Many years ago when I first went to college i got a landline in my dorm room. Unfortunately for me it was a number that some woman had just gotten changed so I kept getting calls for them from: the doctor's office, the dentist, and the person's idiot parents who I guess never got the new number from thir daughter for some reason).
No matter what I told the doctor or dentist office they kept calling me, and the parents were insistent that their daughter was there and that I was stopping her form using the phone. After a few more calls from them I got really pissed off so I told them that their daughter was pissed off at them, had changed her phone number and was now working at the local stripper bar and as a hooker and that any further calls to this number would result in me calling the cops on them for harassment, they stopped calling me after this.
As for the dentist/doctor offices, I just rescheduled the woman's appointments to a week later and asked the doctor to also include a pregnancy test and an STD blood test. The calls from both offices stopped very quickly after that.

Hey Rob regarding "There has to be other people out there who like to screw with people" I worked at a job site once, a restaurant remodel job in San Francisco, where the pay phone on the wall was one digit off to that of the fancy Neiman Marcus store in town. Whenever that pay phone rang it was always someone who was trying to call Neiman Marcus. A competition soon arose to see which of us workers could keep a caller on the line the longest before they realized they were being pranked. Hilarity ensued.

for the cashier that didn't even pay attention: as soon as they gave that lecture i'd have said just five words: "Manager and check cameras please." then i'd have sat back as the Manager came around, got my side, then told them "because of the horrible customer service, not to mention the discrimination by this lady, by lecturing me, a CUSTOMER (btw the all caps for 'customer is meant to be read as emphasis raised voice) about customer service i'm afraid you've now lost a customer for life. Have a good day" and walked away, or limped in the OP's case, but that's just me.

when we first got our phone number we discovered that it was one digit off from a dedicated fax number (later found out the number was for a plumbing supply place). We would get calls from fax machines all the time. SO back then it was common practice for retailers to request/demand your phone number to ring up your sale. Supposedly you would get discounts for this. BS so I started giving the fax number instead of my own. Years later when faxes weren't so popular anymore (except for doctor's offices) the fax number was given to a local Subway. Then I started getting calls from kids calling off sick or other Subways looking for ingredients. I'm guessing that Subway got a different number as I haven't heard from them...of course I stopped answering the phone if I don't recognize the caller ID.

Years ago we had a phone # that was the same BUT different area code to a towing company about 100 miles away. We had to set our answering machine message stating we were not said towing co. and this was a residential #.

I went to dinner once with my in-laws and they invited a friend to come along since her husband was out of town. When the server came to take out orders, she ordered a whiskey on the rocks in a tall glass. When the drinks came out she rudely said to the server "I said a tall glass" as she slammed the glass back onto the tray. The server took it away and came back with her drink in a tall glass. She then took our food orders and when the rude woman ordered her food, she asked her "do you want that in a tall glass?". I had to turn my head to hide my laughter. Best comeback from a server I ever heard in person. Also, rude lady did not say another word to the server all night.

Same about messing with people. Lol. My phone number growing up was the same as a bar and restaurant in the next town over. We were 826, and they were 848. Being young, my siblings and I would take orders. Im sure they hated us at that business.

On the wrong number topic, a few years back I was given a new phone number from my provider that had previously belonged to a lady who used this phone number to build up mountains of debt. I had debt collectors, lawyers, employers, everyone calling to speak to her including her own family. I am male of a different ethnicity so quite often these calls would be in different languages so I tried everything to stop this as often the people that were calling were immediately angry and shouting in a language that I couldn't understand. After about 7 years of calls like this I gave up trying to play nice and every call for her I ended telling the caller that she had passed away. It escalated to the point were I had lawyer's saying that I could have fraud charges laid against me, I was ready for this as I had been recording every call that I received with logging dates and times of me telling them that they had the wrong number and them agreeing to remove my number. Eventually the calls stopped but it took close to 10 years for it to end.

I have imitated a chicken when a karen snapped at me on a grocery store. I was working at a theater nearby where i had helped her so I must work there too. The manager for the next shift at the theater was behind her hunting for his lunch like me. I got a free drink off him for my preformance.

KKC, I would agree with you, but when I was young, we had a phone number that was one digit off from the ER direct dial number. We once found a message on our answering machine from a woman who was in pain, but did not leave a phone number to call back. Can’t really mess with people who are hurt.

The last story, the lady calling must have been older. It sounds like she thought.OP was on a "party line". Years ago more than one household would be on a dedicated line. I don't know how many households, this was a little before my time (I'm 65). If you answered your phone and the caller wanted a different household, you would both hang up and caller would call right back. You obviously would not pick up & instead hope the intended recipient was home to answer the call.

    • @PaulBarwick
      @PaulBarwick 3 ปีที่แล้ว

While several customers shared the same phone line, each had their own distinctive ring, such as "one long, two short" "two long" etc. you were supposed to only pick up calls with your ring, but people being people, it was very common for folks to listen into calls that they knew were not meant for them. Yes, I am that old to remember that.

Snap fingers at me, and I'll answer with one finger, no snapping required. Edit: I'm gonna be honest, if that Karen in the story with the 15 year old had done that to me when I was fifteen, I probably would have bashed her skull into the floor until she stopped moving.
I had anger issues back then. Well, much worse anger issues than I do now. :P

I was in a store watching a very rude dude bullying his way around the store.. Pushing folks out of his way to reach something, talking rudely to older customers to move faster, just a serious A**. Then he made his biggest mistake, he came to me, "Hey! Were the F is this F***ing product?" Do I look like I work here, dipstick, and walk away. He grabs my arm in a feeble attempt to turn me around, I jerk my arm out of his grip, spin around, and grab his lower lip squeezing it, and pulling him closer to my face. "Grab me again, and I break something you don't want broken", I said in a whisper. He ran like a coward to get the manager, we viewed the video tapes, all the video tapes, and he was banned from the store. I was asked not to respond so viciously, sorry but my tolerance levels are slim indeed when it comes to bullies.

There's a Burnt Ends in my town, and three of the last four digits of my new home phone number, is the same as theirs, with the last digit being different. Even with the answering machine I'd get people trying to find out when Burnt Ends opened.
Probably still do, I never answer the phone, and no one leaves voicr messages.

    Rob,
In no way, shape, or form does five years seem excessive for physically battering a child. After mental torture of the same minor, she insisted on escalating despite evidence to the contrary.
Furthermore, intent matters. She wasn't a criminal to survive. She wasn't even trying to gain notariety like other criminals. No, her criminal behavior is borne of pure entitlement. I'd be tempted to add a lifetime of court-ordered therapy to that nickel

My parents and obviously me and my siblings have a Spanish sounding last name but we're enough generations down we don't speak Spanish no more. We would occasionally get people calling in wanting us to do surveys for Spanish stuff but we obviously wouldn't be able to answer any of their questions because they be speaking in Spanish. Now that we have cell phones that doesn't happen anymore by the way did you know that I'm trying to reach you about your car is extended warranty.
I honestly do not know what that means or how that's supposed to be a scam or what they get out of you but ok.
