Little info : you can cook the sugar differently to use it differently. You can have a hard wax, a soft wax etc depending on what you prefer. Look a bit more into it. And we also avoid applying it in the direction of the hair growth to pull it opposite. We apply it against the hair growth to make sur the wax fully coats the hair and really grabs it from the root, to pull it in the direction of the hair growth to avoid breaking the hair.

  • @mehreenhassan93
    @mehreenhassan93 ปีที่แล้ว +70

    1. Follow the recipe measurements exactly, I just cooked it for a few minutes longer to get the color in the video because I started with very low heat (it was my first time so I was scared to over cook it).
    2. I placed my glass container in a warm water bath for at least 10 minutes before pouring in the hot wax.
    3. After pouring the wax and placing the lid, I drained a little bit of the warm water and started adding ice cubes (five to six cubes every 10 seconds) so that there is not temperature shock.
    4. After two hours my wax got very hard so I placed it in very hot water bath for about 9 minutes and melted right away. Again be careful with temperature change slowly add very hot water so there is no shock.
    5. The wax should be like lava texture it should move pretty slowly in the glass container.
    6. Apply a very very thin layer in the direction of your hair on your face/ body and then remove it with a wax strip.
    7. I have saved the remaining wax in my pantry (if you are scared on ants or bug attacking it, sprinkle some cinnamon around it)
    8. Happy waxing!

making sugar wax is not fail proof. like making candy, elevation and room temperature effect cooking times and temperatures. dont give up if you fail the first few times, just learn what works for you. the cooking times will also be different depending on if you want to use wax strips or the "flick method", which requires harder wax and a slightly longer cooking time. i recommended watching some longer videos before attempting this, there is more information that couldn't fit in the minute long video.

As a Tunisian myself, sugaring is the traditional way of taking our hair since forever, we know nothing but it and we learn it as soon as we hit puberty to clean ourselves, I’d just like to say: This is NOT correct, it will NOT take your hair out. You are taking sugaring and turning it into waxing, which you have nice old wax for that 🧐 sugaring does not require wax strips and is candy hard when it’s that cold (the literal translation of the name of the sugaring is “candy” and we say are you doing candy today, and it’s both a code and a known name) yours is WAY undercooked, usually we don’t add water at all when making “candy” we put sugar and lemon juice and cook them until elastic. Caramel elastic. We cool it down and then we work it well to improve the elasticily between our fingers, if it’s a little hard we add a drop of water and keep working it then we sugar every inch of our bodies that has undesirable hair.

Use a candy thermometer and look up the correct temp. You can't judge by color alone. I tried over and over and it was too hard, it kept making lollipops.. when I got a candy thermometer I got it right the first time. And learning how to apply it is also a learning process. I suggest using fabric strips for application if you're a beginner.
That said.. it's sooo much easier and cheaper than normal wax and less painful. And it's water soluable so you can dissolve anything that gets stuck in the hair

Inverted sugar is a great alternative to corn syrup in recipes and for sweetening drinks (though simple syrup also works for that but this stores better)

Better advice for technique: APPLY AGAINST the direction of hair growth. PULL WITH the direction of hair growth, parallel to the surface. This increases the chances of the hairs being pulled out FROM THE ROOT, meaninf you'll be smoother for longer, and decreases the chances of the hair just being ripped off and breaking part way which will result in stubble within a few days.

All my attempts in making sugar wax is a total failure😭
First the sugar wax is too liquidy
And another time, I got the exact caramelised colour as you did and it ended up turning rock hard when it reaches room temperature.
    Pls help😭
Btw, ive got no candy thermometer

The wax strips you used could be soaked in water and the sugar would dissolve right off so you can reuse them next time

Unless you're 100% sure the glass jar can handle the ice bath. Just don't. Let it sit out for an hour or so and it should have cooled down enough to touch. It'll be warm, but not scalding. I tried the ice bath with a fresh off the stove batch once and it burst in the ice water and i cut myself trying to clean it up. 🙃
