This worked like a charm and brought my 20 year old DL4 back from the brink! The switches have a nice modern feel now & I’m super happy about it. Thanks!!
Just chiming in to say thanks. The stock switches finally crapped out on me and I decided to try replacing them myself. This was my first soldering job and a little intimidating, but the video helped me through everything and I just turned her back on with perfect results. Appreciate the post very much.
This took me about 2.5 hours to do with my MM4 pedal. Getting those old switches off the circuit board was a nightmare, even with soldering braid and took the majority of the time. Other things to be aware of are matching up the red LED's to the holes because they will move as you're working on getting the switches back in place etc. Also watch out for those little pieces of metal that were in the holes where the old switch posts lined up. PITA to remove without sandpaper etc. At the end of it all everything works and hopefully the pedal doesn't crap out again : ) Thanks for the vid!
i just bought a bunch of components from Mammoth to do these upgrades as well as the expression switch upgrade. One thing I found with the four footswitch upgrades is, I have an older MM4, it has the Line 6 logo molded into the top front, not on a metal plate. Anyway, the connections Isaac seems to be making are vertically oriented, connecting the switch terminals to two pcb holes that are on top of each other. I tried it this way and it didn't work. However, on another vid, I saw a guy modding the same MM4 I have, and he oriented the connections in a horizontally and diagonally, meaning bottom left hole to top right. I'm not sure if this a versioning difference, or if the DL4 is designed a bit differently. Short story is, the connection works now. Just a bit of FYI in case you have the same issue.
Pretty good tutorial, but after watching several times and following the steps to a T, I found there to be one critical flaw. Upon reassembly, I noticed the new switches did not allow the circuit board to sit flush against the screw holes. This means the on/off LED lights do not sit properly in the light cavity on the housing. Starting at the 10:40 mark in the video, I noticed that the lights on his demo pedal cannot be seen either, and he never actually shows the pedal powering on and off. The only way I could get the circuit board to sit close enough with the lights being high enough so they are visible in the green housing was to remove all the locking (split) washers from the switches. This raised the switches ever so slightly, which allowed the lights to be visible. However BE CAREFUL, as the circuit board is still not 100% flush with the screws holes, and tightening it too much could crack the board. Lastly, this took about 3+ hours. Best of luck.
How important is that specific haako soldering iron? And what's that weird noise it's making...cause I noticed you have another soldering iron later on in the video
All worked for me, but MM4 still locks up when it gets hot. Thought it might be a footswitch issue, but it has happened since replacing them. Maybe time for a new circuit board?
Good morning, a greeting from Italy, I am looking for the user manual of the "LINE6 dl4" because it does not works and I think it can be the power supply but without the circuit scheme I can not do anything, can you help me? THANKS A LOT
diy mammoth Everything works great except the tap tempo LED after this mod. The tapped tempo does apply to the delay that's engaged, but the LED on the far right tap tempo channel does not light up at all. I thought maybe the LED was damaged, so I put it in a new one, but it still does not work. Thoughts? A reply is much appreciated.
Okay so I'm a noob to modding these things. I just recieved my switches last night and want to give this a go. What kind of wire do I need? I know ones a ground but is there a specific gauge or type I need for both?
Hello, greatings from Argentina, excellent explanation! i have the DL4, MM4 and FM4 i will do it this mod!! so can you teach the mod for "volume" problem in this stompboxes? thank you very much
Hello, very interesting video, thanks for share! I'll do it!! Can you teach about DOD micro switch stomp boxes replacement just like this or BOSS switch? thank you
I offer a comprehensive kit to perform this procedure with all the parts necessary. reverb.com/item/1436160-line-6-dl4-footswitch-replacement-kit-by-the-good-kit-guy

Where’d you find the switches at? And are they normally open or closed momentary?

Christopher Rixon No, just to get the new switches to fit correctly.

awesome video! What kind of switches should i buy? I mean the right model. Congrats for video!
Cool! haven´t used this pedal for a while, it worked for me, thanx a lot!!
Great job❤😮
Brilliant video, so usefull. Thank you very much!
Great video. Will this concept also work for Line 6 M series?

You can use a simple solder sucker instead

Any tips for getting the old switches off? Mine are pretty tough
Zone of the knobs came loose on mine. I was hoping to see how to reinstall it but it was fast forwarded. Any help would be appreciated
Good night, got a DL4 and is not working the TAP TEMPO , what might be going on, some configuration or defective switch? thank you

im curious about this myself, have had the same problem after just completing the switch replacements.

Hello, Thanks for your video. It helped greatly.
Please how can I fix volume drop on my behringer vd400 delay pedal?
get rid of the behringer and buy a real pedal. Behringer is junk. Want a real delay pedal..buy TC Electronics or Eventide.
Hi! Is it possible the same operation on a Line 6 JM4 Looper?
Thanks

Man! you could teach us how to make de double patch mode... where we can save four pressets... I'm looking for it, but I can't find it
fyi, Mammoth Electronics closed business in Nov 2019
Could i change only the switch broken or i have to change all the switches? Thanks.
you can change only one. :)
What is that vibro soldering iron? Does it have a little vacuum in it?
Its a desoldering gun. It has a vacuum pump in it, heats up the solder then sucks it up. An expensive solder sucker.
Jesse Grisham that's awesome. I've never seen one that heats up like that. Gonna have to look into getting one.
You can kinda do the same thing with a $2 solder sucker, it just dosnt heat and suck at the same time.
"! Sorry, the following item is currently out of stock: KFSSPST-MB".
D'oh!
There's a video of the switches working?
