My first is an XE-1. I still have it but I've recently bought the X-T10.
I don't miss the rangefinder style so much since the X-T10 is hardly heavier or bulkier, and it still preserves the handy flash on the top.
What I really appreciate as upgrades:
-electronical shutter. Taking a picture wide open wasn't possible during daylight, it's really an important feature I didn't even know I could appreciate so much
-tilting screen allows me to take some shots that would be impossible otherwise without laying on the ground and the X-E2 is missing this
    -more customizable buttons, finally
-wifi transfer is much easier and comfortable
-af is faster and more precise, even if I won't use is so much it's nice to have together with a updated faster processor
    -classic chrome is nice.
I'm undecided about selling the XE-1 now, I wanted to keep it for the first x-trans sensor but I don't think it will see much use

Nice presentation! Cameras such the X-E2 are timeless tools for photography. The 2014 onwards era gave us mature digital cameras with, basically, nothing that need to update or upgrade for casual photography! The image quality is excellent for screens or moderate size prints. The AF is up to the task. Build quality is great! I feel the same about my Sony a6000, a 2016 model, that has everything i need today: brilliant 24mp sensor, one of the best AF (was the best in the industry back then) and perfect ergonomics and lens selection.
Sure, newer models are better but those older cameras are of great value today.

I've just purchased an XE2s to add to my current XT4. I intend to use it with a TTartisan 25/f2 manual lens, primarily for B&W street/architecture pics. I wanted something smaller and with a pancake lens, I think I'll be able to EDC it rather easily. Thank you for the review!

I have 6 Fujifilm cameras with a pair of X-T3 bodies as my most modern, and then going back to the X-Pro2 and X-T2 vintage. However, my daily carry has for the last year been the X-E2s. It's the same processor and sensor as the 2 but with all the firmware updates installed and a few external tweaks.
I love this camera. It gives me the most film-like rendering as any digital camera that I have used. I do use JPEGS on this body. I have my film simulations fully tweaked and I get consistent and repeatable results everytime. I only use Classic Chrome and Mono with the parameters (highlight, shadow, color, sharpness, etc) adjusted by trial and error.
I use the much maligned 18mm f/2 a lot on this body and the lower resolution and early sensor really look good with this lens. The 27mm is also great for a compact kit.
One thing for me, I didn't get a grip but I did buy the lensmate thumbgrip. This makes all the difference for me in terms of balance and security in one hand operation. If I remove the thumbgrip, the camera feels awkward in the hand now... couldn't live without it.
The X-E2s is one purchase that I never regretted.

I have to say that Fuji cameras seem like they never get outdated from an image quality standpoint. Part of this might be Fuji's focus on image quality versus the competition (which seems to be more focused on packing their cameras with the latest features, even if that means sacrificing some image quality). I mean I know people who still shoot with older cameras like the XT1 and have no intentions of upgrading because they are still very happy with the camera, now some 6+ years later. Granted, imaging technology does change over time, but I feel that Fuji's seem to be semi-immune to the hype. Part of this might be because they are also a shooting experience (somewhat similar to that of the film days), more so than a powerhouse shooting machine like some of the cameras from Canon, Sony, and NIkon. They aren't usually the fastest cameras out there, but they do give you a bit of a different experience than what the others are doing (Nikon has delved into this realm a little with the Zfc but I still feel that the Fuji APS-C cameras are still better).

Love the x-e2 and the ergonomics suit me. Considering your criticisms you should likely pick up an xt1, same sensor, same size with modest weather sealing, better viewfinder and flip up screen. Picking up the xt1 after later xt bodies it jumps out how compact it is.

Hello,Matt. I found one online but the rear command dial is malfunctioning. Will I be able to navigate the camera menus without relying on the dial?

    • @MattJacobs
      @MattJacobs  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes you will, you just won’t be able to assign shutter speed or ISO to the rear command dial. Also, if you’re shooting with an auto focus lens that does not have an aperture ring you will not be able to adjust the aperture as I believe the rear command dial is the only way to do that
