Here are some extra tips that I haven't covered in the video. For replacing the headband on Marshall Major 4 and Major 5, I recommend removing the left earcup. It's safer because you disconnect the wires from the battery, and it's easier in terms of soldering. For Major 3, removing the right earcup is easier for soldering but poses the risk of shortening the wires coming from the battery. So make sure the red wire is insulated and doesn't touch any other wires. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
hello, i have MARSHALL MAJOR 4 and i dont want to change the battery I just want to change the headband. is it possible to change the headband without doing anything to the inner part of the battery?
By "Make sure the red wire is isolated " on the marshall 3, do you mean that the whole red wire should be separated from the other wires, like by using tape? Or do you mean when I solder it back I should separate it more from the rest of the wires?
@raseli4066 Apply tape to the exposed part of the desoldered red battery wire. Otherwise, there’s a risk it could touch the black or yellow wire, and you definitely don’t want to find out what might happen.
Thank you for the proffesional quality of the video and the technical specifics. Most people dont know what polarity evеn means. You should have seen the only other video on youtube for changing the headband. What a disaster. I was dissapointed and then found yours. Hope never dies. Imma sub.
do you have any tip on how to squeeze headband on monitors? ther're paralon cussions that prevents headband from sliding... should i do i soapit? or put it in a plastic bag and vacuuming air frot it, to make more room?
I have a question!!! Can you build a stereo harness for a car that will just let you plug the phone or iPad in and cradle the device to charge and play music directly to speakers by usb.. yeah just a usb port to plug your phone or iPad into instead of standard stereos.. simple bare bones
This cable will help you: alii.pub/70454n It can transmit audio to your car audio system and charge your phone at the same time. All you need to do is simply connect the cable to your phone and enjoy your music.

If you're having trouble removing the old headband, simply cut it along its length with scissors. Be sure to make the cut on the underside-the part that touches your head-to avoid damaging any internal cables.
@ukulelerockk As shown in the video, the battery is soldered to a small PCB. Batteries with connectors are only available for Major 4 and 5 models. If you're unable to solder a new battery in place, you can simply cut the wires from the old battery midway and then attach the new battery to the existing wires. Be sure to properly insulate the connections using electrical tape or scotch tape.
They are all interchangeable since Major 4. The amazon Link is actually how Major 5 earpads look like. Major 4 has slightly different design but anyways they are all compatible and look almost the same.
Inside the headband, there's a metal wire for added stiffness. It might be bent out of shape, which could explain why your headphones aren't holding well. You'll need to remove the headband, carefully adjust or re-bend the wire, and that should help the headphones fit more securely again.
To bed there is not the Tutorial to replaced the MicroUSB with usbc Port. I will definitely try to replace it anyways. Shall I try and create a video tutorial while doing that?
The USB-C port is longer and larger than a micro-USB port, so it’s nearly impossible to retrofit it properly without using a lot of thermal glue and exposed wiring. I highly doubt anyone would bother attempting such an upgrade-what’s the point, anyway?
@ElectronicsComputers thx for the tips. I didn't open my Major 3 yet and did not know that. Well I wanted to give them away to a friend but who has micro usb cables laying around in 2024?
I now know the temperature isn't everything. You can destroy your tips by using a high temperature or keeping them hot while not in use. In that case use a reactivator or buy new ones.
The main chip in these headphones is very delicate and can fail instantly if you did something wrong, with no replacement available. There's also an EEPROM chip with firmware, but replacing it is pointless since the firmware is unobtainable. Your best options are to remove the battery and use the headphones as wired-only, find a cheap used pair to swap boards, or get a universal Bluetooth audio board for $3 that supports battery charging, which is the easiest and cheapest solution. Here's the link: alii.pub/738hrg
@ElectronicsComputers thank you again for you taking your time and give me an fantastic answer. Update: I was in luck, nothing was shorted, one of the solderings wasn't properly done so just had to redo it and they started working again 😊
Not the best design... so many tiny cables running thru headband look like planned obsolescence. Hiding battery in the right ear would eliminate 3 unnecessary cables

@wildyriftian You still have to desolder several wires from the PCB next to the battery. Otherwise, it's impossible to replace the headband.

Thank you for the video. That's the reason why I decided to buy these headphones. 👍🏼
I'm happy to help! Marshall headphones are fully repairable, and you can purchase nearly all the components needed for them.
Amazing info, which confirms I'll not be buying Marshall headphones ever again 😅

Are there headband replacing steps the same for a wired Major 3?

My major 4s are not as tight as they used to, sometimes they fall from my head while working out, what can i do?

How hot did you guys solder? I used about 350 degrees Celsius. But nothing melted.
@jakal13 Well, in my soldering iron 350C setting works, but it doesn't reflect the real tip temperature. So, just set it higher to 400C.
I now know the temperature isn't everything.

I cant remove the battery from the marshall headphone, it seems glued stuck
If you only need to replace the headband, there's no need to touch the battery at all.

¡Me alegro de haberte podido ayudar!
Nice work.
Thank you!
do you really need to unsolder the cable just to get the headband off? :(
No, if your goal to take the headband off, you can just cut it out with your scissors or knife without even disassembling your headphones.
what if i have the same exact headband replacement thou, since it doesnt open up easily
@@gyatan_0 i’ve got the same sentiments. I didn’t realize how complicated changing the headband would be :(
If I accidentally shorted something..what would I have too replace to fix it? 😅😂
