In this video I have tried to answer a question you guys have been asking me for quite a while - which are my favorite endgame books.

This channel has 30x more subscribers than Dan Heisman's channel. This channel and that channel are on different planes of existence when it comes to being underrated.

What are your thoughts on "Silman's Complete Endgame Course?"
It's also good IMO.
I will say if your rating less then 1500 definitely you should start with silmans complete end game course.He wrote this book as very simple and understandable. For intermediate players also it would be a good book .
it’s a very nice book i progressed from 1000 to about 1500 in a few months because i simply can beat my opponents in the endgame
It is really really good...though I think the best thing to do is to study 100 endgames you must know along with Silmans complete endgame course....an advantage of Silman's book is that he does not just go into theoretical endgames but also into practical endings...SIlman describes a similar concept of breaking down into simple elements as Jonathan Hawkins....
the best introduction to the endgame there is . even though he (silman) say's you should only read up to your rating category,read the whole thing ,it'll serve as a great base for your endgame training
Theory of chess endings, Panchenko is the best, in my opinion. And very little mentioned. Dvoretskys endgame manual is an absolute classic.
For beginners "Just the facts, Alburt is good, and of course 100 endgames you must know.
Sheresevsky endgame strategy is also great, and Israel Gelfer;s for complex endgames and the way we approach endgame. Aslo amateur to IM is really nice in this field. Van Perlo is great for practising. An old classic is Keres Practical endgames. If you are high level then Capa, Botvinnik or Karpov on endgame are great books to analyse.

Chess Endings: Essential Knowledge - Averbakh, at just over 100 pages it's good as a primer if you want the basics quickly.
Practical Chess Endings - Paul Keres, is exceptionally organized.
This is what I'm using right now as an 800 noobie player. So far I think it is perfect. Do you like Averbakh as an author compared to others? What other books on other parts of the game do you recommend that are similar to the style/structure of his endgame book? Same author, or others.
@@Triathletep It's more about the material and how it's presented rather than the author. Kotov was a good author. Of course there are the modern day authors, which are needed especially for current opening theory.
As you mentioned, I have the purpose of really following the instructions and finishing at least from this moment and looking at the end of the books, it does not matter the time to attend the advice that the book gives us greetings
"Understanding Chess Endgames" by John Nunn. How about this book. This book also claim 100 ideas (positions?) on endgames. In the content page it is showed that thematically arrange, K+P ending, Rook ending, bishop endings (same and opposite colors), bishop vs knight etc. How this is in compare to De La Villa's book?

Well I agree with you about the Hawkins book.It was very good.and who would dispute about Dvoretsky.
It's the bible although some go with Muller& Lamprecht.However,I always have the sense that Europeans
think it's the amount of work you do rather than what you do .There seems to be an emphasis on memory
rather than concepts mastered.In that regard,I found a work by the American GM Andy Soltis "Grandmaster

I always wanted Paul keres famous endgame book
I would add a book on practical endgames (like Shereshevsky's) and a book on endgame tactics (like van Perlo's)

What about 'Capablanca's endgames by Chernev' . Im currently reading it. Its simple and concise.
Searching for those books, I noticed that last year came out also 100 Endgames You Must Know Workbook, which may turn out to be a nice complement to Villa's first book.

:100 Endgames you must know" is a great choice. I am going through "100 Endgames you must know Workbook" is a great follow-up. It has puzzles from games which lead to theoretical positions indexed to first book. Both books on Chessable.

Theory of chess endings (Panchenko) and Strategy of endgames (Shereshevski) are the best ones by far, imho, but it's all very subjective of course.

Dvoretsky's book is aimed at 2200+ I think he said that in an interview
@Davi Moreira Ah! We'll, you could take a look at 100 endings you must know and maybe when you're strong enough u could use tue book. I am close to 2000 strength and bought Dvoretsky's book. Tbh, I still feel a little out of my depth!
@Davi Moreira You can read and try to understand the blue colored (or highlighted in grey for 5th edition) text.
That part covers the basic concepts and is much easier to understand.

after his video ( last Thursday ) about middle game I bought "Understanding Chess Middlegames" by John Nunn. I'm lucky that I already have "100 Endgames You Must Know"!
Hi I agree with your recommendations but I feel they are too advanced for people under 1800.
For me what was useful and more accessible to say even a 1200 were:
Understanding chess endgames by John Nunn. Contains 100 chapters with 2-4 positions you must absolutely know, in each chapter.
For how to play with the endgame in mind (how to navigate the late middlegame to endgame transition and how to have some basic technique and basic plans in the endgame), I found Kotov's Think Like A Grandmaster book- endgame section. And also, later on How to Play Chess Endings by Znosko Borovsky ( instead of giving you the theoretical endgames to reach in order to draw, or win, takes master games and shows how they were played and why they were played that way towards the known theoretical endgame)
Finally, for practice, I found Chernev's Practical Chess Endings and Nunn's endgame exercise book really good. These train your analysis and visualization and practical skills.
These 3 groups of books have been upgrading my chess understanding a lot! Once i finished tactics and opening principles.
I agree with your recommendations but I would start them later on for myself personally.

Videos = passive learning. Should be used with moderation, as you dont solve the problems, but other people does it tô you.
i was expecting endgame manual and 100 endgames you must know! nice book reviews but i think you could have added silman's complete endgame course book which is for biggeners and intermediate players. I had a question that if I complete the book 100 endgames you must know, is it necessary to solve the workbook of it?
I use the book an endgameexpert by GM Igor Smirnov you can also buy the book with the help of that book now I can convert a equal endgame into a win so it is worth trying out and I hope you like it .

I have a question for you. I watched John Bartholomew and Magnus Carlsen take the endgame test for 100 endgames you must know. He said something like the Bayes or Beyer rule. I am trying to find anything but could not find anything relatable. It has something to do with Pawn Endgames if I am not mistaken. Do you know the rule?

I don’t agree. If you read Silman’s complete endgame course, you are in my opinion ready for Dvoretsky’s endgame manual. Yes it will still be a little too hard, but it will force you to actually think. The special thing about chess is that you should THINK by yourself. Don’t forget that...
