Louis and Armand are giving those performative Instagram couple/Family Vlogger vibes, it's all shiny and cute when the cameras are rolling but behind closed doors there is no spark.

The way it feels like Daniel is both Louis’ opp and only person willing to brutally honest with him?? Wild.

What’s interesting about the box of photos is that Claudia’s photo is actually on top but Daniel doesn’t ask about who the young girl is. He goes straight to asking about the young men. Daniel we know what you are!

No you're so right about how Daniel feels like the oldest even next to louis and armand.
The whole scene really did feel like elder abuse 😂😂😂

Its impossible to pick a favourite moment in this episode but as a Claudia stan first and human second her pure effervescent joy at descoving true vampire pride just lit me up inside. I'm so grateful the writing team decided to change Claudia's relationship with the Theatre de Vampires because it makes how the story will unfold ultimately more heartbreaking.

You know I was wondering where the groan™ of their building was in episode 2. I’m glad we get to see Armand in love and being somewhat vulnerable with both Louis and Daniel. I think Armand’s emotions directly influence the space around him like we saw with the streetlights in the park where he and Louis met.
P.S I’m so glad we have these spaces to talk about this show. Hearing so many different insights how brilliant the production is from the sets to how effective this cast is so fun.

Me too, those little moments we see Armand being vulnerable are a little heartbreaking. You can tell that he's a character who's uses to keeping everything in order and reserved, but whenever he smiles at Louis or gives him those little side looks (like when he said "I've never hurt him") makes my heart squeeze.
The facial acting in this show is top notch. And Daniel being sick of it all😭

I was watching it via the AMC app on my smart TV and it’s during the Armand Louis bedroom scene, and I heard it so obviously. It was even in the captions (squeaking etc). Once you hear it- you can’t unhear it!

the "gauche" comment was about claudia's desire for luxury and louis' comment about the heavens opening up and raining down mink stoles for claudia.

I'm not sure why this has only hit me now regarding the raw deal that Claudia got through the books and the screen adaptations....but do we all remember that Claudia isn't even her real name??😢😢
To show how little her own identity matters to someone as "empathetic" as Louis. He still clings to this idea of her being a replacement for Grace (likely a replacement for Paul in the books, maybe) that he makes assumptions of what she felt and thought, without ever truly listening to her.
Then he reads her true thoughts about him in her diaries and it hurts him, but he continues to try to push past it as though she was only being grumpy when she wrote that.

    • @cyanrose499
      @cyanrose499 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@Shayiamiam At all!! Like of course we're going to feel sorry for his side of the story but when you look at how great he is at deluding himself and how he brushes over the pain he causes towards others, his character starts appear as borderline narcissistic.
He believes that he is the most tolerating and understanding person, yet it's usually those around him who have to bend their own core values and personal goals in order to coddle him.

A great recap and review! I didn't notice the ***i salute thing until you pointed it out, and it also gave me pause, but I guess you can't do WWII stuff without doing WWII stuff. Glad to hear that's where they're going with it.
Something that really stuck out to me this ep was how avoidant Louis is when it comes to confronting the difficulty of Claudia's life, even in Paris. The way JA delivers, "She's managing through it," (the micro changes in his expression, the slight head shake, his tone, ACTING baby) is so defensive. Sure, they just met these vampires, they gotta have their guard up, but it also made me wonder: does he ever talk to her about this? Can she talk to him about this? Is he capable of hearing it without centering his own guilt? If not, how can he empathise with her? What kind of support can be produced from this? How can she be seen??
*sigh* Forever and always feeling bad for Claudia

It's so hard watching Louis' interpretation of his relationship with Claudia. Just as it seems that he does have awareness of how she felt, he quickly dismisses it as "she was fine" "we were on the mend in our relationship"...like my guy!!!
He cannot see her outside of himself and you see how much it hurts him when he reads her true thoughts about him in her diaries. He's so convinced that she was only a little uncomfortable or grumpy, but the girl literally started hating you from back in New Orleans when she came to realise that for both Louis and Lestat, Claudia is a tool to fill the relationship that Louis lost with his real sister 😢

I think I can give some clarity to what you may have been feeling about the letter Lestat left.
Mild book spoiler: In the first season Lestat clashed a lot with Louis and Claudia for withholding information and it’s mostly seen as him being controlling but there’s also a book explanation as to why he does it.
Prior to arriving in America and after leaving Paris and his ex Nicholas with Armand he traveled the world looking for Ancient Vampires and specifically Armand’s maker.
Let’s just say they have an encounter and some real shit goes down and Lestat is basically sent away and warned not to share with anyone what he’s learned or he and his love ones will be destroyed.
The letter is most likely speaking to that which is why he ask Louis not to seek revenge on whoever may have wronged him.
Lestat has no fear of the Coven or Armand because mostly all of them love him so he wouldn’t be concerned about them finding him in New Orleans.
