It kinda makes sense tho since the Worms are flip monsters and it auto destroys any face-down monster it attacks, so it'd only self-destruct if your opponent is willing to miss out on the Worm's flip effect. From a lore PoV think of it as a mine sweeper: it's entire purpose is to destroy the Worms before they awaken so once one wakes up (is face-up) it's no longer any use so it shuts down.

Malacoda funnily enough DID see play and spawned a BA deck of his own... in the OCG. Djinn still roaming around meant that if you could mill Djinn Releaser of Rituals and get access to malacoda and good & evil it was a very good floodgate that you had... consitent-ish access to at the time. A lot of B.E.S. cards have the problem that the deck wants to cycle through its monsters by special summoning them with Boss Rush. The problem? Most of the names only get their counters if they're normal summoned, so you rapidly deplete your resources as they instantly die after combat. On top of Boss Rush actively preventing your normal summons.

    • @7sonicmario
      @7sonicmario 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

You can use their lack of counters to your advantage. By attacking and losing one of the ships that doesnt get counters with special summoning, you can get one of the other better ships, sometimes multiple if you have multiple boss rushes in effect.

@dinosore_rs I was playing a ton of Branded Buster Blader when Branded Fusion was still at 3; nobody was excited to see Dragon Buster get sent from Deck for the Lubellion summon lol
I'd still recommend checking it out; there are some fun interactions; like using Albaz while you have Buster Dragon on board to summon Alba-Lenatus for a board wipe (the old D-Link counter, but you can do it to anyone lol)
There are a ton of inconsistencies in the archetype, but they aren't terribly hard to work around (I just really hate that Whelp's search is only on NS)
And to be fair, a lot of the cards are very underrated; for example, have you read Destruction Swordsman Fusion? It's a good card, but there are just two options to summon off of it
And Karma was the funniest card to run during Tear format (now that I think about it, Karma hits Snakes-Eyes pretty hard also...)
P.S. Transaction Rollback could be some fun in the archetype

I know this doesn't exactly count because the cards were made before Dark Magician found out what it wanted to be, a fusion focused control deck, but there are SO many good cards that just aren't searchable because they don't explicitly mention "Dark Magician". Sorcerer Of Dark Magic is a pretty cool card with a nice effect but it's essentially a 4th,5th or 6th copy of Dark Magician as it bricks just as hard and isn't searchable. I'm especially mad about Eye Of Timaeus because it's so close to being everything the archetype needs but it mentions a "Dark Magician" *monster* not Dark Magician himself and thus, isn't searchable. There are only *three* Dark Magician monsters; DMOC doesn't have a fusion, Dark Magician Girl the Dragon Knight sucks ass and Amulet is just as bad. The only targets worth making are Dark Paladin, Dark Magician The Dragon Knight and, ofcourse, Red-eyes Dark Dragoon. You could change the card to work on Dark Magician and only Dark Magician without losing anything of value.

I'm sure this was mentioned somewhere in the twitter thread but shoutout to the Fur Hire field spell. Skipping your draw phase to just add a Fur Hire monster and also being able to just nuke the board if you have five or more fur hire monsters which in theory is extremely easy, but there's so much wrong with the card. You have to send the field spell to the graveyard to clear the board, clearing the board stops your opponent from taking battle damage, and on top of that you have to DRAW THE FIELD SPELL cause the field spell does not have "fur hire" in it's name. Fandora, Fur Hire Flying Furtress is too long but we can have Training Fur Hire, Fur All Your Training Needs.

In their defense, fiend eagle exist and the lv 3 can be used to make wise strix, overall the archetype is well synergistic so I can think of 3 cards that at most inconvenient and almost anti-synergy for RR.
      1. Necro vulture: it stops you from xyz summoning that doesn't use rank up magic. So you better use this the very last if you even gonna use it because typical blowing up/using arsenal falcon as material to summon ultimate falcon play won't work if you already used necro vulture beforehand.
      2. Wild Vulture, how do you even special summon this when all of RR effects special summon lv 4 or lower?
      3. Raptor's gust, this card is actually so useful in RR deck because it covers the thing RR desperately needs, spell/trap negation, not quite infernity barrier level but RR already has abudant monster negation if you combine it with PK to make 3 mats Requiem Dragon and usual cyber dragon infinity play with soul shave force. So what's the problem? This card is unsearchable for whatever reason because it doesn't have raidraptor on its name. • @Anthintendo
    @Anthintendo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

I’m a bit of a Nordic apologist. I won’t for a second try to convince anyone that the deck is GOOD, but it is FUN. Something I realized while labbing the deck is that Tyr, Fenrir, and Jormungardr along with Lights form the backbone of an alternate win condition.
Again, it’s NOT good, but it exists: During your Main Phase 2, while you control any Aesir synchro, you can Special Summon Fenrir and Jormungardr to your opponent’s field.
How these two work is: They both die without an Aesir on the field. Fenrir, at the start of the Battle Phase, forces all of its controller’s monsters in Defense position to change to Attack Position, AND both players take battle damage from battles involving it. Jormungardr, if it’s changed from face-up Defense position to Attack position, burns its controller for 3000.
So here’s where the Tyr and Lights combo comes in. Tyr can protect other Nordics from being attacked, and dies if there aren’t any other Nordic monsters on the field. This isn’t a problem if your opponent controls Fenrir or Jormungardr, since THEY are named Nordics. The other part of this is Lights, which prevents Nordic on the field from being destroyed by battle.
So what you do, and not all at once but over a few turns, is: Make your own Aesir Synchro monster and lower your opponent’s LP as much as you can. Then, summon Fenrir (in Attack position) or Fenrir and Jormungardr (in Defense position) to your opponent’s field. If your opponent turns Jormungardr to Attack during their Main Phase or they enter their Battle Phase while they still control Fenrir, they’ll get burned for 3000, and any battle damage they inflict with Fenrir will be dealt back to them.
If they wise up, but don’t have a way to get rid of those two (much easier today than it was back when these cards were released, I know), then you can summon Tyr (or any Nordic) and attack into Fenrir yourself to reverse-OTK your opponent. Under Lights, all Nordics can’t be destroyed by battle, so if it is Tyr, you have an invincible wall that’s inflicting 2000 damage to both players every turn.
Would you play this “combo” in a normal Nordic deck? No, absolutely not. But you could play a deck specifically designed to make this “reverse OTK” work, if you wanted to.
So yeah, Lights ISN’T “Nordic” support: it’s “Tyr-Fenrir-Jormungardr-reverse OTK” support.

I have to disagree with the take on Air Neos. The Neos fusions aren't straight upgrades from the Neo-Spacians. They just tackle the same problems in a different way. You're not supposed to use both cards' effects simultaneously because they are designed to expect that you no longer have the Neo-Spacian in the field by the time you get the Neos fusion out.
If your LP is low, Air Hummingbird says that you should heal up but Air Neos just straight up turns your disadvantage into an advantage.
You can also see this in Dark Panther and Dark Neos. How do you deal with your opponent's effect monsters? Dark Panther copies their effects but Dark Neos just straight up negates them.
Aqua Dolphin gives you information at the cost of not guaranteeing to destroy a card from your opponent's hand. Aqua Neos guarantees the destruction at the cost of information.
Glow Moss gives your opponent a card but their monster gets a random effect that could be bad. Glow Neos gives you a destruction effect but it's Glow Neos that gets the potentially bad effect.
Grand Mole bounces a monster during the damage step. Grand Neos bounces a monster during the main phase. There are pros and cons to either.
The only exception is Flare Scarab, where Flare Neos is just a straight up upgrade of it. I personally think Flare Neos is the odd one out but others could argue that all Neos fusions should have been like Flare Neos where it's just a strictly better upgrade to the Neo-Spacians.

Metaphys executioner sort of fits the bill here. Its summoning condition is banishing 5 metaphys cards from your field or *GRAVEYARD* with different names. Which is counter intuitive to how the deck wants to be played, under Marco. So in the best case scenario you can't even summon their boss monster without going -5. Although the deck will recoup most of this with some of their banished effects.

Given the occasion I want to quickly shout out EN - Engage Neo Space for the Neo-Spacian/HERO hybrid deck Konami wants to be played now. It’s a card which locks you into Fusions and forces, that’s right, forces you to search Polymerization in a deck that a.) has its best searcher for Neo-Spacians be a Link monster in Infernal Devicer, and b.) has none of its Neo-Spacian fusions summonable by Polymerization. Not to mention they printed Favorite Contact, a search for Spirit of Neos aka Engage’s number 1 fan, in the same set, which while absolutely fantastic cards, encourage you to summon Cosmo Neos on the opponent’s turn, which you can rarely do without going into Infernal Devicer. And the worst part is they didn’t even feel the need to give us a good fusion monster that’s summonable with Neo-Spacians and Elementals to, idk, make the Poly search matter, and instead leave us with Brave Neos which is a searcher, but only if it destroys a monster by battle.
The POTE support is just a confused bunch of cards design wise that could’ve been hype for finally bridging together the Neo-Spacians and HEROs that Jaden used, and while it does technically do that, they didn’t need to put so many restrictions on cards for a deck as bad as Neo-Spacians

Not to mention its one of the few ghostricks level 2s you had at the time if you wanted to summon socuteboss. The photon sanctuary card you mention was used by the regular Galaxy user in the show who only used Light monsters. And let's also give it an effect that allows you to banish 2 monsters from the GY to add it back to the hand, and then what, chances are if its in the GY you've already used it to summon to the stupid Fusion monster, so what else can you use it for and there are better banishment cards in Beetrooper's."

The power booster Gravekeepers don't work on it, and apparently you can't use "Rite of Spirit" to bring him back when he's destroyed. The only way to beef him up while "Necrovalley" is on the field is through "Necrovalley" itself. When "Necrovalley" isn't on the field you can use whatever cards you want to beef him up and revive him, though I recently got "Gravekeeper's Priestess," who acts as "Necrovalley" on the field, and I have no idea what happens to "Heretic" when they're played together.

I mean, Vanisher is obviously made to be summoned from the deck with Counter and has a way of special summoning himself if you draw him, it is a pretty convoluted way of getting a monster with an okay effect on the field, but it's very obvious intentional design, they just made it way more fair than it needed to be.
The one I posted (after the stream had ended, of course) is Shiranui Smith, the only card that can search "Shiranui" cards (not that many of them are any good, but if Swallowslash was more easily searchable Shiranui would actually have options going first), it only searches when sent to the GY as Synchro material, but since it doesn't special summon itself you have to get it on the field by jumping through a number of hoops:
    Using only Shiranui cards:
    - If you draw or dump it into the graveyard you can special summon it with Spiritmaster in which case it doesn't go to the GY, so it doesn't search and you would have to jump through even more hoops to get a tuner on the field in the first place.
    - You can use A Girl's Tale to get it from the deck, but for that the opponent has to have a monster on the field, meaning you have to be going second, in which case the whole point of searching traps is completely lost.
Using generic zombie support you still have multiple hoops to jump through when you can accomplish a lot more by just setting up Balerdroch (yeah, I know, the release timing is off, but the point still stands), meaning the only feasible way of using this card while not completely running out of steam is by drawing it, a way of getting tuners on the field (realistically that would be a Squire or Solitaire, which takes the normal summon) and a way to get Gozuki + a card you can get advantage from banishing (Squire, Shinobi Necro or Solitaire if you have a banished Shiranui already i.e. more hoops) into the graveyard, I'm pretty sure best case scenario that's still a -1 just to search 1 (one) card. Shiranui in general has a lot of unneeded clunkiness that seems like they were just making shit without thinking how it works together, the best starters only have effects when normal summoned, so you have to decide very carefully which one to use, they have the most cards that zombie lock out of any of the zombie archetypes, the synchros all have "Can only be special summoned once per turn" when they're not even good and don't have quick effects (except Samuraisaga, switch cards to def if they have less atk than a card you shuffled from the banish zone, non-targeting tho LMAO and Skillsaga, I've played Shiranui more than any other deck and I haven't resolved Skillsaga's quick effect once, not that it accomplishes anything), the traps and spells seem like they meant for the archetype to be a stall value deck, but at the same time, why the fuck do they have 0 defense and a bunch of atk boosting effects then?
TL;DR: Most of the Shiranui cards have no coherent design, Smith is just extremely egregious because it does the same as most archetypes starters, but you need to set it up with a handful of other cards first.

    I got one.
Looking at their main deck monsters shows that “ice barriers” was clearly meant to be a synchro control strategy, where you put multiple names on board to stun with your small guys and out value with their big guys from the main deck and extra deck.
Their best swarming tool, “Prior of the Ice Barrier” is a lvl 2 water Aqua that specials himself if you have another name and can tribute himself to revive another “Ice Barrier”. Makes sense.
Swarm for synchro plays and revive something large for value, like Gantala, a lvl 7 with 2700 atk that revives something during the end phase. Solid for its time and would make for a strong resource loop with Prior. Get Gantala to GY, revive with Prior, revive Prior with Gantala, repeat until you win.
That is until you reread Prior and realize that this swarming tool for a synchro control deck, locks you out of lvl 5+ monsters if you use his special summon effect. This includes his own revival effect AND every Ice Barrier synchro.
    What?

Flamvell magician was played a lot in flamvell decks. Because it was a level 4 tuner. It's effect to boost ally of justice monsters can be used on the occasional catastor played in the same deck.

    oh boy here we go
    -the timelord synchro
-the windwitch fusion that u summon by being evil in arc-v since the deck focuses on synchros whose effect really only is used in cyberstein ftk
-Shoutout to star GT by becoming the absolute biggest powerhouse of the F.A. archetype and with a negation, but cant deal damage
-The non effect metalfoes fusion monsters whose only real purpouse is being a bad super poly target
-red wyvern by being fire cant be summoned under most of the resonator deck since most good effects locks you onto DARK dragons
-Raidraptor wild vulture by special summoning 2 raidraptor monsters! whose total level equal 6... on a mostly rank 4 and higher deck... and vulture himself is a level6...
    -wattkey and wattcastle by existing
and i cant come up with more

Shout outs to Red-Eyes Archfiend of Lightning.
Archfiend of Lighting is supposed to be used to fusion summon Archfiend Black Skull Dragon but for some reason Black Skull specifically states it needs a Archfiend Normal monster and Gemini's don't count as normal monsters in the deck.
so the only way you can summon Black Skull Dragon with Red-Eyes Fusion is to use Vanilla Summon Skull.

The F.A. link gains counters that can be used on a HOPT monster negate when F.A. spell/traps are activated, when most of the F.A. spell/traps you'd use after getting it on board require changing the battle position of and level modulating an F.A. you control, and gains the attack equal to the levels of F.A.s it is pointed to, when the archetype has a hard enough time getting bodies on board on its own that would likely be wasted on the link instead of going into their synchros.

Verte Anaconda is a wierd one. It can make any fusion, but the best way of bringing it out in a Predaplant deck is with Orphys Scorpio, which can summon Cobra to search...any fusion. Literally only useful in every other archetype but its own.

Shoutout to 'Centrefrog'. A frog that cannot be used to xyz summon is about as useful as a chocolate teapot. Not to mention the weird ojama shit where it can lock out opponent monster zones (?). I just have no idea why it exists, and that sucks, because it's a really cool looking frog

crash a lv4 level resist wall summon 2 centerfrog then mp2 snatch steal your opponents entire board

Shoutouts to Guardian Eatos, who does not have anti-synergy with Guardians because they were never meant to synergize with themselves, but there is no synergy with her equip spell Celestial Sword - Eatos.
Eatos can send a equip spell that was equipped to her to banish up to 3 monsters to on grave to gain Atk. Celestial Sword has the effect that, when it is send to grave, it gives the monster that was equipped to it more Atk for each banish monster.
The catch? The effect of the spell is a "When" and not "If"
Which means that Eatos cannot send her Sword to gain more atk by her effect and her Sword's effect because the sword will miss the timing.
The one time Guardians get a decent monster that can actually use the specific equip spell just to not synergize at all, despite that it should. Gotta love game mechanics.

Other than the usual main deck hieratics that saw competitive play (ie Su, Eset, Nebthet, Tefnuit) the others have basically non consistent effect with eachother. The funniest is the Gemini one, that cannot be brought to the field from the deck by tributing a hieratic monster, since it's a gemini. But at least it has a bad effect when it's normal summoned, that also doesn't synergise with the rest of the deck.

Don’t forget Asar. You summon it by banishing a Light Dragon and a normal Dragon from your graveyard. You know, the normal Dragons that you DON’T WANT TO BANISH because that takes them out of circulation?

The gemini monster was actually the payoff of an ftk since it counts as a normal monster in the graveyard, it creates a loop while raptinus is on the field.

I think a huge one that MBT missed being a hero player, is cross keeper.
The little bugger let’s you extend hero plays through hand traps or if they stop your normal summon, and gets you more cards if you fusion summon (which the deck spams out like no one’s business)
AND YET HE DOES NOT HAVE “HERO” IN HIS NAME SO HE CAN’T BE SEARCHED BY OTHER “HERO” EFFECTS!!!!!!!!!!!

Spygal is a bad example. Shes the perlereino of spyrals: their unreachable power card (or at least she was before links came out. Double helix requires 2 spyrals, so... yknow.)
