      @@martinlicht1969 I agree absolutely; need for every tuning one guitar and have to label it to recognize the named tuning; have 60 guitars in my collection, now the trouble starts with which one for which tuning…..luxury problem 😅😅😅

      Same for me Kenneth. I was a sophomore in high school when I first listened to my vinyl “Wish You Were Here” album. It blew me away and made me want to learn all the songs. The opening to “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” still gives me chills.

    Mike, I love your lessons. I've been playing for 35 years and I have about 25 original songs in my current set. Since COVID I've not been able to write any songs so, I decide to learn some covers. About 50% of my covers in my set are songs learned from you! I even have a 15 minute set of original songs in open Dm - And, had no idea Eleanor Rigby and this song was in the same tuning. I can honestly say that watching your video lessons are probably one of the few productive things I do on TH-cam. Otherwise, I'm practicing. You tube can be a rabbit hole of nothing. Also love your vibe and calmness in instruction. I've got a new Marshall Code 50 amp with channel switching pedal someone gave me. Tell me where to send it for Guitars for Veterans. I will send it. There's also THE END and END OF THE NIGHT from the first album by The Doors that used a dropped D minor Tuning. As for Welcome to the machine, I had always played that one in standard tuning but that alternate tuning is indeed what we hear on the record. Nonetheless, I have seen Gilmour play this live and I do believe he uses a standard tuning. I'll have to check to make sure.

    I just started tsking lessons 6 months ago and have learned so much. Never really thought about de-tuning the guitar for different songs. It's been a facinating journey since taking lessons. I like the eery sounds of Pink Floyd's music how they are mostly off key just a little bit. I have two acoustics and now one is tuned for this D-minor tuning. Another avenue to explore to make my head explode. :-)

    Sounds cool in open Dmin - some of these chords really remind me of the song Dogs from the Animals album - I believe at least some of the tracked guitar parts were whole-step detuned (DGCFad) so there's that heavy, moody feel (also a little like Jimi's Machine Gun from the Filmore East New Year's Eve 1969 show, which was in the same territory)

    Mike, great arrangement. Any chance you published your Tabs for this? If so, I'd love to have them. In any case, thanks for sharing this piece.

    Beautiful song that really does good job of capturing the emotion of someone trapped in the meat grinder that can be the American working class and constantly wanting more than you can obtain. Hints at some of the spiritual pitfalls of capitalist materialism that have become a lot more evident in our modern culture as well.

    Question @ 4:48
    "Then it goes to that Major 7th."
    Is that that just a Bb on the 5th string 1st fret, and open 4-1? (And no D on the 6th, right?)

    • @campfire_guitar_lessons
      @campfire_guitar_lessons  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly Arryn. Bbmaj7 in this tuning is X10000.

      @@campfire_guitar_lessons Thanks so much! I had rewatched the chord listing several times, but somehow managed not find it... so I asked. BbMaj7 - Now I know the name too. (I could name the notes, but I'm still struggling with the theory end of things, so the chord name escaped me.)
      Have a good one. And thank you for posting these instructional videos!
      [Found it! It was @ 2:24, right after the Bb. That's what I get for staying in my previous tuning of Down a Full Step (DGCFAD) while following your lesson, and re-imagining what you did, only with the 4th and 5th string slid up two frets.]

    • @campfire_guitar_lessons
      @campfire_guitar_lessons  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s open D tuning, Michael. The f# turns the D minor into a D major. I’ve got multiple lessons on songs using open D.

      Thanks AP. I was amazed at its versatility as I experimented more with it. Especially if you play in D major and use the tuning for easy fingering in of the minor 2nd, and major 4 and 5 chords.
