and not many people.
That sounds like a fantastic way to enjoy breakfast on your NCL cruise to Alaska! Avoiding the crowds and dining outside with a view of the scenic surroundings can be such a memorable experience. Sometimes, finding those less crowded spots can make a big difference in enhancing your cruise experience. We're glad to hear you and your mom had a great time on your cruise. Happy cruising! 🚢😊
Glad I've watched this as we did the last Alaskan cruise of the season two years ago and so much of the things we had booked got cancelled due to the weather. Plane trip to the Glacier? Cancelled. Whale watching at Icy Strait? Cancelled. Woodland trail in Icy Strait point? Cancelled. Nice to have seen some of the things we missed
I lived in Anchorage for a couple of years and I loved my time there other than driving in the snow 😂. It’s second nature for me now, but coming from never driving in the snow, it was a tough first winter lol.
You're Alaska videos are great. Thanks a lot. The whale tours are a "hit or miss" -- sometimes you see lots of them; other times none (depends on the time of year and their migration). And the laws are pretty strict about how close your boat can get to them. The most whales I've seen at one time was just off St. John's, Newfoundland (a terrific city, IMO).
I am always surprised by how expensive things are in Alaska also but honestly the tourism reason is only part of it, in reality everything and I mean everything has to be shipped in by plane or ship. So naturally everything will be more expensive, Alaska has one of if not the highest cost of living of all of the United States. Glad you guys had fun there even if it was a bit pricey.
Cost comparing whale watching tours as of right now the prices showing for Juneau were 165-189 USD range per adult. For Seattle and San Juan Island area it was showing 125-145 USD per adult
Yes Ben... I've been to Alaska and 'everything' is more expensive there. I was fortunate enough to go on float planes and get to actually fly them with an instructor and film wild bears, although I was with friends, not cruising. A very memorable time. And although summer, at times I still wore 2 pairs of pants, 3 tops and a jacket lol. I love watching you and David in all your cruise vids. They're awesome!
That’s a shame you didn’t see many. Our whale watching trip was very good. We saw a lot of whales and the commentary was very good. It was a ship excursion. We were very happy with all of our ports and excursions. It was our first cruise so we did the ship ones. It was Celebrity Solstice and before the rockfall at Skagway so docked there as well as Ketchikan and the usual other ports.
That sounds like a fantastic experience! Seeing a lot of whales and having informative commentary makes for a memorable whale watching excursion. We're glad you had a great time on your first cruise and enjoyed the ports and excursions. 🚢🐳🗺️
John Muir, the famous naturalist, wrote in his journal that “…you should never go to Alaska as a young man because you’ll never be satisfied with any other place as long as you live.” He was right. He was also a Scotsman.🩷
I'm so happy you enjoyed Alaska. I've been there 3 times and was fortunate with great weather twice, and fog/overcast skies the last year. It's always wonderful, but much better when the sun's out. It's a shame you didn't get to really walk Ketchikan. I"m always disappointed when it takes time to get from the port to the town. When I was there last year, in Skagway they'd had a landslide at the dock and it was closed, so we had to tender. We were really lucky because several cruises cancelled the port because of that. It's the best port and the best view of what the old Alaska was. Safe travels!
Thank you so much! We absolutely loved our time in Alaska, and you're right, the weather can make a big difference in the experience. We were fortunate to have some sunny days, but even with overcast skies, the beauty of Alaska still shines through. It's a shame we didn't get to explore Ketchikan more, but we'll cherish the memories we made on this trip. Safe travels to you too, and we hope you have many more amazing adventures in the future! 🚢🌞🏔️
When I lived in the UK it was my English colleagues who introduced me to Earl Grey tea. I’ve never had it before now, of course, it’s very popular in the United States. But all my friends in the UK drink EARL AGREY and whenever I visit, that’s always the teA they have so I think it must be REGIONAL thing then I lived in Buckinghamshire and my friends live in Warwickshire now, I always bring home world grey tea from England. Glad you enjoyed your Alaska journey. It’s one of my favorite places to visit.

Tracys Crab Shack had the best tasting crablegs..will go back to Alaska just for some crablegs, so sweet.
I was so happy today. It's a new video day! My husband makes the popcorn 🍿 and we sit down and watch the show. We really enjoy your videos! The Alaska trip has been amazing to watch. ❤
Thanks for the feedback! We really appreciate your support and love seeing you enjoy our videos. It means a lot to us that you're part of our journey. Keep the popcorn coming, and we'll keep sharing our adventures with you! 🥰🚢🍿
David! We always love your comments but Earl Grey Tea? We love it!!! And from the uk x
Love love Hawaii and Alaska, great videos, beautiful scenery pictures. ❤️🇨🇦👍🛳️
The Gold Belt Tram has a beautiful museum and restaurant at the top that goes with the ride.
I love this series! Otters are my favorite animal!!!🦦🦦🦦❤️
It was very enjoyable, and you answered all the questions I needed to,thank you ,Ben and David ,you two are the best ❤
I'm with David. No coffee, no talkie!🤭☕👍👍 I love that you got to ride in an "American school bus." It's the little unexpected experiences that make for a really special trip.❤
Thank you for your honesty. Love you guys ❤
Thank you for taking me back to Alaska. I think I need to make this a yearly trip! Glad you enjoyed it!
We loved our cruise to Alaska, thanks for taking us back and letting us hang out with our favorite two cruisers.
Misty Fjord the drag queen? Funny stuff David! 😊
😄 Thanks for watching and hanging out with us on our adventures! 🚢🏔️
I loved that Misty Fjord joke too. Hysterical!
Thank you so much for the kind words
Now a Canadian but born and raised in Bolton. Absolutely agree,it’s all about PG tips for me and even my Canadian husband 😊
I like green tea and the Earl Gray tea, while my friend likes Lady Gray tea. Thanks, you're nice, funny and informative, you complement each other and we like you very much indeed. Have fun and look after yourselves.
New video from Ben and David!? I am here for it and ready to treat myself!
Go for it!
Good point on the shore excursions. I felt the train trip out of SKAGWAY WAS WORTH IT. BEST TO GO ON YOUR OWN.
Love Alaska, the red dog saloon is brilliant 😊
Alaska is one of my favorite trips. It’s so relaxing and beautiful but yes it’s expensive
Such a fantastic vlog series your happiness just radiates through to us certainly now on my cruising list to visit Alaska!!
Lovely watching Stef’s vlog of this, with you cheeky boys in the background 😂
I love you guys. I'm an American who has been to 49 of our states. Thank you for bringing me along to STATE #50!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
I love the smaller ships. Celebrity Summit and Infinity are gems, too.
So glad you went to the falls, we going to book this excursion for this summer.
Both times in that port we ate Crab Legs at Tracy's Crab Shack and they were AMAZING!! Yummy...
I learned how to drink tea in London, and the lady recommended Earl Grey, so yes,
I ❤ Earl Grey, and the many variations of citrusy black tea. 🙂 I also love black tea but I have to have it with milk and sugar.
So glad you enjoyed Alaska. It was a bucket list cruise for me and so worth it.
Absolutely love Ben and David’s vlog! You guys are totally awesome!
Love watching you two your so honest and upbeat keep up the good work
Glad I've watched this as we did the last Alaskan cruise of the season two years ago and so much of the things we had booked got cancelled due to the weather.
Mendenhall glacier is best done by taking a taxi or a shuttle to the Glacier and spending your day there.
LOL David. Looks so sleepy it reminds me of my husband Dave. At least your David isn't grumpy. Misty Fjords was where we saw orcas on our tour
Earl Gray tea over coffee every time!!
Next time take Princess they have some long port times in Juneau. It’s worth it to go back to Mendenhall Glacier and walk to nugget falls.
This is amazing, I just got off 11 days in Alaska, and we used allot of your suggestions to go by. It felt nice to see the video of yours and dream that we were all in the same place. It was an amazing cruise, Thanks for your suggestions
Really enjoyed this series. I want to go to Alaska now. Thanks guys!
